It had been a difficult year and she was starting to realize that she was wearing herself thin. She went from classes to practice to games to Quidditch matches at the school. Her life revolved around the sport. She lived a breathed it, in a sense.

The day was a mild one, with a light breeze. Having arisen early, a habit she had finally started to pick up once again due to practices, the pitch was already ready for the game. The sky was clear with only a few clouds dusting the sky. Although it was January, the temperature was in the upper-50s.

The stands were beginning to fill and there were evident splashes of brown and gold and yellow and maroon littering the pitch. She could hear the excitement in the voices of the spectators and could almost feel the anticipation of the coming game.

It was almost time for the players to join her on the field and so she made sure that her gear was ready. The Quidditch supply closet was opened and ready for all players who might be in need of a broom or gear and the chest of balls was safely at her side, next to her own bag and broom.

She knew that her job was on the line and yet she felt little fear. She had earned her place over the years and she had remained this year, even though better opportunities had risen. She was a Quidditch star once again and there was little need for her to divide her time between the two. And yet she did.

Noting the approaching teams, Amy opened the chest of balls, preparing to let them fly after her customary speech. "Alright folks, it's time for another game," she started casually, "and the same rules apply as always." She glanced around, noting the familiar faces that she had become accustomed to over the years. "I expect there to be no dirty plays or ploys. Cheating is still unacceptable. Beaters," and here she looked at one particular Pecari, whom she had come to know very well, "you may not harm the spectators.

"Obviously, this game will continue until someone catches the snitch. Captains, be sure to have your reserve players on hand should the need arise. The medical tent is over there if you should need Wolfe."

Calling forth the captains, she instructed them to shake hands before telling the teams to get ready. She released the snitch first, the bludgers following swiftly afterward. The quaffle in hand, Amy mounted her broom and rose into the air. "When the whistle sounds on the count of three, the game is on!

"One, two, three!" And with that a loud, shrill whistle echoed through the stadium as the lobbed the ball high into the air. The game had begun.

Saul Pierce, Pecari Captain and Chaser

January 28, 2009 1:31 PM
Saul started the day earlier than normal. Today was his first match as Captain and that made it a Big Deal. Sure, he'd already lead countless practices this year, but they all came down to this: the actual Quidditch Match against another team. It happened to be Teppenpaw today, so they were starting off easy if the rumors of Teppenpaws trouble attracting a full team was at all true, but that didn't mean the Pecaris could slack off at all.

So Saul was down at the pitch, having eaten a good but not too heavy breakfast, with a good twenty minutes to spare. He was already attired in his Quidditch robes and he'd collected his usual school broom from the shed before he started roping together his team for the pre-game speech.

As the Cravens had before him, he kept it short and simple. "Okay, guys. You've all worked hard for this, so we're gonna show everyone today that we're still just as good as we were with the Cravens and Stephen. Go Pecari!"

Shortly after that, Coach Fox called for all their attention though she didn't say anything she didn't always say (though why Caedance warranted the special caution more so than the Cravens had was completely baffling). Then it was time to for the Captains to shake hands and Saul stepped forward after only the briefest of pauses while he took a moment to remember she meant him. Right. The Cravens had given him a chance to do everything but this while he was the Assistant, which made this feel more like an official passing of the torch than anything had so far.

He shook Dalila's hand and tipped an imaginary hat at her before mounting his broom and waiting for the whistle. When it came and the Quaffle was tossed into the air, Saul took off like a shot.

He caught the large red ball easily and made directly for the Teppenpaw goals. While he was only about halfway there though, he spotted one of his teammates who looked as though they had a slightly clearer path toward the goals. Calling out their name, he tossed the Quaffle in their direction.\r\n\r\n

Dalila Bastet, Teppenpaw Captain and Chaser

January 29, 2009 12:57 AM
Dalila had arrived early to the pitch, nervous for the first time in years about a game. It was her team, not Jake's or anyone else's that was going to play. And it was Dalila that was going to fail Teppenpaw if they lose. She sat, fully dressed for 15 minutes in the locker room before anyone else showed up. In fact, she was thrilled anyone had showed up at all with how hard it had been to fill up the roster.

It was colder than Dalila liked, but it wasn't freezing, raining or unbearably hot, so it was fine. She cast a warming charm on herself because once she got into the air, the wind was going to make it a lot colder. When the whole team had assembled onto the pitch Dalila gestured for them to gather round her.

"Today's the big day!" she started and after a brief pause, went on. "I just want to thank you all for signing up, coming to practices and putting your all into this team. I was a little worried at the beginning, with all the late signups and new people, but you guys have outdone yourselves and I just wanted to say I'm proud of you. Now let's get out there and do our best!" She grinned at her team, hoping that they couldn't see the worry in her face. Not about them, but about her. What if she hadn't prepared them enough. She was just happy that she wasn't up against the Craven twins; they had been intimidating enough when she was just a player.

She listened to Fox's curt, customary speech and shifted a little uncomfortably. She didn't have reserves. It had been hard enough just filling spots on the team. What if one of them got hurt? Dalila looked straight ahead. They'd just have to play with six. That was all. She stepped forward and took Saul's outstretched hand, feeling a little better after Saul's tip of the hat. She smiled and returned the tiniest of curtsies toward him, before mounting her broom and pushing off from the ground the second she heard the whistle.

But sadly it wasn't fast enough. Saul got to the quaffle first and Dalila let out a sigh of frustration as she turned sharply and followed close behind him, hoping for a chance to steal the ball. When he passed the ball in a way that Dalila couldn't get at it, she growled and pulled back a little and motioned for Lucie and the new girl (Abby? Gabby? Gabby) to get in the game.

Gabrielle DiCarlo, Teppenpaw Chaser

February 02, 2009 5:56 PM
Gabrielle had only played on a Quidditch team once before and on top of this little fact was that it had been at another school. Having not even seen a Quidditch game played at Sonora, she wasn't sure what to expect. Everyone she had met so far this year had been rather lovely, more than really, but this was Quidditch. It was a sport, one that was competitive and one that could be brutal. It brought out the inner beast in even the nicest of people.

