Quidditch Championship: A spectator's sport
by Jordanna Howard
There was a reason that Jordanna Howard- who hadn’t even shown up at her own house’s Quidditch game, and didn’t even like Quidditch that much, for that matter- could be found sporting canary yellow from her robes to the ribbon in her hair. These were Quidditch stands at the finals for Teppenpaw versus Pecari. It wasn’t really the game she was here for, though she might have looked attentive as she observed what a pretty shade of blue the sky was and what pretty dress robes it would make. The blonde Crotalus was here to make a point- Quidditch was better off left to boys, and girls were better off finding other hobbies.
It was okay that girls weren’t good at sports; there were other things to excel at, artistic things like music, painting, or dancing. There were academics to immerse one’s self in, if you so chose. You could involve yourself in the current news; know what’s going on in the world, from fashion to politics. A girl could even learn things like how to run a household (a hard thing by any standards) and everyday household chores. But sports were just dirty things that were best left to the cruder of the sexes.
And don’t worry if you thought her point was thoughtless or sexist- she had her proof. Crotalus, her own house, had lost because they had a girl captain and Teppenpaw had a guy captain. Aladren had lost because they had a girl captain, and Pecari had cocaptains representing both genders- but Ash Craven must obviously be responsible for why they had won. True Aladren had the most boys on the team, but having a female captain had obviously failed them. These were the major reasons why the teen who actually knew very little about the sport had decided the two teams in the championship had made it there in the first place. And now she wore yellow robes in support of Pecari- the team with the greater amount of male players. This team, she thought, would obviously win.
Daintily wiping away at a bead of sweat , disgusted at the heat of the day, she yelled with as much enthusiasm as she could muster (a respectable amount, considering she didn’t like the sport, but not much) she cheered, “Go Pecari!” \n\n

I think it's safe to assume, given the content of Jordanna's post, that she at least empathizes with WAIL's cause. While I appreciate that you are trying to get a good background for all involved characters, try to limit OOC posts on boards other than the OOC board to a minimum.
Echo was quickly becoming a fan of Quidditch. How could you not? The sport that involved flying brooms, three completely unpredictable factors, and, according to his favorite potions partner, occasional deathly drops!
He had never been too big on watching sports. But, then, he lived in nowheresville WY and Muggles didn't have anything like this anyway. The roar of the stadium. The flying. It was the flying -- zipping around 20 feet above the ground that did it for him. It was like you were right in the middle of it.
The thick of the crowd was where he wanted to be. Cheering, screaming, jumping up and down. He found a spot on the edges of all that good spectator action so he could cheer at least half as much as he wanted to, and then cheer precariously through the people in the middle.
Next year, maybe, next year he'd sign up for the team. Ole Shawnessy the aging cleansweep from the school brooms and him wouldn't do too bad.
Keeper. That was the position for them. He wasn't too bad at goalie in hockey or soccer, a little practice and he'd do alright. That, and the Keeper had little chance of getting run into, brushed aside, poked, prodded, and leaned into by other players. But if it weren't for that little hang up -- humiliation by public freak out caused by some crazy weirdo phobia -- he'd totally be a Chaser. No second thoughts. Next year he'd try out for the team.
No Chaser for him. And probably no Keeper either. Pecari already had a Keeper, and even with Keeper, public humiliation was not off the list of possibillities.
But it was still cool imagine. Maybe someday...
And it was time to cheer. He cupped his hands around his mouth and wailed, "Pecaaaaaaaaaaaariiiiiiiiiiiiiii!"\n\n
Leo wasn't usually a very vocal person; the shouting, cheering, screaming--he usually left that up to his twin--
"GO TEPPENPAW!" he yelled, hands cupped to his mouth, eyes following the yellow speck topped with a mess of dark brown that he recognized as his brother.
--Well, what were you expecting? He hadn't really been able to cheer at all at the Teppenpaw-Crotalus match; he hadn't even wanted to go, really. He had in the end, but whether it was to show support for his house or his twin, no one could really tell. He'd just sat there and watched, a shrewd but dispassionate expression on his face. He'd almost cheered when his twin caught the Quaffle and passed it along, but realized that that probably wasn't the brightest of ideas while sitting with his fellow Crotali, especially after the Tepp Seeker snagged the Snitch.
