Valentine was not one of those students who spend an inordinate amount of time in the library. However, she was no stranger to the place either. Between the gaming club and Bonabelle, she did spend a fair amount of time here. She had not though, spend much time talking to the librarian. That was something she thought she needed to remedy if she was applying for an opportunity for gaming club president. He was the club's sponsor and very graciously allowed them to use the library for their gaming sessions. She thought that the MARS rooms might be more fun at times, but by now it was tradition. If there was however small chance of her getting the position, she thought she should get to know Mr. Fox-Reynolds better.
As luck would have it, she needed to return a book to the library today. So as she placed 'Grandmaster Girrard's Never-fail Transfigurations Techniques' back on the front desk, she smiled at the librarian. "Hi Mr. Fox-Reynolds! I'm returning this book," She felt it probably best not to comment on how helpful it had been, because she wasn't sure that Grandmaster Girrard had any idea what he was talking about. Instead she brought up the topic she actually wanted to talk to him about.
"I wasn't sure if you had heard," She really didn't know how close the president and the sponsor kept in communication, "but I put in my application to take over the gaming club after Ness graduates." She paused with an uncertain smile now, "I'm not sure if I'll get it, but I thought that maybe we should talk a bit, just in case I do take over next year. Is there anything you think I should know about beforehand..." Her voice drifted off then and she glanced about, before continuing more quietly, "Or is that all things that only the actual president gets to know?"

Tarquin was quietly staffing the library desk and flicking through a book catalogue when Valentine approached. It started out as a perfectly normal library interaction, though perhaps with a more overly perky smile than the returning of a book normally elicited (though he supposed he could see why she was glad to be rid of it - dreadfully stuffy old tome that it was, but there was [at least practically if not actually] a law about having it in school libraries). The interaction did not stop there, as it usually would, but moved onto the gaming club. At first, he didn't assume she was doing any more than just making chit chat. He had raised a Teppenpaw, and was married to someone who could have gone that way but most likely would have been a Pecari; he was therefore very used to people who used far more words than necessary and were inexplicably chipper all the time. They weren't bad or unwelcome qualities, even if they weren't him. He'd never really learnt to wear his feelings on the outside where just anyone could see them, and had certainly never learnt how to light up a room just by walking into it, but he was capable of appreciating that quality in other people - it kept some of the attention off him, for one thing.
However, it did turn out that Val wanted something. Namely to know the secret and many lores of working with him.
Don't leave crumbs just about summed that up, and it was a rule by which all the gamers had to abide, so Valentine was most likely already aware. He supposed extra presidential duties were 'make sure no one else leaves crumbs' and 'if crumbs are left, be prepared for stern words.
It did not exactly go with the exciting almost semi-secret society atmosphere she was giving it. But then, the trouble with being an adult on the outside was that you really had to check your sarcasm and fancifulness. Students would take it either seriously or personally. You were supposed to give direct and informative answers, especially if the child didn't know you well enough to tell your joking voice from your regular voice.
"I believe the correct response to that is to ask you to roll a funny shaped die, is it not?" he smiled, opting for the middle ground and seeing how it went over.

The librarian had a curious look about him after she asked her question. Then he gave the bestest answer ever! The smile spread across her face as she giggled at the response. "It is!" She practically cheered. She definitely liked Mr. Fox-Reynolds, he was fun! Without hesitating she dug around for just a moment in her bag, found a smaller bag, opened it and rolled a d20 on the desk. It stopped rolling with the number 20 on top. Her eyes sparkled, and this time it was a definite, but still mostly quiet (they were in the library after all) cheer, "Critical success!" She grinned cutely triumphant at the librarian. "Plus," she added with a mildly embarrassed undertone, "I've been told I have a pretty good charisma modifier as well."
It only then occurred to her that unless he used the term 'funny shaped die' in a humorous manner, he may not have any idea what else she was talking about. How many years had he been sponsoring the club? Gary had started it in his... second year? That was at least five then, plus last year and so far this year. Had he ever played in the games himself? Had Gary or Ness ever invited him? "Mr. Fox-Reynolds, have you ever played with the club? If not, and you'd like to, you are always welcome to join in! It's fun!"
Then her eyes went wide as another thought struck her. "Ooo... we should do a staff game!" Her mind started to race about what she knew about the other adults around the school. Mr. Fox-Reynolds was a nice but also seemed very disciplined, "You could play a monk, or maybe an investigator... Professor Brooding-Hawthorne would obviously play an alchemist," she continued thinking out loud. "Professor Skies... hmm... a wizard I think... Oh! Professors Xavier and Marsh could both be druids! One order of Leaf the other the order of Animal!" Who else was there? "Professor Brooding-Hawthorne could be a fighter... no a champion!" She was missing someone... "Mr. Row could be a bard or maybe a cleric..." Then she smacked her forehead. "Aunt Giselle! She's obviously an Oracle."