As such, she had come prepared. In addition to her Quidditch robes, she was wearing the necklace she had made the night before using Amber, Moonstone, and Peridot crystals. Amber was said to bring good luck to warriors, which is what they all really were. Moonstone was for being one with the universe. And Peridot provided for a protective shield over the body. It was her belief that this would somehow protect her from the bludgers.

After all, the Moonstone was already working for it had brought her decent weather even though it was January, but then the weather was subject for interpretation. Having had spent her midterm in Ireland, the weather since getting back was much less cold and today would even be considered warm to her. For Gabby, this meant a good possibility of doing well since it put her into a better mood and the better the mood she was in, the better her performance.

And with the Captain’s speech about how she had been worried (was she still?), it seemed as though more than their best would be needed. A number of new people meant a disadvantage. Anyone that played and a good few that didn’t would know that. New people meant not always knowing how a team member would act or react. It made working as one entity that much harder and she tried not to worry that she would be the weak link among the Chasers.

Did Pecari have any new Chasers? Not having been around last term, she didn’t know if they did or not, but if they did, would they have similar difficulties? She hated to think it, but if they did, it would increase their odds for a win. She was just glad that Teppenpaw’s Seeker wasn’t new or else they might be in really big trouble and not even her crystals would be able to help. A quick touch revealed that the crystals were still around her neck and working, which eased her mind.

She was ready for this. She was ready to get into the air and was glad that the Coach’s speech was rather short. If it had been long-winded, she thought she would probably have begun to think of all the other charms she should have been wearing to bring their team luck or even that she should have made them wear some of the crystals. As it stood, her only regret was the inability to get a good look at the opposing team, having only enough time to focus on the faux hat tipping Captain.

Saul Pierce. She only knew of him, because he had been running a campaign to be Head boy. When the time came to vote, she wasn’t sure who she would vote for since she probably wouldn’t know the candidates very well, but invisible hats earned points with her. It struck a nerve of personality, creativity, and showmanship, all traits that she thought important in a Head boy. It gave the impression that he would not only do his best, but try to go beyond his best.

This appeared applicable to Quidditch, because as soon as the game started, he shot off with the Quaffle. As quickly as she could, she followed after. Dalila had a lead on her, as she was on Saul’s tail, but was it enough? Would he risk passing the ball or try taking a shot? He opted for the pass. Seeing Dalila motioning, Gabby leaned forward on her broom, trying to go faster, trying to get to the quaffle. Reaching out her hand, she managed a clean catch.

Tucking the quaffle against her body, she made a wide turn and headed off towards the Pecari goals. Unfortunately for her, she wasn’t even halfway when a bludger decided to make itself known. A sudden veer to the left had her thanking her crystals as the ball went past, but it was still too close for comfort as she felt the air coming off of it. Making eye contact with the nearest team member, she passed off the quaffle.

Lucie Dupree, Teppenpaw Chaser

February 02, 2009 5:57 PM
Game day! Game day! It was like a mantra inside of Lucie’s head. She loved game days. It was so much better than practices. Instead of running drills, they would be competing against another team. They would be competing against Pecari. She couldn’t say that the thought didn’t make her a little nervous. Pecari had a really good team. They always did, but it didn’t mean that Teppenpaw didn’t have a shot at being victorious. Yes, there were new players, inexperienced players on the team, but they had spent countless hours perfecting their skills and techniques. She thought they had a real shot at winning, but even if they didn’t win, they would be able to say that they had given it their best try.

Though, if they didn’t win, Lucie felt a little sorry for Dalila. It would be a shame for the older girl’s first and only year as Captain to go down without at least one win, especially after her wholehearted, attempted to inspire speech. Of course, it was unnecessary for Lucie. She was already excited enough and couldn’t wait to get up into the air. Unfortunately, there was still the Coach’s speech to get through, which thankfully was short. She bounced on the tips of her toes as she started getting antsy to play, but there was still the customary acknowledgement of the Captains to get through before she could actually mount her broom and get up into the air.

Finally after what seemed like forever, but in reality was an incredibly short span of time, the whistle sounded for the game to begin. Immediately, Pecari had possession of the quaffle. Dalila was already hot on Saul’s lead. Lucie opted to follow slightly behind a Pecari chaser in the hope that Saul would attempt to pass and she could intercept the ball. While he did pass, she wasn’t quick enough to make the interception, but grinned in internal cheer when the new girl, Gabby, made the catch nicely. Without another thought, Lucie headed down towards the other side of the field to attempt to be of aide to Gabby now that she had become the target.

Speeding up, Lucie was able to pull her broom parallel, if not a bit lower, to Gabby. She continued along like this until she spotted the bludger, but it was too close for her to be able to shout out a warning. Thankfully, Gabby managed to get out of the way in time. Not so thankfully, she was now no longer close or even enough with the other girl for a clean pass and the ball headed downwards towards the ground. Angling the tip of her broom in that direction, she headed after it, managing to get it back, but she having trouble getting her broom on track and holding onto the quaffle, she had no other choice then to pass it up in the hopes that someone in yellow would get it.

Hannah Laurent, Teppenpaw Seeker

February 02, 2009 6:01 PM
The first big game of the season and Hannah felt like it was her first game all over again with the nervousness, the tension, the agony of not even being able to guess how this was going to turn out. She could only imagine how Dalila felt as Captain. Teppenpaw always had a hard time filling spots, but this year had been near ridiculous. It had come to the point of practically begging people to fill them, but then it was hard to be enthusiastic about joining when one was considered a lesser team by many, whether or not it was true.

Hopefully, today they could prove that it was untrue. She fidgeted nervously, adjusting and readjusting her gloves, while Dalila gave her pep talk. If they lost today, she was going to begin thinking that she was bad luck for the team. She didn’t think they had won a single game with her as Seeker and what made today worse was that she would be going up against Pecari’s Seeker, the same person that she had played against in her very first game. At the time, she could have said it was because she was new, but now she had experience.

So, if she couldn’t manage to get to the snitch to win it for Teppenpaw, it meant either the other Seeker was extremely talented or maybe she just wasn’t cut out for Quidditch, which of course, included a shattered dream. She had always hoped to become a professional Quidditch player, but what if she just wasn’t good enough? What if she had no talent whatsoever? She had never considered anything else. Her grades were decent, not spectacular, but decent. So, what could she do without being gifted either mentally or physically?

