Proper forms of address by A Memory
Perhaps they were story book characters? That, after all, would be logical, given that this was the library, and given that the figures that manifested were a pirate and some kind of winged human (those with knowledge of non-magical culture would recognise this as a fairy, though those who had grown up with actual fairies might not). It also definitely wasn't a real pirate. Even ignoring the fact it was made of silver mist; it was not a silver misty representation of a real pirate. The current way it was manifesting hid some of the ways that the clothes looked costumey, but the sword that the pirate was holding was unmistakably fake and plastic, as was the pumpkin shaped bucket he was holding out with his other hand. He was also smiling far too much to be a real pirate, although he looked a little nervous behind it."Looking good, buddy," he stated, offering a thumbs up. He appeared a little taken aback by the response he got, though more surprised and definitely a little amused rather than upset or offended.
"Forgive my piratical informality," he stated, bowing low in mock obeisance, "Looking good, your majesty."
"Okay, ready to go?" asked the fairy with a bright smile. She also listened carefully to the response, bending down slightly. Both of them had spoken to this angle, as if addressing someone no bigger than Dora Xavier, perhaps even smaller. "Well, I suppose not," she agreed, "What shall we call you instead then?" she asked. There was a pause, but not much of one, and nor did the pirate or the fairy seem to feel the need to argue back or debate what they were told.
"Alright then," the pirate nodded, as both adults held out a hand so that someone could join in between them. "Let's go get you some candy corn, Princess Ellie."

Rosalynn walked through the library, not quite sure exactly what she was looking for. Her finger ran over the spines of books without fully reading the titles, just skimming over a word here and there. At the risk of sounding un-Aladren, she didn't actually feel like reading anything right now, though she kind of wanted to feel like reading something, and she was sort of hoping something might (possibly literally) jump out at her to pique her interest.And when a silvery mist coalesced into a scene with people dressed in Halloween costumes, she thought maybe she had gotten her wish. They played out a small scene, and Rosalynn clapped when they finished. "Which book were you from?" she asked the fading mist, but there was no answer.
Well, she thought, it's a challenge then. She wondered if there were formalized rules and prizes or if it was just something fun the librarian did for bored looking first years.
Anyway, the book the scene came from was almost certainly fiction, probably muggle fiction, because wizardkind wouldn't dress up like fairies in quite that way, and Rosalynn wouldn't swear to it, but candy corn might very well be a strictly muggle food group, as unnaturally processed as they were, so she headed over to the muggle studies section, and tried to find a Halloween stories about someone named Ellie.
