“Good morning, class. Today, we are going to begin discussing the impact of Transfiguration in regards to Defense Against the Dark Arts,” Erika began. With her Beginner and Intermediate classes, she always gave the students a few minutes to settle down and get ready, however, she expected more of her Advanced class. They were no longer children and as such, she treated them as adults with the maturity to start at precisely 10:15. For anyone that arrived late, she didn’t acknowledge. It was up to them to find out what the material they missed was, because she wasn’t about to pause. Life didn’t wait for anybody and it was something they should learn now.

“By now, all of you should have studied enough Transfiguration to know the basic rules and various branches of the subject. We are going to be looking further at Animagi transformation. This is a very difficult branch of magic where a wizard or witch is able to take on the form of an animal, often the same one as their patronus. While in this form, the wizard is completely aware of his behavior, which differs from werewolves where the person loses all control.” The idea that a person could lose all control like that was scary, especially when they were unaware of it, because it put their families and friends, as well as anyone else in vicinity, in extreme danger. Not to mention, there were those who enjoyed hunting werewolves for sport, which was an entirely new level of worrisome, both for those being hunted as well as those doing the hunting.

However, today’s talk was not on the book that could be written on the defense complexities involving werewolves. No, today was about animagi. “On the board, I have two pictures. One is an ordinary cat and the other is an animagus cat,” she stated. The ordinary cat was black and white with a pink nose and a michevious look upon its face. Other than that, there was nothing special about the cat. The other picture was also of a cat, but if one looked closely, they would see some unusual markings upon the tabby cat. “As everyone should have learned, we can tell the difference between the two cats by the markings, which often reflect something about the person.”

“However, this is not a lesson in Transfiguration. We are going to be having a debate. Please pick a side are you for or against animagi transformation? Think about the advantages and disadvantages this branch of magic has when it comes to defense. Who wants to start? You can use the pictures to support your defense or come up with examples of your own. Oh, and feel free to jump in when someone finishes if you think of something or question anything.” She pointed to one of the students to start.