Hannah rubbed her temple. It was all too much to think about at the moment and was only causing her to get stressed out. She really needed to calm down. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, blocking out all other distractions. In doing so, she missed Saul’s hat tipping, but caught Dalila’s curtsy, which seemed a tad odd. Never mind that it was right before playing Quidditch, but did anyone seriously ever curtsy anymore? Maybe. Maybe Dalila was one of those highfalutin pureblood that did that sort of thing. After all, it wasn’t as though she really knew that much about the girl.

But then that was partially her fault. She had never bothered to get to know Dalila outside of Quidditch. Of course, the differences in their ages played a part in that. Dalila was a seventh year and Hannah was but a fourth year. Even so, she knew all she needed to know, which was that Dalila tried her hardest to bring the team together, to inspire them, and to hopefully bring them to victory. Hannah for one was going to give it her all, more than. She put her game face on, before mounting her broom and kicking up off the ground into the air above everyone to begin searching for the snitch.

Dalila, Chaser

February 02, 2009 10:40 PM
A swelling of pride filled her stomach as the new girl snatched the quaffle and headed toward the Pecari goal. She let out a quick breath when the bludger nearly knocked Gabby off her broom, but regain her pride when Lucie quickly scooped it up and tossed it upward.

Without a second's hesitation, Dalila directed her broom forward to bypass a Pecari chaser and complete the pass. With a grin on her face, she darted across the field, zigzagging between bludgers and Pecari players. The opposing chasers were hot on her tail and before she was in proper range of the goal, she realized she would have to pass the ball. She noticed one of her wonderful chasers near the goal and Dalila hurled the quaffle in her direction.

Elly Eriksson, Pecari Seeker

February 03, 2009 7:39 AM
There was no feeling on Earth that compared to match day. Elly had been up for longer than was necessary and still hadn't managed to get her hair into any semblance of order. She'd left it in a messy braid which would hopefully stay in long enough to keep her vision hair-free throughout the game.

As she headed down to the pitch, Elly was attired in her new Seeker's gloves, broken in only since midterm because her old pair had finally worn down at the end of the year, and her Shock X200 held firmly in a clenched fist. She was even more excited about this game than usual because it was their first opportunity to try out their new line up. Nobody could doubt Caedence's apptitude at beating, and Elly had seen Meredith play more than enough times to know that she was brilliant. Saul had been on the team as Chaser since time began (well, since his first year, which was more or less the same thing) and Irene was flawless. Although he lacked Stephen's flair and finesse, Raoul was a good Keeper, and Kyler... well, he had worked hard during practise.

The Teppenpaw team was a joke among the rest of the school, what with them having to persuade players to sign up, but Elly wasn't fooled. Dalila and Lexi were seriously strong players, and Josiah knew what he was doing on a broom. Gabrielle was so far unknown: she could be brilliant. As for the Seeker, Hannah was assistant captain, like Elly was herself, and posed a reasonable threat. Elly had, once again, to rely on the fact that she was taller, and so had greater reach, and her broom was amazing (Ironically, it had been given to her by a member of the opposing team. Elly secretly hoped he would live to regret it). Plus Elly had only lost her team two games, and one was because of a shattered knee cap.

As they gathered on the pitch, Elly couldn't help but glance at the opposing Seeker - a more traditional build for the position - and offered her a wink. Then she couldn't help but laugh at Caedence as Coach Fox singled her out, and then again at the captains' shenanigans. This game would be fun, if nothing else. Less violent than playing against Crotalus and less tense than playing against Anne Aladren, Teppenpaw would be fun.

Swinging a long leg over her broom, Elly held tight and bent her knees, ready for the whistle. When it came she pushed firmly from the hard ground and rose at wicked speeds into the air. As always she tried to keep her eyes on the Snitch, but as always the tiny ball soon vanished from sight.

Saul Pierce

February 03, 2009 11:52 AM
The new Teppenpaw transfer (Gabby, wasn't it?) came out of nowhere and intercepted the pass Saul had sent toward his teammate. He sighed quietly and wondered if maybe he should have just made directly for the goal himself, but he didn't have time for second guessing himself. With all the other Chasers, he changed directions and followed Gabby back towards Raoul.

At the near bludger hit, Saul took a moment to shoot a thumbs-up at his beaters, then climbed in altitude as the Teppenpaws tried to reorganize and the quaffle changed hands. He had no opportunity for an interception, so he followed Lucie, flying more above her than after her. She passed to Dalila and again he didn't have an opening to sweep in.

A short while later, though, that changed. Dalila made another pass and this time, Saul's altitude worked to his advantage. He dropped the nose of his broom and dove as fast and sharply as a seeker, but the ball he snatched out of the air in mid flight was significantly larger than a snitch.

Hugging the Quaffle to his chest, he pulled out of his dive, flying upside down and toward the Teppenpaw Keeper. As the dive had brought him below the level of most of the chasers, his upside down position let him see who was nearby and he hurled the Quaffle at a brown-robed teammate with a shout of their name. Upside down and below the level of all three hoops, he was in no position to make a run at the goals himself.

Lucie, Teppenpaw Chaser

February 03, 2009 5:22 PM
After using two hands to steady herself on her broom, Lucie didn’t see who had gotten the quaffle, but assumed it was Dalila since all the Chasers were still heading towards the Pecari goals. Leaning forward, she zoomed forward to get back into the game. Being lower than the other Chasers gave her a slight advantage as she managed to avoid the crowd to meet Dalila near the goals. She saw the pass coming, but even so, she fell short of getting the quaffle and missed the pass, which gave Saul ample opportunity to get the ball.

A look of frustration crossed her features. She shouldn’t have missed that pass. How could she have missed that pass? Oh, well, there was no point in dwelling on what was now in the past. All she could do was focus on correcting the slight error of Pecari now being in possession of the quaffle. With a sigh, she chased after the now upside down Saul. She had to hand it to him that he had some talent on a broom to be able to fly that way. She didn’t think she would be able to no matter how much she practiced.

