Investigation Officially Finds Fault with Shelley Facility
After several months of investigation by the Cabinet into the Sonora Shut Off, the finger was officially pointed today at the Shelley Facility, a new resource for experimental charms. The conclusion is unsurprising, as the Shelley Facility has looked increasingly likely to be found to be at fault as the investigation has progressed. A spokeswizard for the facility issued the following statement.
We, at the Shelley Facility, are deeply apologetic over the incident that occurred at the end of last year, and for the stress caused to all those involved. Due to the secrecy surrounding the precise location of Sonora, it was impossible for us to know how close to the school we were setting up, and we are considering investigating why this issue was not brought to our attention by those with the necessary information. Any new enterprise is bound to have a few teething problems, and we would ask the public to be moderate in their response to this problem. A lot of time, effort and money has gone into providing this facility, which can provide world-leading innovation, and it would be a shame to see that all snuffed out over one single incident, especially as we are doing all we can to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.
The closing lines of the statement appear to address cries by pressure groups for the facility to shut down, or threats of legal action against those responsible, which may bankrupt the facility. Sonora Academy has passed no comment on whether it itself intends to pursue any form of action against the facility but it is likely that the school will direct any angry parents that way, especially now that they have been cleared of bearing any responsibility.
It seems possible from the statement above that the facility will launch its own investigation into the Magical Planning Department of the Cabinet. Whilst the location of certain magical sites is kept secret for reasons of safety and security, the Department is responsible for ensuring that wizarding buildings are built in safe and suitable locations, both from the point of view of Muggle risk factors and the magical facilities' interaction with each other. An irritated cabinet wizard stated when asked
“Well, we'll look into it if they insist, but I'll eat my broomstick if their application mentions that they would be belching toxic clouds into the atmosphere!”
Whilst the mud slinging between these two sides may continue for some time, today's news will come as a welcome relief to beleaguered head of Sonora Academy, Mortimer Brockert, as today's finding officially puts the school in the clear. The investigation into the school focussed on its security measures, as well as whether there was any further action that could reasonably have been expected of the staff.