Now, though, he was free to show all his passion for the game. Next year, he thought, watching the figures whip around the pitch, maybe next year he'd try out. He'd only make reserve Seeker at best, he knew--Crotalus' Seeker was also their Captain, after all--but not flying for an entire year... it made him itchy, in a strange way. And oddly jealous. And a little superior when Crotalus' Seeker failed to catch the Snitch. Again--what were you expecting? This is Leo, after all.
"VIVA TEPPENPAW!" he shouted again, waving a yellow flag energetically.\n\n
Jennifer hadn’t been planning to attend the quidditch championship game. In fact, if she never had to step on the pitch again, that would be fine by her. Perhaps she was being a bit melodramatic, but…she obviously wasn’t meant to be a captain. First she barely managed to get a team, then, despite her team playing well, she caused their losses. While she’d always thought that she had some skill at seeking, obviously she wasn’t good enough. And by being captain, she was just depriving someone else who potentially could manage to beat another seeker to the snitch of that spot. She’d been pondering resigning for weeks now, and watching her friends wasn’t going to help matters any.
So she’d decided to spend the day of the match taking advantage of the quiet to begin working on review for the final exams. That at least she could do fairly well, at least. And this way she wouldn’t have to decide whether she was going to support Teppenpaw or Pecari. All in all, it was a well thought out plan, and she was proud of it.
That was, until about five minutes before the game started, and she realized the potential consequences of her actions. Lizzie, at the very least, and quite possibly Jake and Stephen (perhaps the Craven twins as well, but she still didn’t know them well enough to think they’d care about her presence), were going to be out for her blood if she missed the biggest game of the year. And that would only lead to questionings about why she hadn’t come, which would lead to her confession about resigning, which would lead to….bad things.
So she raced back to the commons to put away her books, made sure to change into neutral colors, since she still didn’t want to have that particular nightmare, and headed out to the pitch. By the time she got there, though, and had pushed her way to the very front of the bleachers, it appeared that however long she’d missed had contained rather critical events, if Lizzie and Jake’s closeness was anything to go by. A hint of what could possibly be jealousy struck her, but then she forced it back down (still without acknowledging what its presence meant) when she realized that the situation couldn’t be anything like what first glance had indicated. There was another Teppenpaw there, supporting her. And, even thought it was hard to tell with them so high up, it didn’t look like Lizzie was responding much.
“What the hell happened?” she demanded from the unfortunate person standing next to her, subject to a confused hormonal teenage girl. Jennifer didn’t wait for an answer, though, before turning back up to the scene playing out above. “Lizzie, come on,” she whispered fervently, clutching the guardrail in front of her so tightly that her knuckles went white. “Please, please be alright. Please.” \n\n

The morning of the championship found Ben awake in the library exceedingly early, pacing a path between bookshelves. Why was he so wound up? Lex could take care of herself in a game, and plus she was a beater- they never got hurt and had a defensive weapon. So worrying about her safety was not a concern of Ben's. It had to be the competition the two had going that fueled his slight anxiety, otherwise, why should be have these annoying thoughts? Ben tried to brush his thoughts away as he exited the library. He was, however, still contemplating competitive things as he made his way to and finished breakfast.
So later in the morning, Ben was seated in the quidditch stands early, earlier than most of the cheering crowd at least. The main goal of this was to ensure that he would have a good seat and a good view of the action going on in the game. His own twin sister Lexi was in the Championship round, afterall.
He was proud of her, he really was. Was it a painful taste to shallow his pride and congratulate her in succeeding where his team had failed? Yes, indoubtedly so. Did that make him any less supportive of his fiery redhead, no matter how much it irked him? Absolutely not. When it came right down to it, he would always be on Lexi's team. That is why whenever she got a good hit, Ben was on his feet cheering and yelling, his yellow pennant-shaped banner waving in the heat.
"Go Lexi!" he shouted right before it seemed, all hell broke loose. Lex's hit was good and hard, seeming breaking the Pecari Chaser's arm. Secretly Ben grinned, a small amount of satisfaction at his sister injuring one of his most recent rival team's chasers. He watched as the next shot Lexi got went careening towards another of the Chasers. With a pre-emptive wince, Ben watched as the dark haired girl recieved the brunt of the bludger's force. Ouch, he thought to himself with a twinge of pain for his twin as the fourth year began to fall and was subsequently caught, That can't be good for Lex... She'd never mean to hurt someone that badly...