Although, it wasn’t as though she had many ample opportunities to practice outside of scheduled practices since she had other activities going on and at home she wasn’t allowed to play at all. No, instead, there her activities included the loveliness of etiquette lessons, which she didn’t really see the point of. What did it matter if she knew how to use the proper fork or not? But according to her mother, it was important, because no boy from the right family would want to be associated with a girl that didn’t know such things.

While she went along with it, she thought it was a bunch of malarkey. She knew this coming summer would introduce her to the boy she was supposed to one day marry. She wasn’t sure that she ever wanted to get married, but if she one day did, she thought the boy should like her for her and not for her ability to hold a fork. He should like that she liked to play Quidditch and she played her best even against a boy. She was just about even with Saul creating a mirror image as she waited for her opportunity to get back the quaffle.

She bit her lip in apprehension that Saul wasn’t going to try and make a pass, but would instead take the shot. In honesty, it’s what she probably would have done in his shoes since the first time he made a pass, Gabby had intercepted it, but to her surprise, he went for the pass. Luckily, she was able to place herself between Saul and the intended Chaser. Correction made as she held the ball tightly against her stomach and headed back in the other direction. Being so far away from the targeted goals, she wouldn’t be able to hold on to it for long. Shouting at another Chaser, she sent the quaffle off.

Irene Liddowe

February 03, 2009 7:45 PM
Irene woke up. In the process of completing this action, she came to a horrible conclusion: she was not in the zone. Such a realization is not a comfort first thing in the morning on such a crucial day. Irene pulled herself from the heat of her covers, planning on find a way to force herself into the Zone. It was times like these that Irene was glad she was an early-riser. Plenty of time to get everything done. After a quick shower, a hair-drying charm, and changing into her Quidditch uniform, the brown-haired girl snatched up her broom made her way to the Common Room. She could feel her reflexes flooding back to her fingers as she tossed her broom from hand to hand. Quick breakfast, a few words tossed in with the twins, an exchange of glances with a few Tepps, and Irene was on her way to the pitch.

The Pecari team had been training like crazy for the past few weeks, months, however long the season had been going... And in this girl's opinion, it was going great. Saul was a fabulous captain, and Elly's captain-in-training deal was going great as well. Irene was so proud of her team for keeping it up every year. That was motivation enough for her to keep herself fit for every practice and game. Irene stepped onto the field, her eyes scanning the growing crowd. A bubble of excitement grew in her chest as she stepped onto the field. Yeah, her Zone was coming back. Before she knew it, the team was in the air. The teams were in the air and the battle went on. Irene swooped in for the Quaffle at the toss, but a chaser she didn't recognize claimed the red ball for the opposing team. Game on, Teppenpaw.

Irene followed the progress of the Quaffle, staying close behind each chaser, making sure that, when the opportunity came, she could seize the Quaffle. She fell in behind Lucie, glancing around quickly for any approaching bludgers. Kyler, their new chaser, had to be around somewhere too. Hopefully he wasn't suffering from nerves. All he had to do was follow along, and do as best he could to make sure Pecari kept the ball in their court. Speaking of keeping the ball in their court... Lucie called out, sending the Quaffle into the air. Perfect! Irene kicked her broom into speed, her hands almost shaking with excitement at the prospect of diving into the game. Her hands closed around the Quaffle and she tucked it close to her.

And here it goes.

Irene put on the speed, making her way towards the Teppenpaw goals. She looked around, praying to God that Kyler or Saul were close by. She wasn't in the mood to be a bludger target. Seeing a blur of brown, Irene aimed and swiftly passed the Quaffle, briefly losing grip for a moment. She sucked in a breath of air, hoping that she didn't lose possession for them. She crossed her fingers and fell into formation.

Kyler Kent, Pecari Chaser

February 03, 2009 8:15 PM
OOC: Author here. Forgot to put in Irene's Pecari Chaser info :/ Sorry!

BIC:
Kyler was super pumped, and by super pumped, he meant really really excited. He had gone to the Quidditch games last year and watched the awesomeness of the sport speed by in front of him, but whoa. No way did he think he would be playing! Kyler wasn't going to pretend that he was the best on the team. Not even close. Irene and Saul had years of experience on him. He was never the one to excel in anything, but he was hyped to be a part of the team. Practice had been killer though. He hadn't expected that. Quidditch was a big deal here in the wizarding world. And apparently winning mattered too. Which he understood. If they played for fun, then why is there a scoreboard? The brown-haired boy finished shoveling down his breakfast, reminding himself to eat carbs and protein for energy, and made his way down to the pitch.

Kyler was uneasy about the old broom he had to use to play in the game. What if the other team had all new brooms? That would be horrible. They weren't allowed to use turbo-boost or anything, were they? Kyler's mind was buzzing with possibilities, but his legs were itching to fly down to the pitch, rather than walk. Nevertheless, the second year found some self-control and kept his feet on the ground. He reached the pitch just about five minutes early. The game was soon to begin. Kyler listened as their captain, Saul the Awesome, gave them their motivation.

The teams crowded on the field. It was at this point where all excitement vanished and nerves swooped in. Everyone was so much older than him... Taller... Bigger... Badder... He suddenly felt the air pressing around him, like all eyes in the stadium were watching him, as if screaming, "Hey Kyler! Don't mess up!" He gulped as the teams mounted their brooms. Here comes the whistle... Here comes the whistle... The sharp screech was heard around the stands, but the sound almost broke his eardrums. He kicked the ground as hard as he could, hoping to shake of his nerves. He heard that sumo wrestlers stomped the ground to awaken the spirits to help them. Maybe that would work for him. The ridiculous assumption strangely helped him. Maybe there was some truth behind the legend... The Quaffle was up! And Saul had it! He almost let out a shout of victory, but before the sound could escape him, an opposing team member appeared, taking the Quaffle for themselves. Selfish people... The Quaffle remained in their possession. Irene was close by, following the chasers, eyes on the prize. Kyler, for some reason, felt lost. For now, he followed his teammates lead.

