Johana Leonie was so happy. She had a friend! So of course she was happy. But her friend had sad little shoulders sometimes, and Johana Leonie thought that Germany was the best place to get rid of sad shoulders. After confirming that it was alright with her parents, and keeping their concerns in the back of her mind to acknowledge when the time was right, since Heinrich would definitely voice them at some point, Johana Leonie made her way to where Hilda was sitting in Cascade Hall.
"I have an idea and I want to know what you think," she told her friend, smiling as she took a seat beside her for dinner. "When you like to visit while the summer? Do you want to come see me? You and Heinrich can both come; my parents said it was okay. You could stay for a week or two or three! It is great!"
Dinner was a favorite meal of Johana Leonie's, although she liked breakfast and lunch and things just as well, so really all of her meals were her favorite. However, dinner was the end of the day, which meant that she had survived another day in an English speaking institution. With Hilda so close by, it also meant she didn't need to keep up trying to use English so much as she did in their classes together, although they weren't just using English there either. Zara was nice and good company, but had her own friends, and Johana Leonie hadn't ever pushed their friendship to bloom too much. She thought she should rectify that, and hoped it would be easier after a summer studying English and relaxing.
"What do you think, my friend?"

Hilda looked up from her potatoes and saw Johana Leonie coming towards her. The transformation that occurred at this recognition was as remarkable as anything that happened in the Transfiguration classroom.
Shoulders that were normally pulled tight or squared off relaxed and loosened. Tension lines around her eyes eased and were replaced with a warm welcoming smile that lit up her entire face. The general air of mild menace that often hung around her dispersed completely. In mere moments, she changed from a sullen preteen to a happy eleven year old.
“Johana Leonie!” she exclaimed in greeting. “Sit!” she invited, abandoning the use of English in favor of German as she always did in the company of another native speaker. “Welcome!” She hadn’t seen Johana Leonie at Teppenpaw when she’d arrived and had already resigned herself to a dinner among the English speakers. This was a most welcome change of plans.
Like Heinrich did, Johana Leonie interspersed some English among her words, and Hilda reluctantly did her best to try to understand it, though she quietly resented the necessity. At least her brother and Johana Leonie usually said the English words in the way she expected them to sound rather than the way they were supposed to sound when spoken by native users.
Her resentment vanished as quickly as her sullen mood had, though, as she grasped what it was Johana Leonie was proposing (which was made easier by the bulk of it being asked in German).
“Yes!” she said with absolute conviction. “I’d love to come visit you in Germany this summer! I miss it so much! And I’d miss you so much! Summer is much too long to go without seeing you!” Heinrich and Hans were good brothers, but neither one was really someone she’d pick as a friend and now that she had one again, the summer had been looming large and long and more than a little bit lonely. But this visit would go a long way in fixing that.
Johana Leonie made a sound somewhere between a squeak and a chirp, wrapping her arms around her friend in an excited hug when the Pecari agreed that she'd like to come to Germany over the summer.
"I'm so glad to hear that! I was worried you'd be glad for a break instead. My family always keeps us busy over the summer, so it will be lots of fun to have a friend there! It will be so nice to spend time with you and you can meet my momma and papa and Friederike Albert. He'll be here next year, and he'll be so excited to meet you."
She sat back, happily bouncing up and down as she reached for some food. She was satisfied now that she was going to have a great summer and she was glad that breakfast was going to be so much better now that it was so full of happiness too. Looking at her friend with big, happy eyes, Johana Leonie grinned.
"You like Sauerbraten und Spätzle?" Johana Leonie asked, mixing her languages to emphasize the fact that they were going to enjoy some of the best of German homecooked foods. "I can't even tell you how happy I am!"
She'd been thinking a lot about all the things there were to do at home over the summer and they had begun to sound more stressful as they got closer. Normally, Johana Leonie would be excited for the food, the weather, the time outside, the healing practice, and everything else that came with being part of the Zauberhexen family. At the same time, it would be a little bit exhausting to pretend not to be magical again, as most of the local people were non-magical. Beyond that, she would be undoubtedly picking up her regular responsibilities on top of any summer studying and English practice.
"Everything is going to be perfect," Johana Leonie smiled.
