Teppenpaw Quidditch Try-Outs by Captain Hannah Laurent

The fact that seven people had signed up for Quidditch was a miracle. It was known that Teppenpaw tended to have the least competitive spirit of the houses. Granted, Aladren’s was more in the academic than the athletic field, but still it stood that Pecari was by far the most competitive with Crotalus close behind. As a result, Teppenpaw would barely get seven people on a team and that was only after begging and pleading. But this time, the list had filled up quickly. They had even gotten more than seven people, which pleased her greatly as her greatest desire was to finish this year with a win, because well, one she wanted to play professionally and a win would look good and second she wanted to knock Oliver off his pedestal.

Though, she would admit that throwing spaghetti on top of his head had been a rather harsh thing to do, she was still upset that he had been an absolute jerk. The timing was incredibly horrible. She would have rather they broke up before their final year. Instead, she got to end up with no boyfriend and no friends while he probably had a new girlfriend and lots of friends, which just seemed rather unfair to end her last year like that so in some way, she thought that she deserved at least to win at Quidditch instead of him ending up with everything. She was actually rather determined about winning, which she felt a bit sorry for the team, because they were about to be whipped into shape. No rest for them!

“Welcome to Teppenpaw Quidditch Try-Outs. My name is Hannah Laurent and I’m the Captain and Seeker,” she said, brushing back a bit of long, blonde hair that had blown into her face. She put her hand back on her hip. “And this is Lucie Dupree, the Assistant Captain and fellow Chaser.” She gestured towards the other blonde, but slightly younger girl next to her that few knew was her cousin that she was ambivalent towards. “That said, I’m going to call out the names on my list and the position listed. If anything is incorrect or if you’re not on the list and want to be, let Lucie or me know.” Walk-ons were always appreciated.

“Tobar Brishen, Keeper or Chaser; Colleen Ryan, Beater; Brian Moore, Keeper; Andrew Duell, Any; Kirstenna Melcher, Keeper; and Dmitri Petrovskii, Chaser. Any one I missed?” Once the initial paper work was done, Hannah went on to the really important matters. “Today, I’d like to try everyone in each position by running drills. Please be forewarned that you may not get the spot you signed up for more people signed up than positions available.” What she didn’t mention as that they might do better in another spot, which could make the team stronger. That was a conversation she would have when the time came with the individual, especially as it was possible they might choose not to join if they didn’t get the position they wanted.

“We’ll start with Keeper and finish with Beater. For the Keeper drills, I want everyone to take a turn being Keeper. You’ll stay in the spot until everyone who isn’t Keeper at that time has a chance to try to score. This will also serve as a partial Chaser try-out since I’ll be able to judge your scoring abilities. So, first up as Keeper is Tobar, followed by Brian, Kristenna, Andrew, Colleen, then Dmitri. After you throw the quaffle, go to the back of the line. Go ahead up.” Once they were ready, Hannah pulled out the quaffle and threw it to the first person in line. While they ran through the drill, Hannah and Lucie each took notes to consult with each other later. This would allow for a more unbiased process.

After they were done with Keeper drills, Hannah started them on the next one, Chaser drills, “Next, we’ll work on Chaser. For this one, I want three and three. Tobar, Colleen, and Kristenna on one team and Brian, Andrew, and Dmitri on the other. I’m not only going to be looking for how well you pass and catch, but how well you work with your fellow team members.” Ball hogs would only cause problems later on since they tended to make overly risky moves that could cost the game. All because they thought they were some sort of star. “At the sound of my whistle, you may begin. You’ll continue until my whistle sounds again.” She waited for them to be in formation then blew her whistle.

When they finished, she was sure they must have been exhausted by this point with how hard they had been working. “Five minute break. There are beverages on the lowest bench.” She figured they deserved a break and she wanted them refreshed for the last try-out. After all, it wasn’t like they had been working out all year. Some probably had never even played Quidditch before, but that was all right. They were doing as well as could be anticipated. When the break ended, she gathered them around. “I bet you’re probably all glad to hear that we’ve reached the last drill. The one for Beater. For this one, it’ll be a little like the one you just did for Chaser except you won’t have the Quaffle.”

