I have Concerns [Professor Carter-Xavier] by Mab

It was the same evening that Professor Skies had given them an explanation of what had been happening this term with the broken penseive and the loose memories turning up everywhere. Given the drawing Alexander had shown her and his description of what he had seen, it did not come as a great surprise that Bel Pierce's stern looking face had turned up on the poster put up identifying the memories that had been recovered. She'd already anxiously swung by twice to see if any names other than Alexander's turned up under it.

The thought that somebody might have seen it and didn't admit to it made her add her own name (Mab, of course - she was never Mallory Beales except on Very Official papers; everywhere else, including homework and unit exams, she was only ever Mab without even a surname) under the two she had seen - the magician in Divinations class, and the school counselor woman - because she felt their owners had a right to know who had seen what they weren't supposed to see.

She didn't think the birthday party one was going to bother whoever it belonged to, which was good, because an entire elective class of intermediates had seen it, but the other one was almost as bad as hers, especially since enough clues had been dropped that she had a pretty good educated guess as to whose it might be, since it had to have come from someone here at Sonora.

She wondered what clues had been dropped in hers that might allow her to be identified. Alexander had come to her pretty quickly about it, but Alexander had the advantage of having the same foster mother who had featured prominently in the memory. Had there been enough that someone from her booth last year might pick up on it? Had there been anything in there that said it was Boston? Most of the school probably knew she was from Boston, from her accent if not her ABCD booth.

Other than Bel herself. Alexander wouldn't be the only one who might recognize her. Ness McLeod even knew she was fostering Mab and Alexander. Evelyn Stones knew, too, but she might not recognize Bel as readily.

If it had just been Bel on the poster, she wouldn't have been nearly as worried. Bel featured in a lot of Mab's memories over the past three years, and probably featured in quite a few of Alexander's. It was the other guy who was the problem. And even more than him, it was what Alexander had said he'd seen outside the MARS room.

If anyone else had seen that . . .

Bel knocked on Professor Carter' door and slipped silently inside when invited to do so. She closed the door behind her and locked it for good measure so nobody else could barge in.

Her face was more pale than it was normally, and though there was not a lot of expression on Mab's face, she seemed agitated.

"I was arrested," she stated outright, not sugar coating it, but offering no more details than absolutely necessary, and getting right to the point. "The initial interrogation was my memory that got spread around. I don't want anyone else to know about it. It's supposed to be a sealed juvenile record. I know my foster brother saw it, and I don't mind too much that he did, but I am not comfortable with anyone else knowing."

I think we all do by Isis Carter-Xavier

The situation with the memory leaks this year had been by no means easy for anyone. Isis was glad, at least, that the source had been discovered and the problem solved. She herself had not witnessed many, but the one she had continued to sit heavily on her mind: a teacher who, perhaps in the woman’s own mind, was doing what she could to help a student, but Isis only felt the presence of someone beaten down and not given the opportunity to display his full potential. Someone unseen, in more ways than one.

From the talk of splitting two people up, Isis had been able to easily put the pieces together and now knew it was of course Oz’s memory she had seen. Given her attachment to the boy, she felt a little extra grizzled by the woman’s demeanor. The Muggle educator at Oz’s old school had clearly only been concerned with the result. What was being turned in? Isis cared about the reasons, why was it done that way. She did not aim to help him grow, only to get his test scores up. Education was a lot more complicated than that. It was no wonder now that Oz was having difficulty adjusting. No one had ever helped him adjust before, even to the comparatively minor changes in his life. He needed a hand, and Isis had two.

She had scanned the poster of memory stills very, very nervously and cautiously, guaranteeing that none of her own were present. And fortunately, none were. Isis had a lot in her past that she did not want the school’s majority to see: a rough youth in an even rougher neighborhood, too much violence, and too much loss. She didn’t know whose corpse the pensieve might have showcased, both metaphorically and literally, had it tapped into her mind. Although Oz’s memory stirred an old one within her, a somewhat similar talking to. It gave her an idea.

These memories had indeed caused quite a stir, and the school seemed to be more nervous now, a little scared about who knew what was meant to be private. Isis was not surprised by knocks on her door, so this one was no exception. She permitted entrance and saw Mab reveal herself, although the locking of the door behind her did raise some immediate flags. Fortunately, Isis did not have to wonder for long.

As someone who was pretty lucky to have not been arrested as a juvenile, she felt no judgment toward Mab for her statement, nor did she need or want to know what the young girl had done. She was so young - only a third year - so it couldn’t have been too terrible, and obviously, if she were dangerous, she would not be at Sonora. Still, it took the professor a moment to compile her thoughts into something articulate.

“I am so sorry, Mab,” she offered sincerely. “That isn’t anyone else’s business, and you must be feeling so violated. Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do about what has happened. Have you checked to see if anyone else has signed off that they have seen it besides your foster brother?”
