Trying not to burn the place down. by Demetra Mason

Demetra was sitting somewhere in the middle of the Labyrinth, hovering over a sheet of parchment. The instructions were clear, if only she could get the wand movement right. She was planning to use it for Christmas holidays for her brother or mother.

If she mastered it, she decided she would either use it was revenge on Jacob for charming her socks to run away from her, or to surprise her mother on Christmas morning. It was complex, and far above her level, but she was determined to figure it out. Muttering the incantation to herself, she waved her wand in the general direction of the palm sized stone on the ground. Instead, she ended up hitting one of the statues.

If she had performed the spell correctly, it would have walked over to her and waited to be ordered what to do. The charm would only last three hours, and would only follow one order. You had to be careful, like asking a genie for three wishes. The last thing she wanted was to give it the wrong instructions or have her words twisted around.

Unfortunately, Demetra hadn't figured it out quite yet. The small dragon figure sprang to life, and immediately began to spew fire every where. Plants caught fire, and the edge of her robes began to burn. the first year let how a short stream of swear words that she had learned from her brothers as she jumped to her feet. Trying not to panic, she waved her wand helplessly, shouting what she thought would put an end to it. She snatched at the parchment that lay on the stone bench, attempting to keep it away from the flames.

Please don't! by Valentina Bentancourt

Valentina was super happy, midterm was around the corner and she would be able to go home. The second-year Teppenpaw was excited to see her family once again, it was really hard being away from them, but it was a necessity. The Spaniard was looking forward to spend time with Alex’s betrothed, Emmy was nice, and she liked her. It would be weird since Emmy’s whole family would be there to celebrate Christmas. First time her grandparents met them. The other thing that had her super excited was her improved ballet technique and how she was going to surprise Madam Abramova, and her Ballet teacher would be proud of her improvement. Maybe she would cast her for the summer recital! Valentina was grateful that MARS had been opened, it was awesome and it was doing wonders for her dancing.

In a day like today, she decided to take a break from school and dancing, and just relaxing walking through the Labyrinth Gardens. She was at that stage where she was just reviewing what they had been seeing in class. It was not a pressing matter and she was glad for it, she needed to rest from her hectic school life. The blue-eyed Teppenpaw could not wait for Midterm to come, the only thing she really wanted was to go to Madrid with her family, and relax away from the school. She loved Sonora and loved being here, but a change every few months was nice and welcomed.

Anyways, in her wanderings through the beautiful gardens, she heard someone scream a string of not very nice words. She had never heard them before (but she was sure they were curse words), the males in her family never talked like that in front of the ladies. Curiosity won over any other feeling and she walked towards the noise. Her pace quickened once she smelled something burning.

Valentina stopped when she saw a girl and things burning around her. What in the name of Merlin?! She got out her wand and began extinguishing the flames on her robes, and after that was done, in the plants. “Dear Merlin! Are you alright?” she asked in her accented English. Her father was always ranting about how she hadn’t learned to speak proper English, but why should she? When she had lived in Spain most of her life and she did not have the need. She was getting better, now that she lived in the States.

Finally, a Hero! by Demetra

Demetra was frightened, even as the unfamiliar girl extinguished the flames. The girl asked her if she was alright, but Dem could hardly answer. She was shaking, looking her robes over for flames again. "The-the dragon," she held in the sobs as she spoke, her hand quivering and pointing to the statute. He wasn't very big, hardly even reaching her knee, but he was still spitting flames. They weren't as long or constant, though, just enough to keep the new arrival working.

"I-I didn't mean to!" She exclaimed, "I j-just w-wanted to practice so I could do it for my m-mom!" Demetra didn't like crying, especially not in front of people, but she couldn't hold it in. "It just happened! I wasn't even aiming for the dragon!" She fell back on to the stone bench, hysterical sobs washing over her. "I-I tried to-to make it stop, but I-I couldn't!"

She looked down at the parchment, finding the incantation that would remove the charm. She pointed her shaking wand at the dragon, but only managed to stop its romping around.

*strikes a Hero pose* by Valentina

Valentina was aware that girl would be traumatized to have her robes in flames, it was only natural, that was why when the girl explained what had happened between sobs, she just reached out to her and soothingly patted her back. The Teppenpaw thought it would be the best approach to help the younger girl. The Spaniard didn’t like seeing people upset. She was always soothing Alex after he got upset with their father, and that was a common occurrence every single time they had seen him after he moved them to the United States. Alex was always grumbling about how unfair life was to them and not the other the children. The blue-eyed Spaniard didn’t know what he meant by other children, and she was not that curious to know. It sounded upsetting, and being upset was not in her priority list.

The statue was still causing havoc. Valentina just laughed a bit before gently getting the piece of parchment from the other girl and scheming through it to find the incantation that would return the statue to its previous unmoving state. After a few practices, she pointed her wand to the statue and said the incantation. The dragon remained still. YES! Valentina send some jets of water to the remaining burning stuff. “There everything is as it should be.” The second-year patted her once again and sat down next to her. “Are you sure you are alright? I could go with you to the Medic. You should check yourself,” she nodded seriously.

“I am Valentina Bentancourt,” she introduced herself like her mother had taught her. Emiliana always said that it didn’t matter that their family wasn’t important anymore in the Pureblood circles, that it was still necessary to be polite to other people, especially because her grandparents were working in making them relevant once again. Alex’s betrothal to the Davises had been the first step in that direction. “I am a second-year Teppenpaw,” she finished.

“It is nice of you to try and surprise your mother with that, but you should be careful.” She didn’t want to admonish the younger girl, but it was necessary. One shouldn’t attempt an incantation like that unsupervised, it was dangerous.
