So much for a peaceful stroll by Mia

Mia strolled through the labyrinth before her. The Labyrinth Gardens was one of her favorite places here at Sonora. She loved coming here to be by herself and think. She's come in here quite a few times since the beginning of term.

Mia walked absent mindedly through the maze with the eraser of a pencil between her teeth as she gazed at the small booklet in her left hand. She held the pencil with her right hand. Mia loved doing fill-in puzzles and her mom had sent her a few books of them to do in her free time.

Mia squealed with delight as another answer came to her. This was one of the harder puzzles so she got really excited when answers came to her. It made her feel smart. Mia laughed at this thought. Her laugh was quickly turned into a shriek as she felt a sharp pain run through her shin.

"Ow! What the flip!?" Mia exclaimed as she dropped her booklet and fell to the ground clutching her leg.

She looked down at the damage and saw a really nasty looking bruise on her shin. Mia winced as she brushed her finger over it and picked herself up. The bruise stung but only a bit after the initial shock was over. She slightly limped over to her fallen book and carried it and her pencil over to the nearest bench to rest a while. It was then that Mia realized the bench was probably what caused the bruise.

Mia shook her head and sat down only to have another realization. This was the same bench Mia sat curled up on as she poured out her soul to... Mia scoweled at the thought of her.

Normally, she wan't one to hold a grudge but she was really annoyed now. She half blamed herself for being so naive and opening herself up to a total stranger but she didn't want to admit she was wrong. She was a bit stubborn that way.

"Stupid traitor!" Mia muttered and lifted her leg to rest on the bench.

Mia quickly went back to her booklet as her mood took a total nose dive after being battered by a bench and then thinking about Elizabeth. She told herself she wasn't going to dwell on it.

It was Elizabeth's decision to turn tail on her "friends" and deem them as unworthy to be around. Now all Mia needed to make her annoyance complete was for Elizabeth to come strolling through the gardens like she owned the place because she's a stuck up pureblood maniac. It would be just her luck if that happened. Mia had the tendancy to be quite the jinx. Well, it was as simple as what Mia's mother told her.

'People suck.' \n\n

Peaceful? What is this you speak of? by Tyranthia Boyd

Ty by no means felt sorry for herself. When one thought on it, there was really nothing to feel sorry about. She had a stable family, the freedom to express herself fully (rare within pureblood families, even the Boyds, but her dad was very encouraging), and was altogether lucky in many sensed; her parents were obviously rather wealthy being Boyds. Thus, the feeling of rather irrational anger when the letter came was slightly a mystery to even herself, though she was an easily annoyed individual herself.

She had been walking through the gardens as usual, her grey squirrel Fiyero had long ago left to explore on his own; her human pace (slower then most as she was searching for photo opportunities) being much too lingering for his taste. That was why she was alone when the letter came.

A screech owl flew down, and with a hoot, landed on a bush nearby, sticking out his leg. She looked at him for a moment, then finally took the letter, recognizing her mother's hand writing. She loved her mother of course, but they didn't have near as close a relationship as Ty and her father. They shared interests, he was a genius painter and could understand her photography mania. Her mother on the other hand prefered to doll up her older sister. This was why Ty was suprised at a letter from her mother. Her parents usually wrote in the same one.

She opened the letter, and as she began to read the contents, forgot entirely about the owl. She started to wander down the path. When she came to the end of the letter, she stared at the signature it as if it had offended her in some way. 'Randolf's getting engaged?!?!' were the only thoughts that seemed to echo in her head at the moment. He was only 13 for Merlin's sake! Or was it 12?

She had thought he had more sense then to let that happen... with anger, she balled the letter up and threw it as hard as she could. It bounced off a hedge and landed around a bend where she couldn't see. Thinking that she had better fetch it, she started to walk towards it.

Is this yours? by Jennifer

Jennifer was doing pretty much nothing. She had been sitting on a bench, reading her copy of Wicked for the upteenth time, when suddenly a bunched-up piece of paper hit her leg.

She picked it up, and then saw a girl walk around the corner. SHe looked somewhat angry, too.

