Alone in the Wilderness (Luka) by Addison Regan Thornton

Addison had been sitting in the stands watching her older sister’s Quidditch game nervously. She hid her eyes in her hands every time one of the fast black balls went by anyone to the point where any player could be hurt in any way. The red head was normally nervous and careworn about anything that had even the slightest chance of going wrong, so this was no surprise to her. One of the players fell off their broom and then another in a domino effect which not only caused the eleven year old to hide her face, but also to screech with pain, though it hadn’t been her or Arista who had fallen!

However, turning her attention back on the game after the two players were back in once more, her eyes opening wildly at the racing black ball. It was heading straight for Arista! “NO!” the eleven year old shouted even more wildly than the ball was racing. She stood up and kept on calling, “NO!” Addi turned red and started to shake with worry for her sister.

The twelve year old was well accustomed to falls and those things didn’t phase her, though they did phase her younger sister… However, the black ball rushed right towards Arista, and Ris hadn’t seen it coming, Addi was sure of it. “RIS!” she called as the impact of the ball hit Arista’s head.

“NO!” Addi called again, her large frame, struggling with more than normal. ‘To jump the fence into the field? To stand there and cry?’ Thoughts ran through the mind of the young first year to the point of tears. “ARISTA!” the overweight 11 year old shouted, shaking hard. Addison watched as her sister fell from her broom fast and hard, and watched, eyes wide, as Coach Pierce helped her down and to the Medic.

The overweight, and anxious first year watched, breathing hard and deeply, feeling not only an asthma attack coming on full blown, but also that perhaps she would have to owl home that Arista hadn’t made it through her first game of the year. “RIS!” she called again, shaking even harder now. “RIS!” she screeched again, landing on her knees right on someone in the row ahead of her, tears streaming down her face like a waterfall.

She was scared. Couldn’t lie to herself. Nothing felt worse than this, not even her first day there and all she had wanted was Arista and her Mother, neither of which she had right now, nor was she sure that she’d get either that day.

‘Mom!?’ Addi thought to herself, eyes widening, and brimming yet again with huge teardrops. ’Mom hasn’t had the triplets yet! This news could hurt her or the girls! I can’t tell her this! Not now!?’ Addi thought, wondering what she was going to do. She was at a loss for words and she felt lost, all alone in the world, and this was the worst thing that could have happened.

Addi knew it.

Breathing harder and harder, she looked around her, tears getting larger by the second as she watched her motionless sister get carried into the Hospital Tent.

That's not a good place to be by Luka Anastanov

Luka was not much interested in Quidditch. It was a great exercise, no doubt, but he didn’t understand all the hype.

For an eleven-year-old, Luka was strangely impassive. Maybe his rough, make-it-or-break-it life had something to do with it, but Luka liked to believe he was impermeable to such kind of unnecessary emotion or excitement. To some extent this impassivity was his armour and essential to his survival. But he also enjoyed a part of it, he felt untouchable, invincible within its fold.

So, when he had walked into the feverish crowd, the Pecari had felt quite out of place. He took a seat beside a red haired, chubby girl, who seemed exceptionally nervous. She hid her face whenever a Bludger zoomed towards a player’s head. Luka focused on the game, his alert, green eyes following the players and the ball. The open air felt good as it breezed through his somewhat long, jet black hair. He folded his arms across his chest, leaning back in his seat.

It happened so suddenly, Luka almost thought he had fallen asleep. A player had been hit by a Bludger. The girl tumbled down from her broom, until the deft coach caught her in her own broom and carried her to ground. Luka knew accidents happen (well, so he had been told. His family couldn’t afford a Quidditch game ticket even if they went without food for a year) in the game. But this was too abrupt. Well, that’s a trait accidents do seem to posses, he told himself drily.

The whole crowd echoed disbelief and anguish over the fall, but now Luka realized the girl beside him was more hyper than… normal.

She shouted, “RIS!” Maybe she knew the player personally. And with that shout she started hyperventilating and shaking and crying all at the same time.