The Quaffle was soaring once again and, in a magical moment of hope, Kyler saw Irene's hands close around it, regaining it back to Pecari! Kyler didn't waste his time on a cheer this time. Focus, kid. Focus. He kicked his broom up a notch, not sure how fast this thing dared go. But hey, he dared, so why not? Kyler brought his broom as close as he could to Irene's passing area. Should the need arise, he was there. And the need did arise. The red ball was coming towards him. Towards him! Kyler's brown eyes widened and he sped up. The pass was falling short! No! Kyler dropped a foot in the air, zooming forward to allow his fingers to act as a safety net for the Quaffle. He had it! He grinned up at his teammate and returned to playing height. Everything Kyler learned at practice was coming back to him. Awesome. This game was going to be good. He could feel it.

Kyler raced forward. Irene's burst of speed had brought them close to the opposing end. Now they were closer than he would have liked to be when the Quaffle was in his possession, but he'd do what he had to do. This wasn't practice. This was The Game. THE Game. Kyler looked around for his teammates and bludgers, before his eyes fell upon the hoops. Time to give it to the experts. Kyler let out a shout to the nearest chaser and, remembering the technique from practice, passed the ball to the brown uniform.

Dalila, Chaser

February 03, 2009 11:54 PM
Dalila narrowed her eyes as the ball was taken away from her chaser. She zoomed across the field watching the ball's progress as it zoomed from yellow to brown to yellow to a couple other browns. And then her moment came again. The Pecaris had a new chaser: the second year, whose name she had no clue. He made the rookie mistake of calling out for a teammate. Did he not realize that Teppenpaws could hear him too?

She put on a burst of speed and intercepted the quaffle right before it reached the Pecari chasers' hands. Without slowing down at all she whipped around and raced towards the Pecari goals. Through her peripheral vision, she couldn't see either of her fellow chasers and began to get worried. Were they behind her? They were somewhere. There was no hiss from the crowd indicating anyone getting seriously injured by a bludger. Instead of passing, like she should have, Dalila got frustrated that they hadn't even gotten near the goal. She took it upon herself to make it to the goals.

She had managed to dodge bludgers and other players and make it to the opposite end of the field. There were too many obstacles to stop and aim. She'd have to do it on the fly. With barely a thought to avoiding the goal herself, Dalila threw the ball as hard as she could toward the left hoop just as her broom clipped the hoop sending Dalila spiraling a few times. She stopped short, feeling a little dizzy and not being able to tell if the quaffle made it into the hoop.

Raoul, Pecari Keeper

February 04, 2009 9:46 PM
Raoul had been very nervous for his first official game. After all last year he had sat out the whole time. Saul was doing a good job at coaching him on his duties as keeper, but he wasn’t sure he could really do it. After all, he had never been good at gym at his muggle school. Perhaps he wouldn’t be so good here?

The French boy ran his hands through his sandy hair. His muddy brown Pecari robes hung on him awkwardly, just slightly too big. After all, he had an unusually small frame for his age. Raoul had noticed that a lot of boys at this school were short. He wasn’t short, per se, just very, very tiny around. Lanky is what his mother liked to say, however he was sure lanky meant you had to be extra tall, which he was not. Oh well, however you would describe Raoul, pale was one adjective you could put on him. His face had bleached from nerves. He hoped that Holly was out there watching him. He waved at the Pecari stands in case she was there.

Saul gave them a rather short speech before the game began. Raoul took his spot at the goals and he never got any relief. Just as he was sure the quaffle was on its way to him, someone would grab it and go another way. It was completely nerve-wracking! “Mon Dieu!” He hissed after it had, yet again, found its way coming to him. By now Raoul was confident his team would take it back again.

However they didn’t. It was coming at him. Raoul froze, terrified of missing the ball. He didn’t know which direction to go to catch it. He felt all eyes on him, even if perhaps a few weren’t, his entire body feeling numb.

Then, out of no where, he was calm. It was like he knew what to do all along. Taking in a deep breath, he swooped to the left. His fingers grazed the edge of the ball just barely tipping it out of the way. Breathing a sigh of relief, Raoul grabbed the ball and passed it to the nearest brown guy. One down, a whole game to go.

Saul Pierce

February 05, 2009 10:23 AM
As Saul chased Dalila back towards the Pecari side of the Pitch, he experienced one of the few moments when he wished he had a better broom than what the school could supply. No matter how hard he pushed his school broom, he couldn't catch up to the Teppenpaw captain.

Approaching the goals, it became increasingly obvious she was going to take the shot herself. Unable to get between her and the hoops, Saul trusted to his new Keeper and set himself up for getting the ball once it had been deflected. He didn't allow himself to doubt that Raoul would get it, in case that jinxed it.

When the third year did knock the ball out of the way, Saul whooped. "Yeah, Raoul!" And then Quaffle was tossed his way. Saul caught it up and sped back as fast as his broom could take him in the other direction. Raoul had proven he could defend the Pecari goals. It was Teppenpaw's Keeper's turn to do the same.

The three Tepp Chasers had shown they were adept at interfering with passes, so when a bludger came too close for comfort, Saul just hugged the ball to his chest, barrel rolled out of the way, and kept going. Reaching a reasonable shooting distance, he didn't have a good shot.

Irene looked to be a slightly better position, but if . . . yeah. "Irene!" he called out, and made as if to pass to her. But instead of hurling the Quaffle toward his teammate, he abruptly shot upward and launched the ball toward the left most hoop, which was the one furthest from Irene. He threw almost blindly, since he had to throw in the opposite direction to the way he'd been faking a pass and he hadn't dared give away his plan until the Quaffle was about to leave his hands.

He held his breathe as the red ball flew toward its goal, not completely sure whether his throw was even on target (from this angle, it looked as though it might hit the rim but he'd give even money for whether it would bounce away or through), never mind whether the Teppenpaw Keeper had seen through his ruse.

Meredith Lail, Pecari Beater

February 06, 2009 1:43 PM
Meredith couldn't remember feeling so nervous and excited at the same time for anything before. Sure, both were common before a game or any big event, but this degree wasn't normal for her. Maybe she feared her arm and leg weren't quite up to par yet and she might let her friends down. But she had been working on it all summer and she did well at practice when school began again. She kept the sports brace on her knee and elbow below her Quidditch robe all the same. She probably could have done with another hour of sleep, but once she was awake, she was up for good. Nerves, which she would wholeheartedly declare were jitters of excitement, would keep her attention on the game.