Jennifer held out the piece of parchement to the other girl. "I take it this is yours." she said jovially. Then she stopped. There was something familiar about this girl. Then, it hit her. "Excuse me," she asked. "But are you a Boyd? I've heard of your family before. I'm Jennifer Zucchero."\n\n

Happiness is overrated by Ty and Fiyero

OOC: Um, I posted under here 'cause I was responding to Mia's post, but that's ok too. Just to Mia; if you want to join in go ahead, I had meant to respond to yours, so it's only fair. ;)BIC

Ty couldn't believe it... it was unbelievable. Randolf 7 was an interesting boy to talk to, even if he was anti-muggles/muggleborns, if one could overlook that, he was interesting to talk to, not to mention quite mature for his age. He was a boy that thought for himself (which was a good thing if one was in line to be patriarch of the Boyd family), which was why this was such a shock. He had said himself he would only ever marry somebody that he believed would make a good match, and wouldn't be bullied into an arranged marriage. And here he was, at 12 years old (or 13 by now, she wasn't sure which), engaged!

To this... Melinda Pierce no less. Ty could barely recall the girl, she was... fairly typical from what Ty could remember. Her twin sister Belinda had gotten disowned, but Melinda was a more or less prissy, girly girl. Why Randolf would agree to marry her was beyond Ty, he must have simply gone with what they had said. Ugh, and she had thought he was independant minded! These thoughts rushed through her head, and she was only interupted when somebody said, "I take it this is yours." Startled, she looked up and saw a girl that looked vaguely familiar.

She took the paper from the girl's hand and stuffed it in her pocket, fairly unlady like (although wearing pants was unladylike enough to begin with, she always did so on photography expeditions). "Yep", she said distantly.

"Excuse me, but are you a Boyd? I've heard of your family before. I'm Jennifer Zucchero."

For once (well, actually, it happened quite often), Ty was completely uninterested in the girl's parentage. If she was pureblood, it associated in her mind with arranged marriages at the moment, which she wanted to avoid thinking about. "Yes. Tyranthia Boyd", she said dully. From most Boyd girls this would be accompanied by a curtsey, but her father had said she need not act so formally when she wasn't at a party or other such occasions, nevermind what her mother had said. Then again, her father was a bit of an oddball with the rest of the family, though perfectly respectable. Father had wanted a boy, and he got two girls, so his younger one had to make do, although she hadn't been raised as a boy. She had simply spent time with her father rather then with her mother. Suddenly realizing that her feet hurt, she asked "mind if i sit down?"

Just can't catch a break by Mia

OOC: To Ty (can I call you Ty?) LOL! I know you were responding to my post. But by the time I read it, I saw someone else had taken your attention away. But hey, I don't mind sharing. Honestly, I wasn't totally sure how to respond to your post right away but then I saw someone else already did. Oh well, like I said, I don't mind sharing ^_~
To Jennifer: Welcome to this posting thread! LOL!

BIC: Mia's attention was brought away from her puzzle once again but this time, less painfully. She heard two voices, two girls were talking a little farther down the way.

One girl she didn't recognize in the least and the other girl seemed vaguely familiar. But why Mia wasn't sure. That was until Mia had a third realazation that day. She remembered seeing the second girl in the library talking with...ugh! Why does everything seem to fall back to Elizabeth?! Mia already told herself she wouldn't dwell on it and now everything seems to have to do with it!

Mia scowled out of annoyance slammed her booklet down on the bench. Sadly, the book slipped from her hand and smacked into her bruised shin. Mia ended up making a squeak as her scream was muffled by her hands. She still made a loud disruption in the quiet maze. Well you can't really blame her, that bruise really hurt. Mia's half tearing eyes slowly shifted to the girls who were talking a little farther down. She wondered how they would react to her presence.

She knew it was no good but she hoped the other girls didn't hear her. Mia wasn't in the mood to talk to anymore pureblood maniacs. She knew she was jumping to conclusions but Mia wasn't thinking very rationally at the moment. She slammed into a bench causing a very painful bruise, had thoughts about that traitor after promising not to bother with it, smacked her bruise with her puzzle book and now she'd proabably end up talking to more pureblood maniacs who thought they were god's gift to the world. Mia knew she had that awful kind of luck and came to a fourth realazation.

This really wasn't Mia's day...

