Advance lesson by Prof. Dakin

Rowan had not been sure how to approach the advance students as the previous professor had often taken the children to the winged horse ranch. So after many hours of searching for something she thought was advanced enough she finally found it. It took a couple of tries for the Headmistress to allow it but Rowan knew she could handle it; she had been a Dragon Keeper for ten years.

Finally she smiled at the small group of advance students. “Good afternoon.” She said with a smile. “I am Professor Dakin as you should know by now this is Care of Magical Creatures. Now please follow me.” She said as she opened a iron gate that she and a coupe of others had erected for the more dangerous animals.

She began speaking as they made their way into the gated area. “Now ladies and gents I’m sure you have studied hippogriffs, a cross between a horse and a griffin.” She smiled. “They have a gentle nature unless disrespected; now today we are studying griffins who become easily angered by the simplest things.”

Finally she stopped and said. “Please stay back, and try not to make sudden movements.” She walked back into the forest and came out with a griffin on a leash. “Now this is a teenaged griffin so he is a lot smaller then a full grown one, and he’s a bit friendlier. His name is Teddy, just allow him to sniff you and if he growls please back away slowly.” She hoped that Teddy wouldn’t growl at anyone but she was sure she could control him.

As she walked up to the students one by one she began talking. “Now Teddy here is half lion, and half eagle. They loved to be washed and rubbed down. They eat raw beef and often use the trees to trim their claws. Now some people keep them as pets but they must have a license and be ready for surprise inspections.” She paused. “They also need room to fly and if they do not fly for sometime they will become depressed and stopped eating. It’s a very sad thing to see.”

Finally she nodded no big mishaps had happened. “You can all now pet him gently please do not pull out his feathers I do not want to take any of you to the hospital wing.”

Awesome by Elly Eriksson

After six years of Professor K (aside from a few small periods with occasional subs while their profeesor was away having a baby and such like), it seemed quite strange to begin the year with an entirely new care of magical creatures Professor. Still, as much as she had liked kijewski, Elly was adaptable and was sure their next Professor would be equally as competent. In fact she seemed really nice. Plus she wasn't old and fuddy duddy like one of the subs had been. Elly liked her already.

The class got even better as Professor Dakin led them to a large fenced area - Elly knew there would be some magnificent creatures contained in there, and she wasn't disappointed. She'd read about griffins (of course she had, it was in their textbook) but had never seen one for real. She was mesmorized by Teddy and could wait to go over and say hello. Even if he did eat raw beef.

Elly wanted to be first in line to greet the griffin, so she was pleased to have been sitting in the right place. She stood up and took off the necklace Echo had given her a couple of years ago - she didn't want to distract the beast with shiny things. Elly had already taken off her unifrom robe - as she was by now accustomed to doing in CoMC classes - and was wearing an old pair of jeans and a red long-sleeved tee underneath that clashed with her orange curls. Griffins were colour-blind though, so hopefully Teddy wouldn't mind her lack of co-ordination. Carefully and gently, Elly walked towards the griffin. She held her palm outstretched for the creature to sniff. "Hello," Elly said, smiling. "I haven't got any food, I'm afraid, and I'm vegetarian, so you won't want to eat me." Ever so slowly, the redhead walked closer to the griffin, raising her hand to stroke his feathered head. "You're beautiful, aren't you," she told Teddy softly.

After she'd had her turn, Elly packed away again, beaming. Charms could be tricky, and Potions could be tiring, and Elly loved them both, but neither subject gave as big a thrill as tending magical creatures. If she could draw she'd have sat down and done a sketch of the griffin, but seeing as her talents in art were limited to stick men, Elly would content herself with the textbook's own illustration. Instead she stood nearby and watched others in the class take a closer look at Teddy. It was a lovely way to spend the class.
