Scarlett took a deep breath and tucked a piece of strawberry red hair behind her ear. She was here, so she might as well try to make friends. She still wasn't used to this whole magic thing, but the guide that had tried to explain everything helped a little. Being raised muggle you're whole life and then(Surprise!) suddenly getting a letter from a magic school was a lot to try to understand in the span of a few weeks. Snapping back to the present, she surveyed the group of first years around her. She chose a student at random and walked up to them with a smile. "Hey! I'm guessing you're new too? I mean, you have to be new, or you wouldn't be standing around with a bunch of first years-," Scarlett stopped mid-sentence, afraid she might scare this friendly-looking person away with her chatter. "Sorry. Guess I'm a little nervous. I'm Scarlett," she said, twirling a piece of hair around her finger with a nervous smile.
Malikhi Hill was excited to be at Sonora Academy. Granted, being from England, he wasn't used to being around Americans and a part of him would've preferred going to an English school, where he understood the people and the references and didn't stick out like a sore thumb because of his accent. Still, he wasn't one to mope around and his Aunt had wanted him to attend Sonora in order to learn about a different nation and their culture and he'd always enjoyed new experiences. So, here he was.
He'd just dismounted from the enchanted wagon, a wide grin on his face and his blond hair a mess. He'd had fun on the ride, despite being thrown about a bit and now, here he was. The rest of the first years were wandering around, taking in the sights of the school in front of them and he wondered who he should approach to talk to - if there were people to talk to, that meant there was the potential to make new friends. However, before he'd managed to choose someone to approach, he was greeted by a girl with strawberry red hair and seemed to be rather talkative.
He laughed away her apology, not in the slightest bit bothered by her chattiness. He liked people who talked and sent a smile in her direction before sticking out his hand for her to shake.
"I'm Malikhi. Malikhi Hill," he introduced himself. "I'm a bit nervous too, don't worry. You're looking forward to being here though, right?"
OOC note - Hi and welcome to Sonora Academy! I'm known as Malikhi but I also have two other characters, Tabitha Hawthorne who is the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and Julius Astley, who is another first year student. It's great to have you here :)
(OCC: Aw! Thanks! :) Hope this is an ok first try.) Scarlett smiled, set at ease by Malikhi's easy smile and greeting. That and the fact that he hadn't made an excuse and left after her little outburst of chatter. "Honestly? I'm kind of still in shock that this place exists. I mean, of course I'm excited. It's just... weird to be told that magic, like you hear about in fairy tales as a kid, is real and you've been accepted into a school that teaches you all about it," she said, thinking of her brothers back in Florida who were probably celebrating her leaving the house. Her smile faltered for a bit and she sighed before continuing. "So how about you? I'm from Florida, and I can tell from your accent you're probably from...somewhere near England? Maybe?," she guessed. "Anyway, so I don't know everything about what I'm getting myself into, but the school sure looks beautiful," she commented, looking in the direction of the school. From here, you could see the Labyrinth Gardens surrounding the school on one side. Her natural interest in anything unexplored, and usually dangerous or off-limits, places showed on her face as she squinted to try to see what was in the gardens.

Well, that depends on what it turns into!

Malikhi found that he quite liked this girl. She was clearly fascinated by her new surroundings like he was, though he was less surprised by the existance of magic. The fact that she'd said that being told that magic existed and perceived it as weird indicated to him that she was a muggleborn. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to be in her shoes - he'd known about magic as soon as he could understand words from his mother. He knew and understood more about magic more than his own father who was a muggle. He was not surprised that the whole thing was a shock to Scarlett.
"I am from England," he confirmed her thoughts, nodding. "London, to be exact. I know a bit about the school, if you want me to tell you."
Malikhi wasn't the type of boy to be prepared but he'd been forced by his mother and aunt to sit through a discussion where he'd been told various facts about the school. It didn't seem fair that he knew more than she did, simply because she was muggleborn. He was more than willing to help catch her up, if she wanted him to.
At the moment, she appeared to be looking in the direction of the gardens and he started to walk in that direction. He'd seen a bespectacled teacher pointing first years in that direction so that must be where orientation was being held.
"Come on, orientation's this way!"
OOC - No problem, you're doing great. I just thought I'd also point out that if you want to talk to me and some of the other authors on the site, you're welcome to join us in the Chatzy room. You should've had a link to it in your acceptance email :)
