Jake stood at the center of the Quidditch pitch waiting for his team to arrive. Last years Quidditch practice had gone as well as could be expected for a practice with newbies to Quidditch could have gone. So today, he had booked the pitch and was determined to get in a good practice so that they could be completely prepared for the games once they started.
Jake smiled when the last of his team arrived. "Good Afternoon everyone. Thanks for taking the time out of your Saturday for this practice, but it's a needed one. I'm Jake Santoro, Captain of the Teppenpaw Quidditch team. I'm glad that we have returning members and some new faces. For those of you I don't know, I look forward to getting to know you better." Jake greeted them with his usual lopsided grin. Of course, he would have preferred even more old faces to new cos that meant less work, but he'd settle for simply having a full team.
"Now, we don't have much time before the first of the games kick off, so we need to do as much as we can within this first practice. Since most of us are returning members, I figure we'll just introduce ourselves so that everyone knows everyone by face and name. I'm Jake, obviously, and I play Beater. Our senior members on the team are Kaylie Brocket, who plays our Seeker, and Tally Adams, who plays one of our Chasers." Jake pointed to each girl as he said their names and told what position they had.
"Dalila Bastet is our Junior member of the team and she plays another Chaser. Lexi Stafford and Pepper Jones are our sophomore members. Lexi plays Beater with me and Pepper will be our Keeper." Jake smiled happily at the three girls, realizing for the first time that without Dillon, there were way too many girls. "That leaves you, Gil Idoya." Jake looked straight at the youngest, newest, and only other boy on the team. "Gil will play the last of the Chaser. Alright, here's the deal. Chasers, work with Gil, get him used to the tactics you've been using, teach him whatever you need to. Pepper, head up to the goal posts and let them shoot at you. Block what you can. Lexi, I'm going to let out one bludger, protect the team and aim as though you're trying to knock out another team's player. Kaylie, I'll release the snitch once you're up in the air just like I did last year. If you get bored with that, don't worry, we'll be doing some exercise routines halfway through practice." Jake made sure he looked at each of his team members as he gave them his assignment.
Hopefully Gil wouldn't be too overwhelmed with everything. Tally and Dalila had been working together for the last three years and so would know each other's moves rather well. Although Jake didn't hang out with Kaylie, he knew she was a peppy girl with a good attitude. Pepper was still learning, but Dillon seemed to have faith in her and Jake trusted her too. Lexi proved herself well in last year's game. His team was a good team, but he wanted them to be the best.
After that, Jake dismissed his team. He waited a few minutes until everyone was settled into their spots. "KAYLIE, THE SNITCH IS OUT!" He called up to his seeker, "LEXI, THE BLUDGERS OUT!" Jake yelled out, releasing the stuggling ball and watching it fly off. He intended to stay on the ground for awhile and watch how his team handle themselves. This way, he'd be able to see what they needed to work on.
OOC: The purpose of this practice is to get everyone's writing down. Posts are based on writing skills (ie: lessons) so I want to make sure everyone knows how to write a Quidditch post and write it well. So, this is your practice time. Feel free to write out posts with great detail. If you can't do it at first, don't feel discouraged, just look at other players as examples and work with what they give you.
Dalila practically skipped on her way to Quidditch practice. It was a beautifulo day and Dalila was a bout to take flight once again, after not being able to practice all summer, thanks to her strict and traditional grandmother. With an old school broom in her hands, Dalila met up with Jake in the center of the field.
"Hey Captain Jake!" Dalila waved as she took her place and waited for the rst of te team to arrive. Whileeveryone settled around her, Dadli looked at her teammates. Most were old to the team but there were one or two that were brand new. Dalila was really glad for the introduction; she still had a hard time remembering her teammates' names. When her name was announced, Dalila grinned at everyone and gave an overly dramatic bow.
At the end of the introduction, Dalila headed off with Tally and the first year boy, whose name Dalila had already forgotten.
"So, uhh, what's your name again?" She looked at the boy. After receiving an appropriate answer, Dalila turned to Tally. "So, what do we teach him first, Tals?"\n\n

That's alright, won't hold it against you

Tally had been expecting this practice to come. Everyday she would look at the bulletin board to see if Jake had posted the practice schedule. Of course, when she happened to look and actually see the schedule, Tally was a little caught off guard.
That morning, Tally had awoken refreshed and ready. Quidditch was her way of blocking out the bad and thinking only of the good. Only of Quidditch. Lately she had been having a hard time keeping her emotions in check. One moment she would be happy and carefree, the next she felt like crying. She didn't like not having control, but she refused to write home or to her doctor. He would want to 'talk' about it and Tally certainly was never in the mood to talk about such things. If her mother had lived with it, so could Tally. That was what Tally believed.
So that day, Tally was ready to have a good practice. Her long hair was pulled up into a messy bun and her pads were laced up her legs and down her arms. She waited patiently next to her teammates as Jake went about his usual routine. She wondered if they would ever have a team that was always the same. It felt like every year they had to search out new people. Luckily, because they had had two Keepers last year, this year they only needed to search out one chaser. He seemed to be a first year.
When Jake called on her, Tally gave a small wave and grinned at everyone. She settled back into her lazy stance and waited until everyone had been introduced. Gil. That was the name of their newest Chaser. She'd have to remember that. She remembered Dalila mainly because from day one, Dalila had made her presence known. So, when they were dismissed, Tally grabbed her broom and walked farther into the pitch, readying herself for the flight into the air. Dalila's question made Tally pause. Tally turned to look at Gil, "Right, this first, Gil, ever played Quidditch before? If you have, what position, if you haven't, can you fly?"\n\n