She pulled out a bunch of used Beater bats. “For this, you’re all going to be Beaters and aiming for each other. We’ll divide into teams again. This time Tobar, Brian, and Kirstenna on one and Andrew, Dmitri, and Colleen on the other. I’m going to release the standard two bludgers. Your goal is to defend yourself and your team members while aiming for the opposing team. Again, we’ll start at the sound of my whistle and end with it. When finished, go sit on the benches. Lucie and I will be around to talk to each of you.” Again, she waited for them to get up into the air before releasing the nasty buggers and blowing her whistle.

OOC: Standard posting rules apply. Length, grammar, creativity, etc. count, but most importantly, have fun! Also, if there are any walk-ons, assume Hannah said you're name and place yourself on one of the teams.

Tobar and Quidditch go hand in hand. by Tobar Brishen

Tobar was rejoining the Teppenpaw Quidditch but he really didn’t want to be a keeper again. He hadn’t done bad at it but he always felt like he was a chaser. He frowned when he was told he was the first keeper to go up. He could purposely throw the tryout but did he really want to do that? What if he wasn’t a good chaser and he had thrown the keeper tryout then he wouldn’t be on the team in either position. He sighed as he kicked off the ground and flew up to the posts. He had carefully braided his long black hair into a long braid to keep it from blowing in the wind and getting in his face while he was playing.

As he circled around the posts, he decided he wasn’t going to do a horrid job at keeping, but not do his best. That way he could at least still have a chance at the keeper position if he didn’t cut it as a chaser. He caught three of the balls before allowing the others to go as keeper. He was only able to score on one keeper but that didn’t mean anything he still had the chaser drills.

He smiled at Colleen, and Kristenna as he got the Quaffle and sped off towards the goals. He dipped went high and low before he saw one of his team mates and passed it off to them. He grinned as he dropped back and let them do their thing he didn’t want to seem like a ball hog at all. That was a kiss of death trait in Chasers on a Quidditch team. He let out slow low breath waiting to get the ball back.

Brian Moore

Too nervous to know what Brian and Quidditch are by Brian Moore

Qudditch wasn’t much like any muggle sports Brian had ever played. There was no running like he did on his cross country team, there was no kicking like on his soccer team, no pool involved like his swimming team, and no rackets or nets like his tennis team. Not that this game was totally unfamiliar. It made him think of basketball-meets-baseball-meets –dodge ball-meets-the Olympics. No pressure there.

In case the thought try-outs didn’t make Brian nervous enough, the captain was positively horrifying. She had this determined ‘This is SPARTA!’ look on her face the entire time. It seemed like this wasn’t Quidditch they were auditioning for, but more like war or something. Gulp.

It was good she was a Seeker, because Brian wasn’t too sure he’d want to take her on for the Keeper position (he had enough competition for that spot as it was). Brian tried to take tally of everywhere there who wanted to be Keeper, while mentally cheering on Dmitri and Colleen who he liked right off the bat their first night at Sonora. Tobar Brishen, Andrew Duell, Kirstenna Melcher. Right, so four people want to be Keeper as of right now. Maybe… maybe they’d change their minds? Though this was technically Brian’s first time playing Quidditch and not reading or being told about it, so maybe he’d be better at something else. Who knows?

Though he still shivered nervously when Hannah ‘forewarned’ everyone.

“We’ll start with Keeper and finish with Beater. ” Brian nodded. Okay, this he could manage. Just do what she’s says as best as he could and don’t screw up. “For the Keeper drills, I want everyone to take a turn being Keeper. You’ll stay in the spot until everyone who isn’t Keeper at that time has a chance to try to score. This will also serve as a partial Chaser try-out since I’ll be able to judge your scoring abilities. So, first up as Keeper is Tobar,” Brian nervously shifted again. He was sort of hoping he could go first and get it over with. “…followed by Brian, Kristenna, Andrew, Colleen, then Dmitri. After you throw the quaffle, go to the back of the line. Go ahead up.”