Sated and ready, Mere joined her teammates at the Pitch with her bat in one hand and her broom over her shoulder, bouncing in her sneakers and eager to begin. The weather was perfect and the air was calling her name. The breeze helped ease her mind. In fact, just being with her friends without a care in the world apart from this match helped her. Pecari had an amazing team put together. They could crush anyone and they would. She kept that thought in her head to fuel her excitement more than her slightly twisted arm and leg fueled her anxiety. When it was finally time to start, Mere was quick to mount and take off. Her eyes were on the bludgers more than the quaffle and chasers though she did see Saul snatch the quaffle away first thing. She wasn't anxious to feel a metal ball strike her unawares, which meant she needed to find them.

Blue eyes skimmed the Pitch for the bludgers and the action of the game. And there were her main targets. One was on the farther side of her circling, the other was heading straight for her as if seeking her out as the most vulnerable player. As it came at her, the intensity of the match made her arm twinge in anticipation of possible but unlikely pain and she switched the bat to her right arm. Was she that scared? It was too late then. Mere compensated for the new position with her broom and then slammed the bludger towards the Teppenpaw Chaser who intercepted Saul's pass. It looked like a good shot, but it was a little rushed and the jitters hadn't completely quelled. The chaser managed to dodge the bludger that wizzed by and Mere snapped her fingers.

Oh well. There would be plenty more opportunities to knock someone off a broom that day and Caedence would be helping her out.

As she relaxed a little more with the game well underway, she was able to coax herself into watching the game closer and watching the bludgers. She kept an eye out for Elly and the Teppenpaw seeker who might need to be slowed down. She aimed a bludger at Dalila as she went for the Pecari goals and cheered for Raoul as he made the save and passed the Quaffle back to Saul who immediately zoomed down the length of the Pitch. Mere searched for another wild bludger she could take a crack at to help Saul out, but none were near enough to her, too busy aiming themselves without discrimination. She finaly targeted one and flew towards it, tailing it with enough distance that it still ignored her, but she could hit a burst of speed to reach it and aim.

Saul called out to Irene as he had for his other passes that ended up intercepted. Mere thought she might be able to help. She didn't doubt the Teppenpaws would go to block Irene and a bludger would be waiting for the most bothersome chaser. Mere hurried before her watched bludger became too antsy and a satisfying crack was let out as her bat struck the metal that now made its way towards yet another opposing chaser. She bit her lip as she watched it go.

Dalila, Chaser

February 08, 2009 12:17 AM
Dalila spun around as fast as she possibly could to see if the quaffle made its target, but before she set her eyes on the prize, the crowd told her the answer: cheering Pecaris and booing Teppenpaws. Dalila sighed heavily and scanned the skies for the red orb again. With all this back and forth, you'd think someone would've made a goal by now.

She just saw the flash of red surrounded in Pecari brown and Wham!

Dalila spun in a full circle before dropping down five feet. The pain in her lower leg was sharp. She pushed aside her robes to find a giant bruise already forming on her swollen ankle. She sucked in a breath as tears stung in her eyes. This wasn't good. She took another deep breath and tried to ignore the pain. She could go to the medic when the game ended. At least Quidditch was a game that didn't require walking. Dalila turned her attention back to the game, trying to ignore the stabbing pain that emitted from her ankle every few seconds.

Josiah- Tepp Keeper

February 08, 2009 9:53 PM
Josiah’s stomach growled as he pulled his canary robes over his head. He had little to eat that morning, due to nerves. His teenage stomach needed more than a few pieces of toast to satisfy it. However, the young redhead’s mind said otherwise as thoughts of victory matched with failure swirled around the spots normally reserved for his “I need food” department. So now, regretting his lack of a proper meal, Josiah finished getting ready and listened to Dalilah’s speech. When it was time, Josiah made his way to the goal posts.

The first part of the game started off as a real nail biter. The quaffle passed from brown to yellow to brown back to yellow again. It was almost like watching the muggle sport of tennis. No one was getting to the goals at all. It seemed that for a while there would be a stalemate.

However, Josiah was dead wrong. The new kid, Raymond or whatever his name was, the French one, blocked a pass at the goal. Josiah probably imagined it, but he felt that the kid was growing cocky about his lucky save. Come on! What kind of talent did that kid have? His fingers barely touched the ball for Merlin’s Sake! He passed the quaffle along to another Pecari and the ball was in play.

Josiah cursed his growling abdomen that threatened to cause him to lose focus. He kept an eye on the ball, not drifting too far to any goal in case of an attack. He half considered doing starfish and stick to guard all the posts, but the last time the redhead attempted that maneuver, he had nearly fallen off of his broom. Instead, he urged his sharpshooter to go a little faster in order to cause his pacing back and forth in front of the hoops to pick up speed.

Finally, he saw it heading for him, a blur of red spinning through the sky. Josiah stopped in front of the goal post it headed towards. He smacked it out of the air, effectively blocking the golden hoop from the ball. However, Josiah wasn’t able to get the ball back in hand. It went spinning back in play towards the ground. He hoped for a Teppenpaw to catch it. His hopes plummeted when he saw Dalilah injured by the other Pecari beater. He cursed softly and waited to see what would happen next.

Caedence- Pec Beater

February 08, 2009 10:10 PM
There were many who would claim that a girl who spent her quidditch career in a medic’s tent shouldn’t go near bludgers. They would think if she had any brains at all she would stay away from them. No one would recommend to a girl who’s arm had been broken twice, broom busted, leg bruised, back severely bruised and who knows what intelligence destroyed by bumps to the head to go after bludgers. In fact, many of these people remember her tactic of chasing bludgers where her teammates, captains, the opposing team, and even Fox, Wolfe and the spectators thought she was mental and touched in the head. However, this girl now wore her brown robes, beaters gloves, and carried a thick bat to the pitch along with her broom. No chasers gloves could be found on her.