Ben's thought was interrupted by the girl next to him, someone he recognized as Jen Zucchero, the Crotalus Captain. A few years back Aladren'd played Crotalus, but on the whole Ben thought that the house was okay... even though some highly conservatives were against girls like Lexi playing quidditch... He sighed, however, and bit his lip before turning towards the distraught 4th year and replying.
"It looks pretty bad... Lexi, a Tepp beater just whaupped that Chaser up there, Lizzie Lavine, I think. Anyway, the girl nearly fell off her broom before Idoya and Santoro got there..." He looked up at Jen and said tentatively, "I think she'll be okay... The Medic's here at least." \n\n

Suddenly things don't seem so bright...
by Meredith Lail
There was no way some stupid hot weather was going to ruin any quidditch experience for Meredith Lail. No sir. She threw on a gold yellow tank top and brown shorts to show her house pride, choosing wisely to just carry her school robes. She spent no time in front of the mirror, simply grabbing a hair tie and throwing her short hair up in a messy little ponytail before running down to get some breakfast before the game. She knew she ought to wait up for Elly and Echo, but decided she’d just save seats when she got to the pitch. Meredith wanted to get to the pitch quickly since the game was pretty early. She wasn’t sure how much chatting would actually be done during the game anyway. When Meredith was watching a game of quidditch, it was hard to pull her attention away.
As soon as she stepped outside, she could feel the warmth, but ignored it. She was too excited to worry. Pecari had won their first match against Aladren and she couldn’t wait to see her team crush the Teppenpaws too. She had nothing against the people on that team or even in the house, but when it came to quidditch, Meredith had a one-track mind. Her team had to win. Taking a seat in the middle of the stands, Meredith’s feet bobbed with anticipation of the final match. She had gotten there a little early, but minutes later the majority of the student body entered the stands to join her for the championship match. She had watched the captains pretty carefully in the last game and the beaters from the other teams as well seeing if she might pick up some things from them on how they played. Meredith was a beater through and through, though at home she played chaser sometimes. She was accurate with her aim, which was key for both of those positions.
After what seemed like an eternity of the coach going over rules and the like, the game started. Meredith’s grin was plastered to her face as she watched the players in the air. She wanted to be up there with them so badly rather than just cheering her team on, but cheer she did and loudly. Her throat would be soar later, but it would be worth it when her team took the win.
Caedence, Meredith noticed, was fierce in the air. Bludgers seemed to have a strong like (or dislike perhaps) for her. She seemed to be doing okay until a bludger hit by an equally fierce Teppenpaw beater slammed into her arm. That had to hurt, and yet Caedence kept going. Meredith winced, almost feeling the pain too, but had to admire her determination to get the quaffle to a goal. The throw was pretty lousy, but Meredith couldn’t blame her. That arm had to be in more than one piece now. The game seemed to pause as the medic, coach, and Ash Craven spoke, but it didn’t pause for long. That Teppenpaw beater wasn’t through and hit another bludger into a second Pecari chaser.
Meredith jumped up from her seat with a loud “Oi!” at the sight of the ball hitting Liz’s head. She had seen incidents like that before and it never ended well for the victim. Unsurprisingly Liz was knocked out cold from the hit. Two players from the other team helped her down. Meredith found herself upset that there wasn’t even a little break to help Caedence out and then in the distraction, Liz was hurt too. But Meredith understood that people were hurt often in a quidditch game. The frustration was really because now her team was down two chasers. What were they supposed to do? Meredith would’ve gladly stepped in for one of them even if chaser wasn’t her strongest point.
“Lousy cheap shot.” Meredith grumbled with a frown as she slumped back in the seat, but her eyes never left the game. She really hoped Caedence and Liz were okay. It was probably the first time anyone at Sonora had seen Meredith Lail really annoyed.\n\n

This had been Dillon's first year not on the Teppenpaw Quidditch team. He missed it. Quidditch had replaced Soccer for him. It was the one thing he actually did in a social function. But...he really needed to focus on other aspects of his life. And, now that he was sitting here in the stands, watching the game, Dillon was rather happy with his choice. This game was brutal.
Having been so engrossed at the game, Dillon failed to notice those whom he was sitting next to until the kid beside him shouted outloud. Dillon jumped in his seat and turned to look at the kid in what seemed to be a surprised look upon his face. He looked exactly like Gil. Dillon blinked and then turned away. It had only taken him a moment to realize that this kid was Gil's twin. Dillon, being a twin himself, ought to feel ashamed for having such an obvious answer take so long to be worked out.