Hello by Jennifer

Jennifer replied that Ty could sit, and then she heard a muffled squeak. SHe looked around, and saw a girl with a growing bruise on her shin.

She walked over to the other girl. "Are you okay," she asked, concern in her grey eyes. "Your bruise looks pretty bad."

Then she stopped, and took a good look at the girl. SHe did look really upset about something. "Are you feeling alright? You look like things haven't been going very well."

Then, realizing that she was psychoanalyzing hte girl without knowing her, she qucikly interjected, "I'm Jennifer Zucherro. What's your name?"\n\n

First chances by Mia

Mia stared up at the first girl that she didn't know. She had introduced herself as Jennifer Zucherro. She seemed nice enough and not like a pureblood maniac, but then again so did...

"No! Stop it would you! Not everything has to do with her!'
Mia mentally scolded herself. Besides, Mia was all for giving first chances. It's the second chance you have to watch out for.

Mia raised an eyebrow towards Jennifer and then smiled brightly. Her bright hazel eyes covered any sign of annoyance she might have been showing. The mask was back but she'd give the girl a chance.

"I'm Mia, Mia Kerova. The bruise looks worse than it is but it's still killing me!" Mia exclaimed with a laugh. Jennifer seemed pretty nice but she had yet to learn about the girl from the library. She'd get to that in a minute. One person at a time.

Mia picked up her puzzle book from farther down on the bench she was laying on. She placed the book and her pencil on her lap and turned back to Jennifer. Mia gave her signature bright smile and continued.

"Things have been alright. Not everything's perfect but you have to take the good with the bad and I've had some really good and bad times here. I think the good outweigh the bad though." Mia explained in her high pitched voice with a shrug. Mia had a tendancy to ramble. She had to pace herself and not bore the girl to death. Jennifer really did seem nice and Mia liked that.

I don't *think* I'm a maniac by Ty and Fiyero

Ty had sat down on the bench, drawing her knees up and hugging them. What worried her she supposed was the fact that if Randolf 7, with all his influence, couldn't stop his arranged marriage, what if her mother decided that she should be in one too, for one reason or another. Miserable and angry, she stared at the hedge in front of her without really seeing it.

Something jumped onto her lap. She looked and saw her grey squirrel Fiyero, who was looking at her with concern. He had sense that something was wrong, and had come quickly. She smiled slightly at him, petting him, and he comfortingly rubbed against her rather like a cat before hopping to his usual place on her shoulder.

OOC: Sorry for the short post and the delay, but I'm finding myself with not a lot of time on my hands at the moment!\n\n

I *hope* you're not a maniac ^_~ by Mia

Through the side of her eye, Mia saw the girl from the library still sitting a little farther away. She wondered why she didn't come over as well. Perhaps she knew Mia was a muggleborn and felt she was too good to asscociate herself with such 'trash'.

'Oh give it a rest already!' Mia scolded herself again. She seemed to be doing that a lot lately.

Mia took a breathe and decided to throw caution into the wind and learn about the other girl. She seemed a tad upset. She had drawn her knees up and was hugging them...oddly enough, that's just what Mia was doing when she had been talking to Elizabeth here. Mia looked at the girl again, then turned to Jennifer.

"Come on," Mia said in a friendly voice "I'd like to go see what's wrong and if I can help. Maybe we can both help? You two seemed to be hitting it off before." Mia shrugged and smiled.

It didn't hurt to let other people tell you their problems but never again would Mia give others the burden of her troubles. Especially not people she didn't know well.

Mia picked herself up a bit slowly and slightly limped her way over to the other girl. She, gratefully, sat next to her and rested her leg again.

"Um, hi. I'm Mia Kerova. I don't believe we've met before." Mia said with her signature bright smile, hoping to raise the girl's mood a bit. Also hoping that Mia's conclusions from earlier weren't right.

She hoped she didn't just willingly start a conversation with someone who really didn't want to talk to her or be anywhere near her. That would just make things all the more awkward than they seemed at the moment.

Mia sat patiently waiting for some kind of response from the girl from the library. She also turned slightly to see if Jennifer had come along too.\n\n

Ty and Fiyero

January 06, 2005 4:57 PM

Well if I'm not, my author is by Ty and Fiyero

Fiyero eyed the girl that had approached Ty with bright beady eyes, trying to deduce whether she was a threat or not. He climbed down Ty and onto her knees to get closer to the girl and smell her (as well as protect Ty if need be, it had never occured to him he wouldn't be much use against a wizard or witch) . Hmmm... she didn't smell familiar, in which case, there might be some cause to worry.

