Charlie had promised to catch Dmitry up on the three years he missed at Sonora (or, the very little he hadn't already learned at Durmstrang, anyway) and she hadn't yet kept her promise. So after classes that day, before dinner and while it was still sunny and warm outside, Charlie managed to catch the new kid as he was passing through the commons. "Hey," Charlie flashed as smile at him. "Meet me in the gardens in five minutes?" Not hearing any argument, Charlie continued out to the gardens. She was wearing blue jeggings and a red and black horizontal-striped top with lipstick prints on its front. Her hair was in braided pigtails, and her feet were cased in borwn sandals with a modest heel.
Having thrown the syllabi for the past couple of years for each of her classes into a brown shoulder bag, along with her wand and cherry flavored lipgloss, Charlotte set about finding a good spot to get to know Dmitry. She didn't go to far into the labyrinth because he might not find her (and what a waste of time that would be), so the Crotalus found a spot just around the first turn, and a bench that still had some sunlight over the top of the maze's hedges.
Charlotte had time to pull the syllabi out of her bag and organise them into some sort of coherent order before Dmitry rounded the corner and strode into her vision. "Hey," she greeted him with a friendly smile.

Dmitry was not one to seek the attentions of another student so he waited for Charlie to approach him about their study session. Today though he was just happy classes were for now and he could go relax, he was just headed to his dorm when Charlie approached him with a smile on her face. "Hey, meet me in the gardens in five minutes?" She asked but moved on before he could answer her. Normally this would annoy Dmitry to no end but the self-confident Charlie intrigued the young Russian through.
So he went to his dorm, changed from his robes into a pair of black jeans and a black dress shirt tucked in, around his next her wore a red tie with the Talsky Crest embossed upon it. He checked to make sure his black hair was brushed neatly to the side, the one thing that Dmitry took pride in his highly groomed appeared, no pureblood should go out in public looking like a half-blood, or forbid a dirty mudblood. Finally, he left his dorm and made his way down the Gardens.
He had yet to really explore the Gardens and he had no urge to either, thankfully Charlie had the sense to not go to far in. He smiled at her when she greeted her. “Hello.” He said in his thick accent. “How are you today?” He asked as he sat down next to her.
Dmitry looked entirely presentable, as always. He obviously took pride in his appearance; something he shared in common with Daniel (though both took a fairly different approach). Charlie liked to look nice, too, but she liked to strike a balance between looking nice and being vain - appearances weren't everything. She certainly didn't put as much effort into looking nice as either Dmitry or Daniel on a daily basis, but maybe that's because she was just naturally pretty... right?
"I'm pretty chirpy," Charlie replied to Dmitry's enquiry into her well-being. "My day is continuing to improve," she added. "How are you?" It was always polite to ask, but Charlie was usually genuine in such queries; if a person wasn't feeling good she'd want to do her bit to make them feel better. Obviously.
"So," Charlie said, glancing at the syllabi. "You want to have a look through these and tell me if there's anything unfamiliar in there?" she passed the papers over to Dmitry. "I mean, you seem to be doing okay in classes so far. Not that I've been watching you or anything," she added mischeivously, her tone indiciating entirely the opposite was true.
"Or you could tell me a bit more about yourself," Charlotte suggested, just in case Dmitry wasn't in the mood to do any more studying after a full day of classes - she hadn't really asked him opinion on that either way. "You know, your hopes, dreams, secret desires - that sort of thing." She was already having fun.
When Charlie answered his greeting, he could not help but smirk at her answer. Chirpy was something none of the girls at Durmstrang would say and it was a bit refreshing to meet a girl who would use it. He didn’t know how to answer the same question so he settled on. “I am well.” He answered with a small nod. “Thank you for asking.” He paused as he looked over at Charlie. He was used to girls who only spoke to him because of his last name and he was glad that the Talsky name wasn’t a well known name in America, yet.
While Charlie spoke, Dmitry looked over the syllabi, once again smirking at her tone implying she had been watching him. It was nice to be admired by a pretty girl like Charlie, especially one who liked Quidditch. After looking over the list for a few moments, he looked at Charlie. “I’ve covered all these and more.” He said matter-of-factly. He wasn’t trying to show off Durmstrang had a more grueling schedule and expected so much more from their students then Sonora did.
He chuckled when she said that he could talk about his hopes, dream, and secret desires. He would never share his inner thoughts with the girl who sat across from him, he was a Talsky and they weren’t the touchy feely type. “What would you like to know?” He asked in his accented English. He ran a hand through his hair and arched an eyebrow.
"I've covered all these and more," Dmitry said. Charlotte wasn't really surprised, considering all she'd heard about the other school. She thought she might feel intimidated by someone like Dmitry, and was surprised to find that wasn't the case. Charlie wasn't a genius, by any measure, but she was smart enough to get by. She'd always thought that being friendly and helpful were qualities that should be equally respected as intelligence. Having said that, she did generally seem to be drawn to smart boys. Daniel, James and Dmitry were all at the top end of their classes.
"We'd better not waste any time with those, then," charlie replied, accepting the syllabi back and returning them, discarded, to her bag. Good, now the boring part was over they could find out a little more about each other.
"What would you like to know?" Dmitry answered her question with another. Charlie smiled again as she answered.