But, with his attention back on the game, Dillon wished he had continued to stare at the kid beside him. Crack of bone, one girl out. Crack on head, Lizzie out. Dillon's jaw hung open. There was no way that Lexi was the one hitting those bludgers. Lexi...little Lexi...a tepp...they weren't so full of violence as to take out two members of the opposing team...right?
Dillon just...he just couldn't get over it. And, it just make Dillon all the more happier that he was safe on the ground...and in the same house as Lexi. Though, he would have great sympathy for her once the Cravens decide to get back at her. Let's hope the doctor decided to stick around. Not that it looked like he had much choice.\n\n
"C'mon, Earl! We're gonna be late!" Eavan dragged Earl by his wrist onto the pitch. They were both wearing t-shirts and shorts, though Earl's shirt was white with the Adidas symbol on it and Eavan was wearing a bright yellow shirt with the word 'Teppenpaw' written across the back thanks to Earl's handy spellwork and a book they had found in the library.
"Why do I have to go?" Earl huffed at Eavan's enthusiasm for the Championship. He was still very put off at the fact that his little sister's house has beaten his team for a place in this game.
"Because my team is playing and you love me, right?" Earl grumbled under his breath, but didn't deny the fact. So they found a place in the stands, with Eavan staring at the sky with anticipation and Earl looking rather moody and waving his wand like a fan and making it emit little puffs of cold air.
The players flew into the air and all around cheers went up for each team. Somewhere nearby, Eavan heard a slightly familiar voice yell out "Go Teppenpaw" but she couldn't tell who it was or where it came from. A few minutes late, she heard the same voice again yell out "Viva Teppenpaw!" This time there was no denying who it was: the boy sitting right in front of Earl waving a yellow flag. For a moment Eavan stared at the back of the boy's head in confusion; Gil was on the field...then realizaion dawned and with a smile she leaned over a scowling Earl and tapped on Leo's shoulder.
"Hey! Leo, right? I'm Eavan Valentine, Gil's friend. You a Quidditch fan or are you just here for Gil?" She thought for a moment and then added, "And this is my brother, Earl. He's in your house I think. Right, Earl?" Earl glanced at Leo and nodded, but gave no other indication that anything other than his mood was of interest to him.\n\n
0Eavan and Earl ValentineYou bet!0Eavan and Earl Valentine05
"VIVA TEPPENPAW!" Leo shouted, hands cupped to his mouth so that the yellow flag flapped in his vision, obscuring the entire right side of the field. His cheeks were flushed a little, though it wasn't easily visible with his dark complexion; it wasn't from the heat, either. He loved Quidditch. Really, really, really he did. He couldn't wait until this summer--Joaquin had promised to continue giving Leo lessons in Seeking, and there were at least three scouts from professional Quidditch teams out there who'd been sorely disappointed when Joaquin chose Peruvian dragons over Snitches as a career.
Suddenly there was a crack; one of the Pecari players had been hit, and hard from the sound of it. Stupid girl still tried for a goal when passing to an uninjured player would have been much smarter. Pecaris... Leo shook his head. Never thought ahead at all--if they used their brains at all, which was honestly doubtful.
He was distracted when someone tapped him on the shoulder. He stiffened--physical contact, unless he was the one initiating it, wasn't high on Leo's list of Things I Like (which was rather short, anyway, consisting mostly of Quidditch, his siblings, a few choice cousins, and his piano)--and turned. A girl dressed all in yellow was looking at him, and for a moment he wondered what he'd done wrong; then she smiled and started talking.
A small smirk threatened to overtake his mouth as she announced her name. So Gil's girlfriend had come to see him fly, had she? That was definitely something loverboy wouldn't want the cousins knowing... and much as he loved his brother, Leo knew it was only smart to have as much blackmail material as possible.
"Yes; it's nice to meet you finally, Eavan," he said, offering his hand couthly. "And I'm here to cheer on Gil. Since he insisted on beating my house, he might as well take the championship," he said with an expression closest to a smile he gave anyone who wasn't Gil, Mercedes, or Gray. "And hello, Earl."\n\n

Eavan saw out of the corner of her eye, one right after the other, two of the Pecari chasers taken out by bludgers. Eavan gasped along with the rest of the crowd, but when she saw them being taken care of by the medic and the game come to a screeching halt, she felt satisfied enough to turn her attention back to what Leo was saying. She was very intrigued to see how different he was from his twin.
