With a dramatic sweep of her violet robes, Florence made her way down the steps towards the exit. It felt good to be back at a place that had become her haven for the past seven years. There was the chatter of new students, the familiar smells of food, and the grand beauties of the school itself. The desert, perhaps, she could do without, but it was bearable when she was inside the school’s walls. There were times that she missed the life of a traveling stage actress and voice coach, or days that she longed for the windy city of Chicago, but she remembered why she stuck around here when she saw the faces of her students. Maybe she was getting on in years and was becoming more sentimental as a result, but in any case she liked where she was right at this moment.
During the headmaster’s annual welcoming speech, Florence was proud to hear that one from her house had been voted Head Girl. It had been quite a few years since the last Head student from Pecari, and she hoped Anthony and Wendy would prove to be a productive team. The remainder of the feast was wonderful as it always was, but she was eager to get the first-years to their new home.
Any avid theatre-goer in America would know Florence’s Italian features, her dark hair, and her voice, particularly those of the wizarding world. After her husband’s untimely death, her passion for acting had become a side hobby for Charms, teaching, and, as for the past four years, coaching Quidditch. The Pecari first-years would be seeing quite a lot of her for the next seven years, especially if they decided to join the Quidditch team.
“All Pecari first-years, over here,” she called at the doors leading out of Cascade Hall. She had no sign that made it evident that she was the Head of House for Pecari, but she knew exactly who she needed in the group before moving on to the common room. She watched closely, hoping to catch any stray first-years with the signature Pecari brown painted on their skin. When it seemed as though she had everyone, she smiled at them and brought her hands together. “Welcome to Sonora, Pecaris. I am Professor Olivers, your Head of House, Charms professor, and the current Quidditch coach. We’ll get to know each other very well over the next few years, so don’t be shy. Now, I think we have everyone. Let’s move on to the common room.” With that, she swept her long robes around her feet and walked into the hallway leading to the gardens.
