The new school year seemed to bring many changes with it. First, there was the change in administration. Erika had liked Regal well enough and it was unfortunate to see him go. However, life must go on and one must be flexible enough to allow it to do so lest end up in the dwellings of misery. No, she was not that type of person and as such welcomed Kijewski easily enough as a successor to the position. She didn’t know the woman very well despite having taught together over the last year. Yet, it was possible that the woman might prove to be an ally in the other changes that were coming to her life.
Erika’s hand lightly touched her belly. Torra, her partner, and her had made the decision to have “twins.” While the children would not actually be twins since they would not biologically have the same mother, they would be half-siblings, sharing their biological father. The process had been easy enough and since done at the same time, the Healer ensured that the babies should be born within two weeks of each other, if not the same. Her major concern over this was if something went wrong, especially since they would be separated from each other for most of the duration. This was why she was thankful that Kiva was around. She had heard that she had endured a similar situation and now had a beautiful son.
The other major change was that she was now the Head of House for Pecari. It was a little unnerving that she would have to do more than just teach and protect her young charges. Being Head of House added a whole new line of responsibilities such as ensuring that the students were getting along, that they were adjusting properly, etc. It was like being a professor, an auror, a counselor, a friend, and whatever else the child needed all in one. She supposed it was much like being a parent and oh, how she hoped that she was good at it. If only for the fact that she would soon be one. What if she were horrible at it? The brunette was normally brimming with confidence, part of being in her previous profession of auror, but for the first time, she had serious doubts about her abilities.
Taking a deep breath, she thought about Torra. Her wife would tell her that she was being silly. Erika would be wonderful at this. She was born to take charge, used to responsibility. She could do this. Erika smiled softly at the thought. Yes, her girl would be full of praise and assurances. There was no reason to be afraid, no reason to doubt, because she wouldn’t know until she tried. Reluctantly leaving the soft rolls, she followed the other professors’ suit and went to gather her Pecaris.
“Pecari first years!” She called a few times to ensure that everyone that should be there was there. After all, it was generally thought that most first years didn’t have the best attention spans, Pecaris doubly so. She didn’t blame them though. There was certainly a great deal to look at and soon even more to do, but for now she had to keep them wrangled in so they would know the way to their quarters. “You’re with me. I am Professor Levy, your Head of House. Step lively and follow me to where you’ll be spending the next seven years.”