He seemed a bit more formal and stiff, but other than that, she really didn't think it was necessary to call him prickly as a cactus as Gil had once referred to him as.
Earl stared at Leo suspiciously, then switched to Eavan's face as though trying to read her thoughts. Eavan raised an eyebrow, but chose not to say anything about it. She'd ask later.
"Yeah, Earl's not too happy about it either, but I dragged him along anyways. You can't brood over these things, and he loves Quidditch." Eavan smiled gave Earl a playful punch on the arm. "Though from the looks of it, this game won't go on for long." Eavan glanced back out to the field where two of the Pecari chasers were at the medic's tent and quite a few of the players were standing aimlessly around the field, while others hovered lazily in the air above.\n\n

Geoffrey was still feeling personally responsible for losing the game. Not a single goal; a big, fat nothing. He'd snatched a little extra when he was at the tables so he was able to eat again later, when he was feeling the worst and he strongly suspected that the end of term was going to be a trial, especially when his mother caught sight of him. Why couldn't he have done better?
But that wasn't all. Something was up with Jennifer. He'd been watching her around the commons, and something felt off. He worried that maybe she was angry at them all for failing her on the day, angry at him for not being able to do what he was supposed to go - get the quaffle and throw it through a hoop. He wasn't sure what he could do. Would he even be welcome when it came to tryouts next year?
Sitting in the stands to watch the Champianship - if nothing else, he owed support to Stephen and Fido; he'd put his own idea's into improving the broom and it gave him a sense of achievement that he desperately clung to just at the moment - he slowly made his way through a couple of hidden bread rolls. The crumbs fell over his casual robes, and he had to pause every now and then to try to brush them off.
The game was going along smoothly enough when something happened that had half the spectators on their feet, commenting or yelling things that he wasn't quite catching. It was about this time that he noticed his captain entering the stand, and he dithered at the back while watching her push through to the front.
He still needed to write his grandmother, he recalled suddenly. He'd forgotten. She would be angry if he forgot entirely. He edged back in the stands a little, to where it was less likely that he would be spotted and brought up for questioning, and figuring that whatever was causing the fuss would settle themselves soon enough. He shoved the rest of his final bread roll into his mouth - his cheek's bulged for the minute it took him to chew his way through it enough to start swallowing - and felt through his robes pocket for some paper and a quill. He could at the very least have a rough copy done, and write it out neatly after the game.
Perhaps he could tell his grandmother about Jennifer first... it might help him work out what to do.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Chris had waited with all the other fans to watch the game, to specifically watch and support Kaylie. He was dressed simply in a pair of jeans and a maroon shirt. He really hoped that the Tepps won.
On and on the game seemed to drag on. With concern, he watched Kaylie flying around looking worn. In his opinion, the game couldn't end soon enough so she could take a break. He had brought an extra bottle of water in case she needed it after the game.
Finally, after what seemed to be hours, she did it. She caught the snitch! After the official ending of the game when Kaylie landed, Chris grabbed the water and ran towards Kaylie. In his excitement, he took her by the waste and spun her around in a hug.
Before he knew it, he had set her down and leaned in to kiss her.\n\n
Quidditch Championship: Post Game (Stephen!)
by Mia Kerova
Mia wasn’t a quidditch fanatic. That was pretty obvious. She didn’t watch a lot of sports in general. Not like her brothers and her dad would watch football. She played some sports sometimes, but not quidditch. Flying was one thing. That was fun. But avoiding being hit by speeding metal balls was a whole other story. What weirdo thought that would be fun? But Mia was at the Pitch that hot day to cheer on her house team who did think the game was fun to play, and, of course, to cheer on Stephen.
She showed her support by sporting her house colors, a yellow top and light brown capris, plus a gold and brown striped ribbon holding her hair in a ponytail. Still slightly self-conscious since Christmas break, she was upset she couldn’t wear some kind of jacket, but even the light one was uncomfortable in that weather so it stayed around her waist. She even questioned wearing her charm bracelet, but her wrist felt strange without it. With a fanning spell in place making her and probably the person behind her more comfortable, Mia cheered on the Pecari team. She wanted to cheer for Tally too, since she was her best friend at Sonora, but she stuck to just cheering for her own team in the final match. She’d talk to Tally sometime after the game.
