Hi - I was wondering if anybody could provide me with a brief explanation of what's going on with regards to external events in the muggle/wizarding world - the wiki briefly addresses the outing of the wizarding world, could somebody elaborate on that? Also, if somebody could give me an idea of how many in-game years have passed since, say, the closing of Salem, that would be just peachy.Thanks in advance!

The outing of the wizarding world was part of a plot which concluded with it being covered back up again. Therefore, the wizarding world still operates in secrecy as per the books.In real-world time, Salem closed in 2008. Given that Sonora has about three or four terms per year.... I'm sure there's someone who can give you the exact year.
Not much dramatic has happened in wizarding politics or large external events lately. We tend not to tie in with real events in the Muggle world as time passes more quickly at Sonora.
If your character is a pureblood, you may wish to familiarise yourself with WAIL and DISCUSS (on the wiki) and The Heritage Society (currently linked from a post by Francesca in the library).