No, Caedence Redoak did what everyone told her it would be wise not to do. She became a beater.

It seemed like madness to most people, but to the young blonde girl with the sharp braid and piercing eyes it made perfect sense. Some would say it was a good way to take out her temper on things that wouldn’t bruise. Caedence just found the danger of the situation and the violence it could bring too much to pass up. She had loved the position of beater for forever and had waited with baited breath until her captains retired so she could fill it.

Now she walked down to the pitch, braid intertwined with brown and yellow ribbon, ready to take her new position in a real game. She had decided that it would be her job to go after the seeker. If Meredith decided to as well, then Caedence would switch to the chasers. She knew darn good and well that trying to take out beaters was the most stupid thing anyone could do. The blonde learned that the hard way.

As soon as she got into position, after hearing Saul’s brief pep talk, Caedence listened to Coach Fox‘s speech. Protesting slightly at the accusation of her even daring to harm viewers (she wound only do it if they really gave her a reason to), Caedence turned her attention to the balls being released into play. Years of training caused her to keep zoned into where the quaffle was in the situation, and she had to fight to not go after it when it was finally released. Instead she pretended like the bludgers were red and determined to go after them.

Caedence paid little attention to the position of the quaffle. She let out a little moan of disappointment when the perverted redhead blocked the quaffle. However, Meredith’s attack of the chaser caused Caedence to give out a little whoop of joy. An angry sound of a metallic whoosh that Caedence knew all too well came towards her. However, despite her instinct to dodge, which was faulty anyway, Caedence turned towards the bludger. Taking careful aim, she felt the jarring feeling in her elbows that had become familiar to her in practice. The cruel metal ball was on a path towards Hannah. Caedence smiled triumphantly. See? She could handle a bludger and not get hurt!

Saul Pierce

February 10, 2009 2:38 PM
Saul grimaced slightly as Josiah wasn't fooled and got there in time to block the shot. He didn't have time to be disappointed, though, because the Quaffle was tumbling down toward the ground in the possession of no one.

Saul dove.

He didn't really like the sensation of intentional falling. It reminded him too much of his first year when - or so he'd believed at the time - he'd nearly died after getting knocked off his broom by a bludger. There was still an exhilarating thrill to it, though, and his residual fear of falling only made it that much more exciting.

He whooped as he caught up to the Quaffle and yanked the handle of his broom upward, pulling him out of the dive still twenty or thirty feet above the ground. He drove straight upwards, going faster on his broom than gravity would allow a ball thrown in the same direction to go.

Spotting one of his Chasers, he shifted his direction only marginally and as he flew up past the brown robed figure, he tossed the Quaffle at his teammate, hoping that the relatively short distance would prevent another interception.

Kyler Kent, Pecari Chaser

February 10, 2009 5:41 PM
Kyler let out a frustrated groan as the Quaffle was blocked from the hoop. No one told him how monumentally stressful the game would be from the air. It hadn’t been that bad when he was watching from the stands, but this was driving him crazy! The eight-hundred thousand sixty-two pairs of eyes staring in at him from every angle were making it much more difficult to play the game. Kyler’s own brown eyes watched as the Quaffle began its decent. He acted on instinct, sucking in air and gripping his broom, shooting forward into the Quaffle’s zone. At the same moment, however, he saw Saul, who was all over this opportunity. Kyler felt an odd mix of relief and disappointment at his captain going for the save. He best leave the recovery to the older, more skilled, bigger, faster, stronger player.

Kyler stuck by, ready for whatever may be coming his way. His hands were prepared to jump up and grab hold of the Quaffle should it come his—Speak of the devil. Kyler snatched the Quaffle from the air and tucked it into his side, protecting it from the blue-clad predators. He pulled his broom against gravity, ascending to playing height. He looked left and right, checking for those horribly pesky Bludgers.

Kyler’s eyes found the hoops, hovering tauntingly ahead of him. Doubt flooded every crevice of his mind as he drew closer and closer to the shot he didn’t want to take. Up ahead of him, Kyler spotted an angel in a brown uniform. Kyler reminded himself again of proper passing techniques and sent the Quaffle on its way.

Irene Liddowe, Pecari Chaser

February 10, 2009 6:16 PM
Irene grinned to herself as Kyler got hold of the Quaffle. That kid could be a real team player when he wanted to be and right now, they needed him to be! Irene wanted the kid to feel confident, but it didn’t seem like he was necessarily grasping that concept, which was odd. Normally Kiddo was all grins and winks. Nevertheless, Irene kept close, hoping to be near in case a bludger came too near. Those things had a way of destroying perfectly good plays. The fourth-year girl rose to playing height as Kyler did, flying forward in order to be in plain sight. Kyler spotted her and, with a decent pass, landed the Quaffle in her clutches. For being so insecure at the moment, Kyler’s execution wasn’t too bad.

Irene tucked the Quaffle under her arm and put on a burst of speed. Flying forward to the opposing hoops, she turned sideways, paralleling the three hoops. She raised her arm as she reached the first hoop, looking as if she was going to turn at the moment and strike. Her plan, however was put into action at the middle hoop. Turning her body from facing the first hoop, Irene was now facing the last hoop. She hurled the Quaffle at the hoop, praying to God that the trick had worked. Josiah was a great kid, but Pecari had to win this one. They had put in way way too many early-morning to late-night practices, blood, sweat, and tears to fall behind to a team with only two Chasers.

Irene turned away, closing her eyes for the briefest of moments, relying on the crowd to give her the news. She looked up, her blue-green eyes finding Kyler and giving him a thumbs up. The kid was doing okay. Maybe if the play turned out well he would get a little bit of confidence.

Amber Carey, Teppenpaw Beater

February 10, 2009 7:23 PM
Because Amber was a half-blood and a North Carolina Carey, anyway, there were no real consequences for playing on the House Quidditch team, but neither had there been any signs of support. Her father and Morgaine hadn't really been the surprise of the century - one had politics and the other a long history of personal animosity to consider - but she'd expected Gwen to at least be quietly supportive. Gwen had, after all, once been a Beater herself. Instead, her cousin had blithely informed her she was sitting with the Pecaris for the game at breakfast.

