Recently, Annabelle had been thinking about something. It was surprising that it hadn't actually occurred to her years earlier.
She needed to change her last name.
Honestly, it was surprising that Annabelle had been able to keep using the last name Winslow for so long. In fact, she was surprised that she'd been able to stay alive using the name of her biological family for so long.
She'd learned some less than pleasant things about the Winslow family since her disownment and truthfully, Annabelle was sort of glad she'd been disowned. Not only was she glad to be away from what had been a truly terrible situation but her former father was only the latest in a long line of absolute monsters. She didn't really want to be associated with that family at all. It even bothered Annabelle that those genes were still inside her. She would never want to be like that.
From now on, she would use her uncle's last name. Uncle Chris had been a better father to her than her own had ever been and Annabelle would be proud to use his last name, Morrow. It wasn't a pureblood name, as her uncle was a muggleborn, but Annabelle didn't care. Being a pureblood meant diddly-squat to her now. It never really had meant much to begin with, which had been one of the many issues between her and her ex-father.
In fact, it was better that Morrow wasn't a pureblood last name. That way Annabelle could never offend any of them by using it and risk retaliation. If she was now mistaken for a half-blood or even muggleborn, so what? Annabelle didn't exist to the pureblood community anyway.
She was so wrapped up in her thoughts that she didn't notice someone was sitting across from her and was brought back to earth when the person addressed her. "Pardon?" Annabelle asked.
