Round up, little Pecaris! by Prof. Isis Carter
After a lovely evening of chatting and eating with her coworkers and friends, Isis was off to gather up her new brood. She was slightly surprised to be asked to take over the Head of House position, but upon further thought, she supposed it made sense. While she wasn’t necessarily the same level as an actual, tenured professor, having to substitute for all classes meant they trusted her to be versatile. So really, she could handle anything, even Pecari.“Hey! Pecari first years, this way!” Isis called over the lingering chatter, the air stirring with talk of summer and the year ahead. Her own summer had not been particularly eventful, really, so she definitely looked forward to the school year to provide something more substantial. (And how sad was it that work was where the only substance in her life existed? But whatever.)
The young witch--but feeling older everyday, she noted with mild disappointment--smiled as new faces came to her. As she took in her first impression, she idly wondered what they thought of her at first sight. Isis happened to be one of those lucky individuals who looked good in almost every color, but she always felt the most confident in red. She had debated dressing in brown to match Pecari’s House color, but that particular shade was one she tended to ignore as it matched too closely to her dark complexion. She was just about five and a half feet and of a slender build, not really one to intimidate them, although Pecaris were not easily intimidated anyway.
“Hello, and welcome to Sonora!” She greeted her little flock when she was fairly certain everyone had arrived. “I’m Isis Carter, on-call substitute professor and your Head of House.” With Florence Olivers gone this year, Isis would basically be teaching Charms until a permanent professor could be located. It seemed every year it was someone else. At least it kept her busy. “If no one has any questions right off the bat, let’s head out, and I’ll show you to your new home!”