"Honestly, I'd mostly like to know if you currently have a girlfriend. The rest of what I want to know probably depends on how you answer that first part." Being forward had never been a problem for Charlotte. Life was just too short to wait around and let it find you - it was much better to go out looking for the good times. The very worst that could happen was that Dmitry would be offended, tell her she was trash, and not speak to her again. That would be sad, but Charlie wouldn't have lost anything, and neither would she waste her time on him for the next few weeks getting to know him if he wasn't interested in getting to know her. On the other hand, he might think it was fiesty - as many boys had done before - and they would have laughs a plenty and much more besides.
Dmitry smiled when Charlie simply stuck the papers back into her back; she seemed almost relived that they didn’t have to study. He wasn’t in the mood to study anyways and he was pretty sure Charlie wasn’t either. If she had been in the mood to study he was sure she would have gone to the library. She was crafty and that made the Russian smile. After asking what she wanted to know he was surprised by her answer. "Honestly, I'd mostly like to know if you currently have a girlfriend. The rest of what I want to know probably depends on how you answer that first part." Well at least she was honest, Dmitry thought.
He thought for a moment, technically him and Mishka had dated last year, and had even talked about continuing their relationship once school resumed. Yet he had been pulled from his school and had not spoken to Mishka since. “No, I’m single.” He said with a smile. He wondered what else she was going to want to know. He had a feeling where it was all going but found it pretty entertaining, wasn’t it his job to ask all this? Not that he minded her doing all the work it made it all the easier for him. Mishka had made him peruse her and he had hated the chase. “Do you have a boyfriend?” He asked trying to make it seem like he did not know she was single.
Dmitry declared he was single, and he accompanied his declaration with a smile that made Charlotte's stomach do a little somersault. He hadn't objected to her being forward, and he wasn't outright rejecting her. This looked good so far, and she perceived it could only improve when she asked if she had a boyfriend.
"Not at the moment," Charlotte replied coyly, "but I'm anticipating that will change within the next few minutes." Her smile reached her brown eyes as she looked up at Dmitry. She didn't ask boys out - she would give hints and suggestions and even propose dates, but she never made the final step that would be the actual asking. That was the difference between being forward and being desperate. If a guy didn't like her enough to ask her, even with all her encouragements, he probably wasn't interested. Either than or he was painfully shy, and Charlotte knew she didn't tend to get on well with that sort of person. A little shy she could deal with, but there were limits.
It had been a while since Charlie'd had a real boyfriend, anyway. She still wasn't sure if Daniel counted - they'd never really defined their relationship until it (whatever it was) was over, and she had been on a date with James for sure, but she'd never been his girlfriend. That would make her last boyfriend pre-Sonora, and considering she was in fourth year now, Charlie considered that a very definite gap. If Dmitry would have her it would be particularly convenient, as they could spend time together in the commons after classes. She didn't know him all that well, so they still had loads to talk about, but Charlie had seen enough to know she liked him. Plus he had that dark and mysterious demeanour that she was powerless to resist.
"Not at the moment, but I'm anticipating that will change within the next few minutes." Charlie said with a smile. She was forward enough to suggest that he ask her but not forward to ask him herself. She was a smart one to say the least; she knew when to push and when to back off. This was the type of girl he needed. Not only did he enjoy her company but his parents would approve of her. He leaned forward as he thought about it making her wait, hoping to see her squirm. He liked seeing girls fidget uncomfortably; did that make him cruel? He really didn’t care if it did finally he leaned back and smiled again.
“Miss Abbot.” He began as he grabbed her hand gently and smiled. “Will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?” He didn’t blush like some boys his age would that would be weak. He didn’t whip out candy and flowers from out of thin air that would be corny. He had done it like all respectable purebloods would address the girl in a formal way, and asking for the honor her presence as a girlfriend.
His father would be proud of him, at least in Dmitry’s mind. If Charlie accepted and he was sure she would he would give her a charm for a necklace or bracelet with the Talsky Crest on it. He wasn’t sure if that was something American purebloods did but in Russia it was the only way to proclaim someone as your girlfriend and he intended to keep his traditions, even if he was in America.
Dmitry kept quiet for a moment, apparently deciding his response. Charlotte struggled not to laugh; she was fairly sure he was teasing her, and that affirmed her belief that this solemn student did have a playful side. Still she wished he'd say something soon; the suspense was maddening!
Finally, Dmitry took Charlie's hand and asked her to be his girlfriend in such a polite manner that she was sure any girl would have been unable to refuse. "I would be delighted," Charlie replied, beaming, and she was being truthful. She was also incredibly excited, and didn't managed to supress the urge to lean in and give Dmitry a brief kiss on the cheek. She'd always been an affectionate person, and she considered that she'd been very restrained in waiting until now to demonstrate this to Dmitry, considering she'd been thinking about kissing him right from when they'd met at the Opening feast.
Mingled with her pleasure and excitemen at that moment was the tiniest hint of concern; she'd never dated a pureblood before, especially not one with an important family like Dmitry had. Luckily midterm would be arriving fairly soon, and Charlotte would have the opportunity to pay her Uncle Raymond a visit and brush up her knowledge - Merlin knew her parents would be useless, isolated as they were from the wizarding society.
