As he rubbed his eyes discreetly just before time to collect the new first years, John briefly almost regretted not letting his wife, Allison, talk him into selling everything they owned except his books and abruptly retiring to Tahiti without leaving a forwarding address. He felt like an old man tonight, never a pleasant thing. New first years, however, were always a cause for celebration, so he out the intruding thoughts aside and made sure to smile as he called the Aladren ones to him.
It was, after all, possible that the eleven-year-olds might find him less approachable-looking than some of the other Heads of Houses. He was a very tall man, thin beneath plain robes of a navy blue darker and duller than the Aladren shade and trimmed in grey, and though most Muggles would still guess he was a good two decades younger than he really was, he had given up dying all the grey out of his formerly all-dark hair long enough ago that, with the softening of the long face behind his bifocals, he was clearly past or at best at the very end of his later middle years, depending on how the term was defined. Add a manner which tended toward severity when he didn't make an active effort to warm it and the first years likely not yet being fully acclimated to the Aladren way of approaching anything which seemed like it could be alarming with the assurance that they could reason past it, move it out of the way, or, if worst came to worst, demonstrate the benefits of being a studious witch or wizard by blowing it up, and he thought it best to put forth the effort there.
"Welcome," he said, doing a quick head count. "I am Professor Fawcett, Potions master and Head of Aladren House, where you have been Sorted if you turned blue earlier in the evening. We're very pleased to have you all. Please follow me to your new common room."
OOC: Continued on the Aladren Common Room board. You may reply to these posts if you wish, but do not need to, since they are just to introduce your characters to their Houses and release you to post on all the boards. You may also continue your Opening Feast threads if you wish and start threads elsewhere because of what we call "fuzzy time." Welcome to Sonora!