The game seemed to be going well enough, not a lot of action to start off, but then that Teppenpaw beater went to work on Liz and the first year, Caedence who hadn’t had the best luck with bludgers in the other game either. Mia stopped watching Stephen, whom she had been mainly focused on before bludgers started breaking things and drew her attention away, and kept her eyes on Ginger, hoping she’d see the snitch and catch it soon. It seemed like Pecari’s best hope. Mia bit her lip as she watched events unfold. She heard grumbling from within the crowd, another unhappy spectator. Mia may not speak to her much, but she didn’t want Liz hurt like that. That left Saul by himself and Pecari without much hope, but they were far from giving up.
“Come on Ginger. You can do it.” Mia whispered, she clasped her hands together around her wand. Ginger just needed to get the snitch. She had done it before.
Well, so much for that. Kaylie got to the snitch first and just after Saul had scored. Mia frowned. It really was disappointing. Maybe she hadn’t expected Pecari to lose even after losing two chasers. They hadn’t lost yet so the first loss was tough. She wondered how the team would take it. Mia got up a split second after the snitch was caught, pocketed her wand and weaved her way through the crowd to get off the stands and down onto the pitch to meet Stephen. She was sure he would be alright. It was just a game after all.
Mia stood by the edge of the Pitch looking around for Stephen. Caedence had stormed past looking furious. Mia stepped aside, letting her go. She watched the first year’s retreating back and shook her head slowly. Maybe it was more serious than Mia thought. Or maybe the girl was just overreacting. Mia looked back at the pitch finally spotting Stephen and waved him down with a sympathetic smile. Stephen could find the lighter side of things. She was sure he’d be fine.\n\n

Oh wow ! For a day where she'd gotten sick, this was turning out to be a rather good one. First Kaylie had caught the snitch and now Chris was going to kiss her . It really was a good thing that her brother wasn't around.
Kaylie tilted her head up to let him kiss her. This was amazing . Maybe Chris really liked her. That would be so great! She really liked him too. Kaylie was a bit worried that he wouldn't. She didn't exactly know why, maybe because she wasn't smart enough, he was an Aladren after all. Or her family was too liberal, because they didn't have a problem with non-purebloods (aside from battling religious muggles, primarily her Grandpa Frank's extreme muderous dislike of Mormons.) But he was going to kiss her so he must like her a lot! People didn't go around kissing people they didn't like.
She felt lightheaded again, but this was a good kind of lightheaded, like Marshall said being drunk was. Kaylie was just so happy! \n\n
Leo caught the exchange of nonverbal commentary between the siblings, but didn't bring it up; siblings in general--and he knew from experience--were rather weird when it came to certain things. He wasn't exactly surprised, given the stereotype of the overprotective big brother and Gil's obvious infatuation with Eavan, that Earl was displeased by their friendship--at least, that's what Leo assumed was the problem. Though why Earl was looking at him suspiciously, he'd never understand.
It turned out that Eavan was right, though; the game ended very quickly, another win for Teppenpaw. Leo cheered with everyone else, though not quite as vociferously as earlier, now that he knew there were people paying attention to his conduct. And in any event, his brother hadn't exactly played an instrumental part in the win--though Leo would, of course, tease him mercilessly about what he liked to call Gil's knight-in-shining-armor complex. The boy couldn't let anything bad happen without attempting to intervene.
The little voice in his head that sounded an awful lot like Gil tutted. Leo made an expression halfway between a smirk and a grimace--he could just hear his brother now. And what do you call that little show with Gray in the library?
"Self-interest," he muttered absently as the vicious Pecari firstie stormed off the field. He spotted Gil making his way towards them through the crowd, a silly grin plastered across his face. He turned then towards the Valentine siblings. "Look, here comes Gil."\n\n
0Leo and GilBetter late than never, eh?0Leo and Gil05
The game had not been anything Jake had been expecting when he had first awoken that morning. First with Lexi taking out not one, but two of the Pecari Chasers. If Jake didn't need her so much...or like her so much...or wasn't slightly terrified of her, he would have probably thrown her from the team for being so...erm, well, anyway, they ended up winning so that was all that matter.
