Advanced Level (Seventh Years): Lesson II
by Professor Levy
As her advanced class began to file into the room, Erika put the letter she had been reading away in her top desk drawer with an attempt to keep the frown off her face. The wedding plans were nowhere close to being finalized and there was only a little bit of time left. The invitations had come back from the printer’s and it was a disaster. The slightly off coloring was forgivable if they hadn’t listed her name as Erik instead of Erika. If they wanted to keep everything on time, they would have to send out the invitations as is, but if they wanted to get them changed, it could potentially cause everything else to be behind. They needed a solid guest count to finalize plans with the caterer and to do the seating chart.
Ah, well. She couldn’t worry about it right now. The brunette had a lesson to conduct. After all, some of the students were counting on her in order to pass their upcoming RATS. “Earlier this year, we had discussed how raw our magic is before coming to school and how we’re taught to focus it through our wand. Today, we’re going to discuss the second half of what happens. Again, the magic is very intense and potentially dangerous, which is why we learn how to channel the magic. Another device used is Incantations. These help to achieve a particular result we’re aiming for. It’s possible to perform a spell without an incantation though, which is called Incantationless magic.”
“Incantationless magic is very difficult to perform. Some of you may find it easier than wandless magic and some may find it harder. It all depends on the person. For myself, I always found it to be easier than wandless magic, because I still have the wand to channel my magic through,” she admitted to the class. “When you first start off learning Incantationless magic, it can help to silently mouth the incantation without actually saying it.” Hopefully, that tidbit would help them a bit in performing the spell since there was really no easy way to explain how to actually perform spells without the incantations. Maybe that’s why it was so difficult?
“All right, then. I want everyone to divide up into groups and work on reviewing spells, but try them without the incantations. If you feel like you have a handle on it, try performing both wandless and incantationless together. Okay, you may begin. If you have any questions, raise your hand and I’ll be over.” With that, she allowed the class to break off into groups while she pulled the letter back out of the drawer along with some parchment to write a return letter to her beloved. She hoped Torra wasn’t stressing out over everything nearly as much as she currently was.