She shook so hard, Luka realized someone needed to calm her or she might pass out. He got up from his seat and walked upto her.

She didn’t seem to have noticed him, so gingerly he put a firm hand on her shoulder. “Hey, are you all right?” asked Luka, more politely than he knew he was capable of.

“Calm down. She has been taken to the medic, she is going to be fine,” he said, sounding almost like he cared.

No kidding... by Addi

Addison had hid her face every time a bludger flew by anyone, and she wasn’t sure she cared who had seen it. But then when Arista had been hit, the eleven year old was far too scared to do anything but scream! Screaming her sister’s name over and over again, all the while shaking and feeling utterly powerless to help Arista.

She was so far away from where her body was presently that she hadn’t noticed that a young man with sort of long jet black hair and green eyes had walked up to her. Her thoughts were stuck on Arista and their mother. ‘If Arista doesn’t make it…’ she thought, screaming “RIS!” once more. ‘If Momma hears about it she could lose the triplets…’ she went on in her own head, weighing her options, all the while, shaking with pain and worry.

Soon Addison felt a firm hand on her shoulder and she jumped, breathing with a sort of a seal’s sound. “But…” Addi said watching the medic tent with fear and trepidation. The overweight eleven year old looked to the boy who’d been talking to her. “I- want- my- sister-” she said sobbing now, trying to decide if she cared that she didn’t know who this boy was enough not to cry to him.

Addi shook and reached up to him shakily. She didn’t know what else to do. The eleven year old didn’t care that she didn’t even know the boys’ name or what house he was in. She had no idea, nor did she care! Addison knew she just needed to see Arista, and even this boy may be able to get her there. Placing her hands shakily on his arm, she looked at him, pleading in her eyes for him to help her.

However... by Luka

Luka was too surprised to flinch when the girl squealed like a walrus. It was just a small injury in the head, and this girl was acting like Armageddon has come!

“But…” she trailed off. “I- want- my- sister-”

So that explained her reaction – she was the retired hurt player’s sister. But still, Luka felt there was no need for such a reaction. He had almost been crucified by a bison and his brothers deftly took care of him. But then, they were boys and had grown up in a hostile environment.

He nodded. “That can be arranged. But you have to calm down first,” he said, gently but firmly.

The girl seemed wrought between trying to soothe herself and controlling another outburst of emotion.

She put a shaky hand on his arm. By instinct, his muscles twitched to retract his hand, but he kept it in place, around her shoulder. The girl looked at him with her pleading eyes.

Luka wondered if it would be safe to take this girl to the hospital wing – she was already nervous, what if she completely broke down if she saw her sister? But Luka just couldn’t comprehend where his kindness was coming from today – but he decided he would accompany her to the hospital wing. A flash of a memory helped him make the quick decision….

Thankfully most of the students had turned back to the game to notice them. He gently guided her towards the steps. “Come on. Let’s go to the Hospital Wing. You can see for yourself that your sister is all right.”

Hiccoughing by Addison

Addi had said that she wanted her sister, and the boy had told her that could be arranged. The overweight first year nodded hard, and tried even harder than she had been to calm down. Hiccoughing with a sort of mixture of a cough and a hiccup, she tried to catch her breath as she put a shaking hand on his arm. Addison thought she felt his muscles twitch, as if he didn’t want her to touch him, but she thought better of it and figured that it was her own muscles she’d felt. Looking through pleading eyes, he gently guided her towards the steps.

Nodding emphatically, thinking she’d kiss the boy who said he would take her to Arista, she followed him like a little lost puppy dog of sorts. Glad she hadn’t kissed him, though she wanted to, she wondered what would have happened if she had! The first year didn’t even know this boy’s name, and yet there she was wanting to kiss him for taking her to her sister! Addison followed the boy down and out of the Stadium, back to the school and up one corridor and down another till they reached the Hospital Wing.

OOC: CONTINUED IN THE HOSPITAL WING!
