Professor I. Linn

Ichabod Linn watched from behind his desk as everyone came into the room and took their seats. It was a lot darker than usual, the glow of the purple walls dimmed to nothing and only floating candles offering much of a guide through the dark room to help students find their tables. The room was perhaps the coldest one in the school, with temperatures to match that of a snow day’s and the smoke curled up on the ground being even colder yet. But if he wanted anyone to find any sort of success with today’s lesson, these conditions were ideal.

“Nice to see you all,” he greeted, not seeming to be bothered by the chill. “If anyone is too cold for today’s lesson, come see me and I’ll conjure something for you to stay warm in if you can’t do it yourself. Because of what I have planned, the darkness and coldness both have to stay put, I’m afraid.”

He waved his wand so that four candles could come down to the desks to provide enough light for everyone to see what was seemingly glued down to the top of it: a ouija board. “In predicting the future, sometimes it’s good to take a look in our past. You’d be surprised, I think, at how helpful the departed can be.”

“We’re going to try and conjure up spirits today to help give us advice on decisions we plan to make in the future. I want two people working together – Ouija boards aren’t something to go at alone and expect results from unless you have more of a talent for it – and pick out two people, either departed souls you personally know or a type of departed person you’d want to connect with. From there, take advantage of the chance to ask them things and do. I’d like a three foot essay due next class on whether or not the Ouija board brought nay results, and if so what and if not why you think it failed.”

Linn walked to the Ouija board on his desk and bent over it. “Now, for this to work, one person must be on either side of it. Instead of a planchette, I’d like you to place the tips of your wands on the board. One person will summon the spirit, the other person will act as the planchette. If you are responsible for summoning the spirit, think about the person, everything you can remember about them or, if you don’t know them, any qualities you think they should have. Make sure you share this with your partner so you get efficient results. From there, the second person must channel your magic through your wand, let the summoner ask questions when either of you feel a presence, and let the spirit guide your wand.”

He nodded at the class. “If you have any questions or need any help, feel free to just say so. Stay focused, work together, and please begin.”

OOC: It’s up to you whether or not spirits come, as well as who they are. Happy posting!