Ty glanced down at Fiyero, feeling him tense as he often did when meeting a stranger. ""S'ok Fee", she said to him, but it didn't have any affect, so she lifted her head up to look at Mia (whose last name she didn't recognize, though she could be pureblood from another country. At any rate, Ty was rather fed up with purebloods for the moment).

Trying to cover up her dreary mood, as Mia's seemed so cheerful that Ty didn't really want to ruin it, she gave a small smile. "Sorry, he gets nervous around strangers. I'm Tyranthia Boyd", she offered. "You can call me Ty, everyone does", she added. Tyranthia was an annoyingly formal sounding name. "No, I don't think we have. What house are you in?" she asked, simply to make conversation. She didn't particularly want to communicate with anybody at the moment (seeing as when she was in a bad mood she prefered wallowing in her own misery), but the girl was oddly enough not bothering her.

Fee was starting to calm, sensing Ty's relaxed tone, and was now looking at Mia curiously. He was inquisitive by nature (he might be an intelligent squirrel, but a squirrel nonetheless), just cautious, and given where he had been born and lived, she didn't blame him. The forest surrounding Boyd castle was far from pleasant, hosting all manner of rather unpleasant (not that all of them were) creatures, both magical and not.

Ty for her part wasn't cautious at all, and although she didn't mind talking to people was also perfectly content in her own company, photographing. Of course, she had no reason to be suspicious of people, as she had had a perfectly normal and happy childhood as well as a few (though not very many) good friends. \n\n

Mia shook it off and looked back up as Ty began to introduce herself and the squirrel. Mia smiled again as she got a positive response. Things were going well with her too. Then again-

'Don't you dare!' Mia's inner voice warned. Mia mentally nodded and turned her mind back to the girl she just met.

"I'm in Pecari house. Though I'm postive I've seen you around the school just not in my Common Room. So which house's color did you turn at the welcoming feast?" Mia asked playfully.

"Nice squirrel, by the way." Mia added quickly as an after thought. The squirrel now seemed to be eyeing Mia the same way she looked at it before. An oddly intellegent seeming squirrel.

'Maybe Silk and it could be friends.' Mia thought to herself with a small laugh.

"I didn't go to the welcoming feast", said Ty, almost wistfully. "I was on vacation, and came a bit late. I was privately sorted in the headmistress's office." She thought it over a moment, then added "I turned blue though." Aladren. It wasn't a bad house in it's own way, though a bit boring perhaps. Rather like Ravenclaw at Hogwarts, or Terrigena at Salem. Studious.

"Nice squirrel by the way."

Fee bristled slightly. Although he didn't quite understand the language of humans (he hadn't been around them for much of his young life) and only understood the brief phrases that Ty said to him, he could tell when he was being made out to be a pet. Sensing this, Ty's hand automatically went to his head, as if on impulse, though she didn't know she was even doing it. "His name's Fiyero", she said quietly, trying to keep from thinking about the letter. \n\n

Jennifer, who had mostly been watching, grinned at that. "Like the book?" she asked, and then pulled out her sketchbook, and sat on a bench opposite the other two girls.

"The sorting feast was rather confusing, but interesting." she continued. "If you don't mind my asking, why did you come late?"

However, as soon as she said it, she inwardly cursed. It was probably a touchy subject, since Ty seemed to be a bit downtrodden. SHe must have a lot of things going on. "And are you ok?" she asked concernedly. She didn;t want to pry, but Ty looked like she was more then halfway on the verge of a breakdown.

Waiting for a response, she picked up her pencil, and began sketching Fiyero.\n\n

"Like the book?"

Ty shook her head. "I actually came up with the name before I had ever heard of the book, then Father told me about the book, so I had to read it", she said. She shrugged. "I was on a business trip with my parents in Africa, and it went a bit late is all", she said. "No big secret.

Are you ok?"

