Ok, let's try that one again (stupid enter key)

Avoiding his fellow Crotali meant avoiding their usual haunts. Although, with quite a varied group, that wasn't always easy. Especially when one was attempting to find a Pecari. A Pecari who had the hide to describe himself as 'usually being around'. How was that supposed to help in locating anyone?!
So Geoffrey had found himself in the Labyrinth Gardens, strolling around as quietly as he was able and avoiding others as much as he could. He was there on the basis of rumour. Just as Aladren were rumoured to have more than the obvious connection to the library, similar stories were spread about Pecaris and the Gardens.
Hearing the scuff of someone's feet on the path up ahead, Geoffrey hung back. Was it Stephen? Was it someone else? Did it really matter either way? He'd received the answer to his letter with remarkable - if not surprising - speed. It just wasn't the answer he'd hoped for.
Figuring that it didn't really matter either way any more, he stopped next to a fountain and wondered whether it would be any more pathetic to try to drown himself in it's shallow depths to avoid seeing his mother.\n\n

*waggles finger* The Enter key has feelings too
by Stephen Baxter
Trotting down a path in the Labyrinth Gardens, Stephen wondered when he'd hear from Geoff. He figured the kid would owl him, but there hadn't been one so far, so a stretching of the legs had seemed in order. With some vague idea in mind of visiting the site of the old treehouse he had set out, still keeping an eye on the sky in case an owl would approach.
Which is why he was so surprised to see Geoff ahead of him, looking all hangdog around one of the fountains.
"Nope," Geoffrey replied. He gazed at the water a little longer and then turned. He hoped he didn't look quite as pathetic as he felt. It had been wonderful to have something like visiting the house of a friend to look forward to in these dark times. To have that dashed, and so quickly too... Geoffrey sat down heavily on the side of the basin that surrounded the fountain and put his face in his hands. "I'm sorry," he said, voice muffled.
It was like... like the entire world was against him. His school life teetered on the edge of oblivion, his home life was just waiting for his return to tear shreds off him, and all avenues of escape were being cut off. All he needed was Jennifer to corner him and that would be that.
The end of the world. His world, anyhow.
He just couldn't understand how it had happened. The past two and a half years... things had seemed to be getting better. Where had he gone wrong?
OOC: Quite alright. Get some sleep; I suspect Midterm Approacheth.\n\n
