OOC: I'm assuming since CoMC class is usually held outside, that there's some sort of office inside where she can find you. Also, I took the liberty of having you invite her in just to move things along a little more quickly. Hope that's not a problem. BIC:
Holly had seen the notice in the Pecari Common room and had instantly raised her as yet neutral opinion of the CoMC substitute. Ponies, particularly riding them in boring circles as was the standard for fairs, were very slightly beneath her, but it was the closest she'd get to a horse at Sorora until her fifth year, so she didn't even hesitate a moment before moving as quickly as was dignified to the Care of Magical Creatures teacher's office. A few steps, when her thoughts of being near an equine of any sort were particularly strong, may have even ventured into the realm of skipping.
She knocked on the door and entered after being invited to come inside. "I'm here about the fair booth," she told the substitute professor. Just in case he was unaware of who she was yet, she added, "I'm Holly Thistle-Greer." Though her name was, of course, legally Holly Greer, she used the hyphenated name often enough on her schoolwork that even the professors ought to associate the name Thistle with her.
"I'm great with horses," the twelve year old girl continued, eager to appear knowledgeable and still smarting slightly from Professor Kijewski's refusal to allow her to go to the Ranch with the fifth years. "I have a gorgeous mare named Wendy at home, and my friend Cecily has a pony named Heidi, and I'm sure she'd love to be part of the fair booth, too. Cecily, I mean. I doubt Heidi would care very much for it. I have equestrian awards for both jumping and dressage if you want to do a demonstration or anything like that, and Cecily can handle a pony very well, too."
Just in case that wasn't part of the plan and she was coming across as overqualified, she hurried to add, "But if it's just pony rides, I can brush and water and saddle and feed as well as anyone."
Although she hadn't intended on being more involved with the Fair than merely attending the event, Cecily's attitude was firmly swayed by the notice she saw in the Crotalus commons. She immediately envisaged spending the day with Holly, the two girls grooming the ponies all day. Perhaps some of them would be big enough to be ridden? After all, Cecily was a tiny girl, and Holly wan't a great deal bigger.
Without any delay, Cecily intended to find Holly and make her aware of the opportunity, if she didn't know already. Of course Holly was in Pecari, and Cecily didn't even know where their commons were, let alone know how to get in. So after a quick glance in the Hall, wherein Cecily was unsuccessful in spying Holly, she made her way to the Care of Magical Creatures professor's room, instead.
Although the door was slightly ajar when she arrived, Cecily could hear voices coming from within the room. Tip-toeing closer to the door, Cecily listened carefully to make sure she wouldn't be interrupting anything.
"...I can brush and water and saddle and feed as well as anyone," Cecily heard, and she knew that voice well. Without further hesitation, Cecily knocked on the door and poked her head around. She was right, Holly had already found the Professor.
"Hello," she said, smiling at Holly. Stepping further into the room, she turned her smile on Professor Fawcett. "Sorry to interrupt," she said, "but I'd love to help out with the ponies, too. Holly and both have horses at home. We can take care of everything."
John studied the two second-year girls over the tops of his glasses once Cecily finished, slightly thrown by both their confidence and their presence. Though he couldn't claim the strongest basis of fact for an opinion of either girl, they would have been far down the list of students he would have expected to be interested in assisting with the Fair booth. He could almost believe this was their idea of a joke.
"Thank you, Miss Smythe," he said. "Miss - Thistle-Greer." His roll distinctly said 'Greer', but calling her what she wanted to be called could do no harm. Perhaps the Thistles were a pureblood family she was somehow able to claim ties to. Not that he approved of that, either, but..."Your help at the Fair will certainly be welcome." John made a mental note to himself to ask about insurance later. The affair - to the best of his knowledge, anyway - wasn't likely to be dangerous, but it never hurt to be sure.
"I'm afraid this won't be as - fancy as what you describe," he added apologetically to Holly. "Perhaps you could put on a demonstration of the correct ways to mount and dismount?" Hopefully, that would take her mind off of jumping. Letting her do that seemed like a death trap just waiting to happen. "And you can both assist any of your classmates who have difficulties and with the animals themselves. Is that, ah, acceptable to you?" Hopefully, there would be more than just these two students interested. He wasn't sure just how much stamina twelve-year-olds had, and his understanding of the Fair was that it wasn't going to be brief.
Holly smiled in warm greeting as Cecily appeared and joined them. How perfect. Cecily was so much in tune with Holly's thoughts that Holly wouldn't even have to find Cecily later to tell her about the booth. She didn't have a chance to anything beyond a very basic 'Hello, Cecily,' before the substitute professor began to explain some of what they could expect to do for the booth.
Holly nodded along with him, slightly disappointed that she wouldn't get to do any jumping, but not particularly crushed since she preferred jumping with Wendy anyway. She wasn't sure she'd trust an unfamiliar horse with her best jumps.
"I can do that," she promised when offered the opportunity to demonstrate mounting and dismounting. "Are we using English saddles or Western? I learned to ride using English, but I can do either if we only have Western." Her slightly wrinkled nose and superior lift to her chin when she said Western, however, made it perfectly clear which was her preference.

It was a surprise the professor didn't reject the girls right from the off. Cecily knew she and Holly were more than capable, but adults, especially teachers, didn't usually understand things like that. Though as he explained they wouldn't be doing a great deal more than looking after the ponies and helping the other students, Cecily could appreciate the professor's easily acceptance of their offer of help. fter all, it was hardly taxing. That suited Cecily even better. Though she loved Heidi, she wasn't sure that properly taking care of ponies all day would be so much fun after an hour or so. This sounded much easier, and she nodded at the explanation.
Holly wanted to know more though, and was asking about sadles and things. Cecily didn't mind so much about saddles. She preferred riding side-saddle, because it was more ladylike, but other than that, riding was riding. Holly was more of an enthusiast - she had medals and everything. Cecily was probably going to be more interested in grooming the ponies, and riding them as much as she would be allowed. Actually, Professor fawcett hadn't mentioned anything about actually riding the ponies yet. That was something Cecily needed to clarify.
"It sounds great," she said, to answer his question. "But will we be able to ride the ponies? Or are they just for, um," - what was the word he'd used? - "interaction?"