Ty nodded. "Yah, I'm fine", she stated, "just a bit... annoyed really. My cousin's getting engaged." Realizing that they wouldn't understand the full meaning of this statment, she elaborated. "He's only 12", she said with gritted teeth. She didn't particularly mind telling them this, it wasn't as if it was private. Hell, every gossip in the family would be spreading the news as if it were a wonderful thing they were forcing him to grow up faster then it was fair.\n\n

Twelve years old?! woah... by Mia

Mia was shocked at what Ty said. Her cousin was only twelve? Why in the world would someone get married at twelve. As far as Mia knew, boys were still supposed to be 'icky' about then. Mia had a thought as to why Ty's cousin was getting engaged so soon.

"Was this like, an arranged marriage or something? I've only ever heard of royalty doing that. Is your cousin royalty?" Mia questioned ignorantly.

Mia was getting a little nervous now and her imagination was beginning to form crazy thoughts. Mia had an over active imagination. Did witches and wizards need to go through arranged marriages? Was Mia going to have to marry some guy she barely knew?

'Hang on!' Mia interrupted herself. 'It can't be that normal if Ty is so upset by it. It was obviously a shock to her so chill out!'

Mia nodded to herself and pushed that from her mind. She focused on Ty again, waiting for an answer.\n\n

Ty tried unsuccessfully to supress a snort. He may not have been royalty, but from the way he strutted around around parading his title he might as well have been. At any rate, most purebloods seemed to think he was, that was to say, most 'proper' purebloods did.

"No, he's pureblood. Great-Grandfather wanted to see his eventual heir engaged before he died, so..." she shrugged. "Yah, an arranged marriage." Mia probably didn't get it, but that was alright. She was lucky she didn't have to live with the fear (however distant and unlikely) that she would be forced into an arranged marriage. Not that Ty would ever let it happen, but still.\n\n

Mia nodded as her suspicions were confirmed. It was an arraganged marriage. Mia honestly thought they were disgusting and stupid and cruel things to put a person through. Forcing someone to get married was a horrible thought to Mia. But of course, the boy wasn't royalty, no. He was a pureblood.

"Pureblood, royalty, apparently some purebloods here don't see the difference. They think they're better than everyone because they're rich, they're fancy and their blood is pure." Mia said mockingly although she was speaking more to her self but still spoke aloud.

"Honestly, I find it nauseating that people can be so disrespectful and prejudice. Especially if the person didn't decide to feel this way until after making friends with muggleborns. Ugh! That girl makes me sick!" Mia ranted on without realizing she started voicing her opinions on Elizabeth.

Mia quickly stopped herself before she bored the girls to death with her rambling. Mia swore she'd find a way to stop doing that. She looked at Ty and gave her an apologetic smile.

Jennifer leaned across to give Mia a small hug. "It's okay," she replied softly. The poor girl was so upset. Jennifer didn't know who had done this, but it had been cruel.

"You're right, a lot of purebloods believe that. I'm almost the shame of the family at times because I don't. It is wrong, and there is no reason why it shoud be tolerated besides tradition.

"However, whoever it was that hurt you probably had some reason for it. She didn't think, that much was obvious, but she must have had a lot of pressure going on. That doesn't forgive what she did, though. My advice is to forget about her, since she's probably not going to change. I know it hurts, and that my advice sounds cold, but it's the only thing you can do. SHe probably didn't deserve to be friends with you, anyway." she said, and grinned softly. Mia slightly jumped as she received a hug. She listened while Jennifer told her things she already knew. Mia already was ignoring Elizabeth. Well, she hadn't really met up with her since the whole incident but she thought that was probably for the better. When ever Mia thought about her she wanted to punch the closest thing to her. If Mia met her face to face... well let's just say that Elizabeth's face would probably be the closest thing to her.

"It's no big deal, really. I've long since forgotten about her." Mia said with a bright smile "I just slip and start mouthing off my thoughts sometimes. That's all. Anyway, how about a different topic. I think this one is getting a tad depressing." Mia said dramatically and pretended to dab away a tear.

Mia laughed and looked at the two girls. Her signature smile covered any upset feelings she had before.

"I'm sorry. I stink at holding conversations. So, um, do you guys have a favorite class yet?" Mia asked lamely. She mentally kicked herself and promised to practice conversationing skills when she had the time.\n\n
