Prompt 3 - Escape from the Restricted Section
by Grayson Wright
The book waited in the shadows for the librarian to pass. Once it was sure he was gone, it scuttled out of the restricted section, and settled against the chair of a nearby student, who was studying with some friends.

Malikhi had been attempting to study but it was most definitely not his forte. Worst of all, he was trying to understand his Transfiguration homework but he was starting to see that such a thing was beyond him. With an annoyed sigh, he threw down his pencil.
"I'm going to find something else to do. Transfiguration is too hard."
He moved to reach down the sides of his chair for his bag but his hand brushed the top of the book instead. He frowned, picking it up. It wasn't one of his books.
Cal looked down at the book and picked it up. They'd not had a magical book before. They hadn't had anything magical before. Not until their long-gone other side of the family had reappeared and offered them a new start had they found out the sheer amount of variety that life offered. Cal hadn't needed asking twice.
Cal didn't mind that everything was overwhelmingly new or confusing, because honestly a lot of the way the family that had raised them was confusing. The library was a haven in comparison, reassuringly safe and full of potential answers.
They held up the book and were halfway through asking whether anyone around the table had dropped a book, when they suddenly realised that everyone looking up at them had a terrified look creeping across their faces.
"What's wrong?" they asked, before looking back to their hand...
Malikhi was glad that the book wasn't his or, indeed, that he was holding it. His eyes widened as he watched Cal's hand swell and change colour. Fear flashed across Malikhi's face. This wasn't one of his pranks, he knew that. He didn't make people's body parts swell and, as a result, he also didn't know any of the reversal spells. This was some freaky book and Malikhi shouted the only helpful (but also extremely obvious) thing he could think of.
"Hey, put it down!"
He nearly went to grab it but giving that Cal's hand seemed to be turning green, he stopped himself.
