Anybody who really knew Emilia-Louise Scott would know that before anything, before even her love for fashion, she was so absolutely passionate about helping the less fortunate.
Emmy-Lou had always been keen to get involved in the work done by a range of organisations and show her support for charities in whatever way she could. Being a kid was no excuse for not helping. Anyone could do anything if it was really something they believed in and this was something she believed in.
Over the summer she had devoted a good amount of her time to volunteering as she had done for so many years prior. Ever since starting at Sonora she had aspired to show the school what they could do to make a difference to the lives of others. Now that she was a fourth year and had spent the previous term more-or-less successfully running Fashion Club, the Aladren thought it was time to put all of her plans into action. She had been planning numerous ways to bring charity work to the school for quite some time but now that she was older, Emmy-Lou finally felt that all students would actually listen and be happy with her taking the lead.
“Hello everyone,” Emmy smiled at the group that showed up for the first meeting, held in the Charms classroom which Professor Perrault had so kindly given her permission to do. She hadn’t been all that sure where to host it and one of the MARS rooms had been her initial idea, but since they didn’t actually require the specific services provided by said rooms it didn’t really seem fair to book one and prevent other students from using it during their meetings. Thus she had settled for a classroom and Charms seemed to fit, since it was a fairly basic room with plenty of desks and a nice teacher.
“Welcome to the Fundraising Committee. Our main aim is to raise money and awareness for a number of charities, which we will do by planning, organising and running several events throughout the year. I have a lot of experience in this so I’m very excited to be running this committee.” Emmy-Lou wasn’t trying to blow her own trumpet by briefly mentioning her experience in the fundraising area, but it was good for people to know that she knew what she was doing.
“One thing I would just like to say it that this isn’t like other clubs. We more or less need your full commitment once we actually start planning events and we’ll probably have different roles so you can’t really be a casual member of the committee.” The fourth year wasn’t sure how well this would go down but it was important if she wanted all events to run smoothly and be free of stress so that everyone could actually enjoy doing it.
“But don’t worry if you do want to take part in this to some degree but are unsure about making such a commitment as there are other ways you can get involved,” Emmy-Lou thought it important that everyone know this before making a definitive decision about whether or not they wanted to be in the actual Fundraising Committee. “Hopefully we will be collaborating with the other clubs in the schools for our events so if you are a part of those, you could get involved that way so you wouldn’t have to help with every single event that we do.”
Emmy-Lou smiled at the group of faces looking back at her. “Okay, now we have that out of the way, we can get on with the fun part. Throughout the year, we’ll get together to share any further ideas for new events but for now, let’s see what you’ve got.”
She picked up some chalk and stood by the blackboard so she could write ideas down for everyone to see as they were contributed.
“I already have a lot of ideas, and have tried to come up with things that we can do with the clubs on offer here, but don’t worry if yours don’t - we can always do some events ourselves,” Emmy-Lou told them, beginning to write a few of her thoughts own. “I’ve got bake sale, a fashion show… Come on guys, call some out - explain them if necessary.”
Emmy had plenty more ideas but there were some that she wished to hold onto for a little longer and she didn’t want to seem as though she was trying to run the whole show by herself. The thing about the Fundraising Committee was that she was encouraging others to share her passion. She had many charities that she supported and wanted to use for the events but she was also aware that it would be good to request input from the rest of the committee in that area too.
OOC: I apologize for being so late getting this up and am using fuzzytime as this first meeting would have taken place in the first week of term.
Being the joiner that she was brought Kit to Fundraising Committee. She wasn’t sure what she was expecting, but she wanted to give everything a try. It may have been for the fact that her mother scheduled all of her activities back home and she wasn’t able to choose the things that she actually wanted to do. So, here she found herself in the Charms room, awaiting the start of the meeting.
Once she heard what the Fundraising Committee was actually about, Kit was able to attain a better understanding of the purpose. Basically, it was like the stuff her mom was involved with. Various charity work was among the things that socialites did. She didn’t know the actual ones that her mother was involved with though since she was still considered too young to be involved in such things. She was sure though that she would be in the next couple years.
She liked the idea that they would be involved with other clubs since she wanted to be involved in everything. She was looking forward to what else the club founder was going to mention. She nodded at the mention of a Bake Sale and a Fashion Show. That sounded like a lot of fun. She wouldn’t be very good at the Bake Sale. She didn’t have a clue on how to make anything since the elves back home did all that. Maybe she could handle the money on that one or something. However, Fashion Show sounded more up her alley. She could definitely help others look amazing!
As for her own ideas, “We could have a Book Fair where people could sell their old books. Maybe even their textbooks so that students that will be taking the classes the next year could purchase them instead of having to buy them new.” She hadn’t had to worry about buying her books since her mother had purchased them all new, but she did know they were considered to be expensive.
While the details of Fundraising Committee were a little fuzzy, it definitely piqued Ayla’s interest. Back home in Palo Alto, her mother had was an active member in various different charity organizations including Witches Helping Witches, Daughters of Merlin, and Spaces for Spirits. Her family also gave frequently to Healers without Borders and the Bay Area Symphony. It always seemed like Rosalie Tremaine was off at some event or gala, and she made sure her children knew that giving back was an important part of their station in life. From what Ayla gathered about the group she was about to join, they'd be raising money. Be it for the school, or charities, the young witch wanted to be part of it. Fundraising Committee seemed like one of the clubs that her mother would really be proud of her for joining, and so she did.
Ayla was a little surprised that it was Emmy-Lou, Gwen’s pseudo-cousin and fashion icon, was the committee leader. She was excited though, because her participation was going to mean spending time with the older girl, and that was sure to be amazing. The Teppenpaw girl was also glad to see Kit in attendance. Any excuse to hang out with her friend was time well spent, not to mention charitable now.
She really liked the ideas the other members were presenting, and unlike with Spirit Club, she actually felt she had things she could contribute. “We could auction off lunch dates! I mean, the girls could arrange for a picnic lunch to be made, and then the boys bid on the baskets, and they win lunch with whoever’s basket they won. The money could go to a food shelter or something. On the flip side, we could do something similar where boys bring in a tie from home, the girls bid on the ties, and they get a date with whoever’s tie they won and the money goes to buying clothing for displaced house elves or something.” Ayla paused, and felt a little embarrassed that she'd only mentioned things that lead to spending one on one time with the opposite sex. “I mean, I do have other ideas that don't involve dates too…” She added, trailing off and turning her attention to the next person, hoping they'd add their ideas before she was pegged for being completely boycrazy.
