Aiden O'Neil

So far, things with the Archery Club were going along nicely. He was really happy that people were still interested in joining the club even though Keme (who was basically a professional Archer by comparison) was no longer the host of the club. Instead, it was Aiden with Lena’s help, who had only begun to take lessons outside of Sonora for the sole purpose of being more confident in hosting the club. Last year he had been a wreck about it because he didn’t think he would get any interest in the club, then he thought he couldn't carry the club because he was so inexperienced with it all. But as the year had gone on, people had continued to go to the meetings. It spurred Aiden on.

Because of the success of the club last year, even without keme, Aiden had decided to step up his game and had started taking Archery lessons when he was home. The lessons really boosted his confidence with the club and he felt that with every meeting they held, the better the time that people had there. He really felt that the partnering helped people feel more comfortable with one another and with their level of skill.

“Good evening, everyone!” Aiden greeted once he was sure that last person who was planning to attend made it in. Normally, he would just tell everyone to find their mentor or partner, grab their tools and a target and have fun with it, but today he wanted to do something different. He really hoped that everyone was on board with it. “So today I thought we would play a game rather than just shoot the arrows at the target for an hour.” Aiden announced to them. “As you can see, there are five targets set up several feet apart. I would like for everyone to get into five groups of three or four people.” They had a large group for a club, but he didn’t think they had grown to be more than twenty members. “If you are without a group, let me know.”

“We are going to have a race with each other that will have four different levels.” Aiden explained. “We won’t actually be running or anything like that. The relay is with the targets. There will be four different targets, so make sure you choose your team member for each target wisely. Those with only three members, someone will have to go twice.” Aiden grinned and then turned towards the field where the targets were located.

“First around are stationary targets about twenty yards out. Your team member must hit the center of the target before you can move on. A buzzer will sound letting you know when it has been hit. The second round is a semi-slow moving target about thirty yards out. Again, you must hit the center to move on.” Aiden explained. “The third round is a floating target that is fast moving. It will move anywhere within the space of your section. You only have to hit the target in order to move on to the final round.” He hoped he was making sense, but the targets behind him were showing their stages as he explained them to help with a visual.

“The last round is much like the third one, but only with obstacles. The target will move quickly while objects will appear in front of it at random. The team that hits this final target will get a prize - to be determined later. If we have a tie, it will go to the team that was closest to the center.” Aiden looked around to see if anyone looked lost. “So, everyone grab a team, decide who is doing what, and if there are no questions, start shooting!”

Ben Pierce

Ben liked archery club. Prior to starting his own, it had been the only club Sonora offered that was based on a sport. Sports Club had a definite bias toward team sports, but individual skill based sports were still pretty awesome and Ben wasn't going to step on Aiden and Lena's toes by duplicating their efforts in his club, so the thought of dropping archery never occurred to him.

Today, though, it sounded like Archery was getting its team competition on, and Ben couldn't help but grin. Some of the later rounds sounded nigh on impossible and would probably attribute a lot of their successful completion to luck, but he was totally game to try it out anyway.

He moved to the first target and waved a hand trying to draw in some teammates. "Group one needs players!" he called out.

Once he had drawn in a couple more people to his target, he asked, "So is anybody really awesome or really new to archery? I've only been doing it a year and a half, but I'm okay, so I can do one of the middle rounds, probably. The one with the really fast moving target sounds super fun - round three, I think - so I'd like to try that one if nobody else has a preference?"

He doubted he was skilled enough to hit the darting target without taking a bunch of tries, but he really wanted to give that round a shot (or ten). He was at least decent at adjusting his aim and he certainly didn't need minutes to line up a shot (who had the patience for that?), so that would work in his favor anyway, he thought.

Shinohara Uzume

Uzume hadn't planned on attending the archery club that day, but noticed it beginning just as she was finishing with her dance practice. Usually she would have gone back to the room for a bath and a nice book, but since she was in the mood to meet new people she decided to go against the usual. Still clad in her practice kimono, Uzu made her way into the room just in time for the beginning of the meeting.

“I will join you then,” Uzu responded with a slightly forced smile as she neared the underclassman. She practiced the smile several times in the mirror since deciding to work on her friend making skills. Uzu hoped the petite smile was a good friend-making smile- cheerful, but not creepy. She wasn't really sure if she could see herself being great friends with a younger student, but if nothing else resulted from their interaction, she supposed he could serve as a good lab rat.

“I used to do archery back home,” Uzu answered, memories of Nikko bubbling up to the forefront of her mind. Although home was the last thing she wanted to think of now with all the gossiping going around. Her mother implied that it was something to do with the next heir to the family, but left it at that. Since Uzume was no longer playing Jun, the business of an heir wasn't her problem anymore. As a result she didn't try to pry for more information. "I haven’t done archery in a really long time, but I don’t think I have completely lost my skills,” she stated with pride, happily remembering her victory over Jamie.

“It’s your club,” she responded nonchalantly to his preference for the harder target. Uzu was there for a different reason after all. “I’m just trying it out, and not really working on any skills.” she shrugged with a grin to hide her true intentions. Although her attempts at being friendly were already starting to feel more genuine, all the unnecessary smiling felt a little foreign to the fifteen year old. She hoped that channeling the flamboyant Liac Reinhardt would help her come across as more friendly than odd, but on second thought perhaps it would make her seem even more weird.

"By the way, you are supposed to introduce yourself before starting a conversation," Uzu stated bluntly, falling back into old habits. "Or shall I just refer to you as underclassman?" she joked sarcastically. Even if she was trying to make friends with him, she couldn't pass up an opportunity to put the boy on edge. It made her feel a little better about putting herself out there.