He saw Kaylie run off to meet some bloke before he could give her a hug and a congrats on catching the snitch. Despite looking dreadful, she had pulled through for the team and Jake was appreciative of that. Still fearing Lexi, Jake thought it best not to dare even try hugging her, he had no idea where Pepper was at the moment, and Tally looked as though she was about to kick someone in a private area. So, still giddy with glee and happiness, Jake turned to the only other female on the team (he very much doubted that Gil would enjoy a hug), Dalila. "Dalila, We WON!" He cried happily before pulling her into a hug.
"We actually won! You did great! Honestly, wow!" Jake said, grinning like a baffoon and releasing Dalila from his hug to gentle rub her head in praise. "See, I knew we could do it! Just have to have a bit of faith in ourselves!" Jake said, rambling in his moment of bliss. "Aren't you happy, Dal?" Jake had taken both of her shoulders by his hands and was looking at her with a hopeful look on his face. He wanted her to be just as excited about winning as he was about it.\n\n
Well... that was an anticlimax for the game
by Stephen Baxter
Stephen sat there for a bit, trying to work out what had happened. The Teppenpaw Chasers hadn't got anywhere near him! The Quaffle hadn't seemed to make it past the halfway point once. Not once. This ... sucked.
Fido, clearly not happy either, tilted to the side, and Stephen went with it, so that they looped the rings, slowly, one more time before looking to the stands. Mia wasn't there anymore. Perplexed, Stephen looked harder, to the left and right of where she'd been sitting. Moving his search further afield, he finally spotted her on the pitch, waving him down.
As he descended, he started to cheer up a little again.
At least, he was until he spotted some of the other activity happening on the pitch. That Chris kid from Aladren was... kissing Kaylie. Kaylie who had thrown up during the game and hadn't stopped to wash her mouth out or anything. Ewwww. That was gross. Almost as bad as the idea of Sorrel and her stone-aged boyfriend.
Struggling valiantly against the urge to watch it continue and see the look on Chris' face when he realised his mistake, Stephen landed, and forced himself to look away. He closed his eyes for moment, to try and escape the mental image and then opened them again to smile weakly at Mia.
"Next time," he said, trying to lighten the bleak mood of defeat, "with any luck Jake'll have his Chasers a little more trained up so we can have us a real game." He paused. "And win," he added. And he'd finally get to actually do something in a game. This whole season had been washout.\n\n

Mia stopped waving when Stephen saw her and started coming down. He didn’t look at all like she expected. Was she the only one that felt like this loss wasn’t the end of the world? Pecari put up a good fight. At least he was taking it better than the first year. She was almost worried to see the Cravens who were already agitated by Coach Fox.
Mia nodded encouragingly as Stephen spoke. At least he was smiling...sort of. But what could you expect. He had barely anything to do throughout both of the games he played, after his obvious excitement over showing off his fixed up broom, plus his team lost the championship. Things definitely could’ve been better.
"Next time, with any luck Jake'll have his Chasers a little more trained up so we can have us a real game." He paused. "And win," A real game? Lexi wasn’t enough? Seeing Saul go against the Teppenpaw chasers and beaters alone would’ve made for a pretty good game if Kaylie hadn’t caught the snitch so soon after. But Mia knew what he meant.
“Yeah, maybe they’ll make it to your side of the Pitch next time and we’ll see some more action. But if Jake can’t do anything about his chasers, he’s always got Lexi for back up, but Pecari has a great team all around and the greatest Keeper at Sonora.”
Surprising herself a little, Mia put her arms around his neck and kissed him. Probably the first time she had done it first. Hopefully it would bring him back to his normal goofy self. She preferred that. It would happen eventually, she knew. No one could mope over a school game forever. She pulled back and looked for a genuine smile.
“And,” she added, “last I checked we were winning the point competition. You can guess who’s not happy about that, besides the other houses.” Tavarius Mims, the stuck up portrait by the Cascade Hall entrance, was never happy when Pecari won. He was very blunt about it too. And yet, Pecari kept winning and they’d do it again this year. That had to cheer up the team and watching an angry Tavarius was good for a laugh.\n\n
dalila landed nothe field and bounded from her broom, leaving it lying on the grass. At this moment, she didn't care what happen to a school broom. Teppenpaw WON! This thought alone caused Dalila to begin an impromptu victory dance. Cheering pounded her eardrums. Then out of the cheering crowd and very familiar and very happy face made itself visible to Dalila. The owner of said face pulled her into a tight hug and shouted in her ear.
