Fair Announcement by DH Skies
Two days prior, notices had gone up in all the common rooms, explaining that there would be a special announcement about the fair before dinner, and requesting that all interested students be in the hall for the start of the evening meal slot. Selina waited until the flow of students into the room seemed to have stopped, balancing wanting to give the maximum time for them to assemble with the desire not to delay the mealtime of a bunch of hungry adolescents.“Good evening,” she greeted, once she felt everyone who was coming was there, “We’ve been brainstorming hard, and the staff have decided that this year, our fair will have an international theme. This will involve booths set up by different students to showcase selected countries - you can display costumes, have tasters of food… Whatever you think is interesting, within reason. Participation is voluntary.
“We thought long and hard about the best way to get a variety of countries, and to have manageable groups, whilst allowing everyone who wants to be to be involved. There will be eight countries to sign up for, with a maximum of six volunteers per country, and each group supervised by a member of staff. If all the booths fill up, you can speak to a staff member about joining theirs - but only if they are all full. If you slack off on signing up and don’t get your first choice, that’s just tough.
“In order to make sure we have a diverse range of countries represented, they are going to be selected by the staff. However, we are going to have a suggestion box in the entrance hall for the next week. If you feel particularly strongly about a country, you may suggest it.” After much debate, this had been agreed as the best way to give students involvement whilst making it an efficient process, and a well-balanced fair. Whilst no solution was perfect, she felt this ticked the most boxes, and hopefully kept as many people as possible happy.
“I won’t keep you from your dinner any longer, though if anyone has questions, they can approach me or any other member of staff about it.”
OOC - this is just a pre-notice to give you all the low down on the fair, and to give any indecisive characters a chance to think or talk it through before the sign ups go up. If anyone would like to nominate a country, please email it to the site address within the next week, alongside the name of the character(s) who would be nominating it.