Somehow, Amber doubted her decision had much to do with the current political climate. Just a hunch, though one the way Gwen had glanced across the Hall supported very nicely.

She was somewhat disappointed, but figured the situation at hand could have been much worse and proceeded as planned in getting ready for the big game. Somehow, without the Craven twins as its captains and Beaters, the Pecari team came off as less intimiating than she had heard it should. The game, from what little she knew about it, seemed less serious now that most of the big names in it were gone.

Both fortunately and unfortunately for her, she was sharing a position with one of the remaining big names: Lexi. There was always talk of Anne Wright, but if Amber had been given no choice but to pick which one of them she wanted to fight with, she would have picked Anne. Lexi intimidated her much more. She hoped the effect was to make her a better Beater, especially since she was on Seeker-duty.

The whistling sound of the Bludgers had become familiar to her in practice, and she stayed on the alert for it as the game progressed. Unfortunately, Pecari kept control of the Bludgers, though they did not seem to be doing much damage to Teppenpaw. That was a good thing.

They certainly tried their best, though. Caedence Redoak - one of the more infamous members of Amber's year, both for her long-ago scrape with Morgaine and for her many run-ins with Bludgers as a Chaser for Pecari - had managed to snag a Beater's position, and instead of getting beaten up by a Bludger, she was trying to remove Hannah for the game.

Amazed, in the back of her mind, at her own nerve, Amber put herself between Hannah and the Bludger and hit it in Elly's direction. If Pecari's Seeker was taken out, even for a little while, it would increase Hannah's chance of finding and catching the Snitch and winning the game.

Elly Eriksson, Pecari Seeker

February 11, 2009 3:44 PM
Although she wasn't paying a great deal of attention to the game, Elly thought it must be quite dull; the crowd were being especially quiet. That was particularly unusual, considering Pecari were playing. Their spectators had a tendency to be somewhat rambunctuous. Elly felt a little sorry for them, because it wasn't the most pleasant weather for sitting outside and spectating. She only wished she could give them something more to watch. Unfortunately, she hadn't yet seen the Snitch, and, judging by Hannah's behaviour, neither had the other team's Seeker.

There had been the usual glimmer in the stands of jewellery, masquerading poorly as Snitches, but Elly was by now well practised at ignoring these temptations. Then again, there was a particularly stubborn glint out of the corner of her eye, and, although past experience would prove it was yet another false alarm, Elly turned instinctively to view it more effectively.

She couldn't be sure. She wasn't going to pass up a potential Snitch, even if it could be a writswatch - it might costs her the game either way, but there was only one way to be sure. So without halting her flight or even altereing her speed, Elly pulled her broom to the right, looping down to circle under the game, and bringing her closer to the stands. Not once did she take her eye of that tiny golden glint, and, to her surprise and delight, her vigilance was rewarded when the glimmer darted forwards in a very Snitch-like manner.

A sighting made, Elly was aware that she couldn't draw closer suddenly without alerting Hannah, and the other Seeker was closer right now. Hoping a feign would help her out - it had done in the past - Elly angled her broom sharply upwards and shot high, heading for Hannah and passing the Snitch, though trying her best to keep it in her vision. There came a point when Elly simply had to look forward again to avoid breaking her neck, and that's when she saw Amber intercept a Bludger that was on course for Hannah, and realised that she was now the target.

It took Elly only a split-second to make the decision. If she carried on with her fake-out, she might lose sight of the Snitch, and would almost certainly get hit by that Bludger heading her way at worrying speed. Yet if she turned now and tried to catch the Snitch, she might just get there before Hannah. Possibly.

Choosing the plan with the least chance of failure, Elly turned her broom suddenly, jolting it harshly back in direction from whence she'd come. She could hear the Bludger whistling behind her, but she could see the Snitch. If she could just get to it first...

Elly, Pecari Seeker

February 21, 2009 9:39 AM
Very aware of the bludger whistling behind her, and the other Seeker possibly not at all far behind that, Elly hadn't realised that she was holding her breath as she flew the fastest she could towards that tiny Snitch. The fluttering ball darted a few yards to her right as Elly approached, so with her right arm flung out to the side, her left hand still clutching the broom to remain upright, Elly let out her breath in relief as her fingers finally closed around the golden ball.

But she didn't stop to celebrate; winning the game wouldn't feel so good if she had to spend the next week in the hospital wing. Withdrawing her right arm back against her chest, protecting the Snitch, Elly halued on her broom handle and abruptly turned direction, shooting right up in the air. The bludger carried its path onwards, and, finally out of harm's way, Elly thrust her fist into the air, letting everyone know that the game was over.

It was exhilirating; Pecari had won, and that meant a lot. It meant that the team could work without the Cravens. Elly had never doubted Saul as a captain, but this was proof they were still the best. With an ecstatic smile plastered to her face, Elly joined her teammates in the descent back to the ground.

Dalila, Chaser

February 25, 2009 12:21 AM
The sounds of a collective gasp, tore Dalila's eyes away from the quaffle and began searching the skies. That was when she saw the Pecari seeker - that loud, redheaded girl - raise her hand up in Victory. There was a moment of disbelief and then it hit her.

They lost. As those sensing her deflating esteem, her broom began sinking softly to the ground as Dalila continued to stare at the seeker in horror. She felt her feet brush the grass and winced. Her ankle felt broken, but now was not the time ot get it looked at.

Was it her fault? Of course it was; she's the captain. She should've prepared them better. What was Jake thinking, letting her take over. And she still kept up the occasional correspondence with him. He'll be so disappointed to know that they lost. She fought back the tears. When did she get so emotional?

"Hey everyone, don't feel bad. You guys did amazing!" she said once the rest of the team had huddled together again. "I'm super proud of you guys." She gave everyone a weak smile, but she didn't think a single person would believe it. Unless they were really, really stupid.

"Uh, I should probably get this looked at," she said when she couldn't think of any other words of encouragement. She held up her ankle and noticed it had taken on a lovely purplish hue. She gave one last smile and thumbs up before floating her broom over to the medic.

"Hey, Mr. Wolfe, can you work your magic on my ankle?"