Being the first person in line, Brian had the first opportunity to throw the Quaffle into the goal Tobar was protecting. Hannah passed him the ball and he juggled it before getting it in a steady hold. He decided to fly up a bit and throw the Quaffle into the goal with all his strength. Tobar caught it, of course, and Brian sighed before going to the back of the line. The only thing that made him feel slightly better about missing was that Tobar only caught two other balls.

When it was Brian’s turn, he nodded at Tobar out of respect. He didn’t want anyone mad at him for trying his best. He did a fairly better job, having been used to darting around in all his other sports. He stopped a little more than half the balls from going in after letting the first two sneak past him. He got better the more he did it, so he hoped intimidating Captain Hannah took that into consideration that, maybe, he’d do well in that spot as the season progressed.

Chasing wasn’t something he was excited to do, since he did fine passing the Quaffle to other players but didn’t do so well at getting it into the goal. Hopefully he could just pass it off the entire time. When he somehow managed to intercept the ball from the other team, he looked for Brian or Andrew to be somewhere near. “Here, catch!” he said as he passed it off to whoever was closest to the goal and hoped they could manage to do well at passing it off to someone else before the captain blew the whistle again.

Andrew Duell

Andrew and Quidditch are... still getting acquainted by Andrew Duell

Andrew stood out on the field holding his broom, looking around at the others gathered for try-outs. There was a decent sized group out here again, he had been under the impression that Teppenpaw never got many trying-out. Oh well. He was here, and he was going to give it his best again.

Hannah looked determined this year. This would definitely be interesting. Maybe it wouldn't be the end of the world if he didn't make the team again. Oh well, he'd try out and see what happened. If he made the team, great. If not, oh well, he'd survive. The drills she was going to put them through seemed fairly straightforward. On command, he hopped on his broom and shot into the sky.

This part he loved. The wind rushing through his hair, the sense of freedom, it was great. Then someone tossed him a ball. Oh, right, the drills. He took his turns at trying to score and trying to be keeper. Two of his shots made it through the goals, he was rather unsuccessful at stopping the Quaffle from going through the goals. He was getting the feeling that keeper was not his position.

He looped around the field a bit for the Chaser try-outs keeping his eye on the Quaffle and his teammates. He saw Brian make some sort of slick maneuver to get the ball. Andrew moved around to get to a clear position to receive if the ball came his direction, and a moment later it did. He caught the ball, dropped it, and swooped down to recover it quick. The other side was on him now and he had to get rid of it quick. He looked around for his team and threw it again fast.

Kirstenna Melcher

Kirstenna and Quidditch just met but throwing is the enemy by Kirstenna Melcher

Kirstenna, as she often was about many things, was excited and enthusiastic for Quidditch try-outs. She listened, bouncing on her heels a bit, to Hannah's instructions.

It turned out that she was going to be trying out for every position but Seeker. Kirstenna frowned slightly. She really didn't want to be a Beater. She didn't think she had the vicious temperment for it.

But, first, was Keeper try-outs. This was the position Kirstenna wanted and she was the third person in line. She didn't manage to score on any of the others, not because they blocked her catches, but because only one of her throws made it anywhere near the target-and even that one didn't get in the hoop. She did, however, manage to stop a fair number of other people's throws from going in.

Next, was Chaser. After her dismal attempts at throwing through the hoop, Kirstenna had a some doubts that she'd be any good at the position but she would give it a try.

She kept focused on the Quaffle as it went from Tobar to Brian to Andrew. As soon as Andrew threw it off, Kirstenna got ready to intercept and caught the ball. She quickly tossed it to her nearest teammate.

Unfortunately, her lousy throwing record was to continue, and the Quaffle missed them by a good three feet.