"I know we won, Cap'n Jake! I know!" Dalila grinned as wide as she could muster and hugged him right back. She didn't know why, but hugging Jake made their that much better. Maybe it was because she knew she was appreciated and part of the team. Yeah, that's it.
They let go and Jake rubbed her head and then grabbed her by the shoulders. Dalila felt a little dazed from all the attention, but smiled at Jake.
"Course I'm happy! I'm thrilled! This is the best day ever!" She hugged him again, inhaling the scent of sweat and something else, she couldn't put her finger on.
"I can't believe it, but it's true! Wow! Are we gonna have a party?" she asked as she pulled away from him a second time.

Eavan cheered with the rest of the Teppenpaws. They won! Even though the other team was down two chasers, it was still a nice catch by the seeker. Eavan would have to congratulate the team sometime later. There would probably be a party of some sort; she'd do it then. She glanced over at Earl who was now staring at his lap trying to ignore the cheering going on.
Earl felt eyes on him and glanced up. Eavan's brtown orbs were staring directly at him and they held a look of concern there. Realizing it must be his complete lack of enthusiasm, he grinned broadly at his little sister and pulled on the pony tail she was wearing.
"If it couldn't be Crotalus..." he said a little too boldly. Eavan smiled and hugged him, when she heard Leo speak again.
"Look, here comes Gil."
Instantly Eavan let go of her brother, turned around and smiled at Gil. "We won!" she shouted before pressing through the last few people standing between them and pulling him into a very enthusiastic and bone-breaking hug.
"You were great out there! The way you saved the girl form the other team...that was so brave!" She realeased him and held him at arms length.
Jake was elited to hear that Dalila was happy that their team had won. Of course she would be happy, why wouldn't she be? Jake didn't know nor did he care, he was too happy to think straight. Everyone had thought they were push over just because they were Teppenpaws, but this win proved otherwise.
Her second hug surprised Jake slightly considering most people didn't liked to be hugged from the start. Not that he minded. He hugged her back and probably would have lifted her up and twirled her because he was so happy, but he didn't. He had to remember that it was a school championship. Just the school's.
He stumbled on an answer to her question for a moment. He would have liked a party, but term was coming to a close and he doubted they would have any time for one. Especially with exams on their way. "A party would be cool, but I doubt it. Most people still have exams to deal with. Maybe just a little one when we get back to the commonroom."\n\n
Dalila deflated monetarily when Jake told her that there wasn't going to be a huge party. Parties were so much fun and celebratory parties were even better. But her disappointment over the party didn't stop her from being thrilled about their win over Pecari.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. Finals and all..." Dalila had forgotten about finals, but she usually did and made up for it by reading through her notes just before the test; it worked for her, so she didn't mess with it.
"A small party would probably be best." She sighed and shrugged her shoulders. "Oh well. I guess the important thing is we won!" She twirled around in her happiness and then grabbed the broom she had thrown down in her celebrating.
"C'mon, I wanna get that 'small party' started!" She tugged Jake's sleeve playfully and cocked her head towards the school where most of the other students were heading.\n\n
Before Stephen could even answer Mia with a 'too true' and a wink, she managed to surprise them both, actually starting a display of public affection! It wasn't a particuarly long kiss, but Stephen was grinning goofily at the end of it, feeling remarkable pleased with himself. And with Mia. Quidditch was over, and here he had a pretty girl quite happy to throw herself at him in view of the entire school. There were definitely more pleasant things to think about. Or...
"Old Mims?" he asked after she'd gone on, but not really after an answer. His eyes were on her face, but most especially on her lips. "You know," he said, still looking at her face for a moment before glancing at the stands and grinning, "I've been thinking about an awesome use for the corridor ride." An arm around the waist, and starting to walk, bringing her along, he continued, "now, I did think about I might be the one to go for the run, but I'm not so sure it'll work, because - hot as you undoubtedly are - you're not really up to catching a guy."
He winked at her as he moved them off the pitch, and past the stands.
"Now me, I think I could just about take your weight," he teased, before glancing around and then turning quickly, lifting Mia up for a moment to get her over the small first barrier, before following himself, grabbing her hand and ducking under a low beam, pulling her behind him.
"Although," he said after a moment, "I'm not sure I really want to try it out just yet. My turn."
Stephen grinned at her again, then cupping her chin to lift it slightly, he leant in, instigating another kiss. A moment later, his hands started to move from their previously innocent positions, sliding slowly but surely towards other goals.\n\n