Finally! Gil had been waiting for the first Quidditch practice for what felt like eons. He could barely stand still as the captain, Jake, ran through a bit of a speech and introduced all of the other players; he bounced lightly on the balls of his feet as he glanced around at the Teppenpaw team. Other than him and the cap'n, it seemed entirely composed of girls. Unlike some of Gil's friends from home, he couldn't find fault with that; after all, no one played Beater like his cousin Agnese, and hadn't Gitana almost pulled of a Wronski Feint last spring?
When the time came to actually practice, he grabbed the Nimbus 2001 he'd found during the flying lesson earlier that season and hurried after the two other Chases. After confirming his name with one - Dalila? - he turned to answer the other's questions.
"Yeah, I play Quidditch all the time with my cousins. Usually I'm a Chaser, but sometimes I play Keeper," he explained, tapping his fingers eagerly against the broom's slightly worn finish. "I'm - well, I'm not too bad," he said, offering Tally, who seemed to be the unofficial leader of the Chasers, a shy smile. "So what do you want me to do?"\n\n

Tally gave an inward sigh of relief when Gil informed her that he could, indeed, play Quidditch. She wasn't up for having to go through the explanation and then have to make sure he could fly. That would just take too much time and a lot of effort. Tally didn't want to make her life any more complicated than it already was.
"Great!" Tally said, grinning and pulling her broom closer to her. "Less work for us then." Tally said, half-joking. "For now, until Pepper's ready, we'll fly around and do some passing." Tally said, trying to figure out the best strategy that would get them to work as a team. "Of course, it's not just straight back and forth passing, what's the point of that? But passing from high to low or low to high, from side by side and across the pitch. Those sort of passes, just to see what level we are all at." Tally thought that was the best for the moment.
"Once Pepper's ready, we can start taking some shots and maybe play two on one or something just to give it a shake up. Make it harder for us or something." Tally said with a slight shrug of her slender shoulders. "After maybe we can talk about strategies and ideas. See what we can put together. Sound good?" Tally waited for replies and once everyone was satisfied, hoisted herself onto her broom and kicked off. "Alright, let's get started."\n\n

A slow grin spread across Gil's face as Tally gave him the run-down of exercises for today's practice. It sounded sort of like what he and his cousin Jacinto used to do - pretty much, the Muggle game of catch, but on broomsticks. This he could do.
"Sounds great!" he agreed. Tally kicked off, and Gil was only a few seconds behind her. Again, he regretted not having his own broom with him, but the school Nimbus he was using really wasn't half bad, especially as he got used to its quirks and idiosyncracies. He flew upward in a loose spiral for a few moments before reversing, just to check how tight its turns were - for a broom that must go through a lot of abuse throughout the schoolyear, it really was quite good.
Finally he steadied himself a good ten feet below Tally and a decent distance away. "Ready when you guys are," he said, grinning at her and Dalila.\n\n

Dalila waited impatiently while the boy (she had forgotten his name already)told her and Tally about his Quidditch experience. Her look of relief mirrored Tally's. She didn't want to go through trying to teach him how to fly or anything.
Suddenly Tally and the boy were launching into the air and Dalila rushed to join them. The wind swept her now shoulder-length dark brown streaked with her signature strips of orange. She never felt freer than when she was up in the air like this. She felt like a bird. And if her grandmother found out, Dalilas wings would be cut and she'd be caged.
She flew around the field once before grabbing the quaffle and joining the other two chasers.
"Okay, since you're ready, prove it!" Dalila tossed Gil the odd red ball also known as the quaffle as she sped down the field past her target. It was a basic move between chasers: passing the ball at high speeds. The might as well get right into it.\n\n

Gil, despite his assurance that he was ready for the best the girls could give him, was taken more than just a little aback when Dalila shouted to him, "Okay, since you're ready, prove it!" His head whipped around to see Dalila speeding down the field even as she lobbed the red ball in his general direction. All right, maybe not exactly in his direction - with an inarticulate shout of surprise, he leaned forward and spurred his broom towards the ball, one hand outstretched.
The quaffle continued in its path, arcing gently downward as anti-gravity charms kicked in - but despite that, Gil found himself having to angle his broom downward and reach out with both hands, instead of just one. He squeezed the broom tightly between his thighs as he approached it, and felt his fingertips scrape the ball. He fumbled for a moment, then got a good grasp on it - and then almost somersaulted as the front end of his broom dipped violently downward at the shift in weight.
He yelped again, and threw his weight back further on the broom; after a few seconds of shifting, he steadied enough to feel secure in turning his attention back to his fellow Chasers. "Oy!" he shouted to get her attention, and then, instead of throwing it to Tally, tossed it back to Dalila.
Well... it could've been worse, I s'pose, he thought as the Quaffle soared towards him. I think. \n\n
Dalila threw the ball and swerved around to see how the newbie had done. It was interesting to say the least. It was almost funny, but all in all not bad. And Dalila told him so as he tossed the quaffle back to her.
"Not bad, Newbie! But next time, look to where the quaffle is going and not where it is at that moment. You won't have to lunge towards the ball, and you won't have to worry about flippng over so much."
Dalila threw the ball to Tally in the same way as she had done with the boy. She would show him how it was done.
While Tally was busy with the quaffle, Dalila flew to her new teammate and slapped him on the back.
"Really, you caught it. That was great. And by the first game, you'll be a pro!"\n\n
