Sonora’s medic couldn’t be any happier than he was now. The brown-haired young man had a new bounce to his step and it had to do with the fact that he had gotten engaged to his girlfriend of a year and a half. A goofish grin was plastered over his face as he reentered the familiarity that the Cascade Hall and sat down with the rest of the Sonora staff to wait for the feast to actually begin. The chatter in the Cascade Hall engulfed him entirely, and felt at home. The small school in Arizona had become his home away from home and there was nothing that would make him leave the place. Unless he had to in order to save his life or something just as drastic.
Dylan’s boyish eyes roamed the hall and smiled at the students he recognized. Since he was the medic, he actually saw almost every one of the students at one time or another. The medic left new lot for last, and like every year he was amazed at how small the first years looked. He smiled brightly at them trying to be encouraging. Some were probably nervous about the whole process of being sorted, and he wanted to make them feel welcome. He was sure he would see them soon enough.
The chatter died all around the hall when the headmistress greeted everyone. Dylan listened carefully to what she had to say and got all excited when a new Tepp was added to his house. It was obvious he was happy about being back and about the new additions. His applause was louder when Tepp was mentioned. And how could he not create a thunderous applause when the new head boy was asked to pick his badge when he came from his house? It was a good year for Teppenpaw.
Once everything calmed down and the food appeared, Dylan’s mind wandered back to his fiancé. He still couldn’t believe he had actually popped the question. It had been a spur of the moment thing. He had just blurted out without any kind of plan. The medic didn’t even have a ring for Cassie, but it had been better for her to choose it herself. He had awful taste when it came to jewelry. The grin settled back and he enjoyed his dinner while occasionally engaging in conversation with the staff at his right.
Time passed quickly and it was now time to escort his new mentees to the Teppenpaw dormitories. He got up, brushed his brightly new blue robes and made his way to the Tepp table. “Welcome, everyon!” he greeted them. “First years, please follow me. I am Medic Dylan Bailey, your Head of House.”
