The eve before midterm... let the fun begin!
by Elly Eriksson
There were a couple of fantastic tansfigurations Elly had been working on, but due to her late research and her propensity to not pick up new spells for a long while meant that they were not yet ready to perform to the other students. Still, her puckish tendencies denied the possibility of not executing a prank for midterm. Unfortunatly, the time Elly had spent trying, but failing, to perfect her selected spells meant that she had nothing more prepared in time for midterm. In despeartion, she'd run to the library in the morning to track down that singing book which held charms for, amongst other things, dancing potatoes (which would undoubtedly amuse other students at dinner time). Sadly, some other kid had checked it out for the holidays, so Elly was left with very few options.
As the day dwindled to its end, Elly had mostly finished packing. She'd be going to stay with her mother for the first part of midterm, then hopefully visiting Caedence for the rest. She hadn't got any Christmas gifts for her friends yet, but hopefully her aunt would take her shopping in Hollabrunn before she left, so she could stock up. Despite her complaining, Elly was actually looking forward to visiting her mother in Austria. Last time she'd seen the rest of her relatives, Elly's cousins could barely talk; now they were twelve and eight, and might even be good fun. Not that they weren't fun before - one of the very few memories Elly had of her cousins was them covering the family dog in yellow post-it notes. Still, only her aunt spoke any English, and Elly's relationship with her own mother was notoriously bad, so she could perhaps be forgiven for being somewhat apprehensive of her stay.
Elly's stomach grumbled loudly, reminding her that it was very nearly time for the last meal of the year (unless one counted breakfast the next morning, but Elly decided not to). She ran a brush through her unusually neat hair - the first and last days either side of holidays were reason to make an effort - and threw on her uniform robe over a pink t-shirt with Big Bird on, and her black jeans. Elly retied the purple laces of her old white pumps and grabbed her essentials: her wand and four small bottles of bubble mixture.
When Elly got to the Cascade Hall, it was already half full of students. Excellent! Elly took a seat at her usual table and tried to look as innocent as possible. Muttering under her breath, Elly charmed each bottle one by one with the wingardium leviosa charm, and poured the contents into the waterfalls streaming down the walls of the so aptly named Hall. Within a few minutes, soft, shimmering bubbles began to escape from the water, floating aound the perimeter of the room and causing somewhat of a distraction. Trying hard not to giggle, Elly set about dishing herself some mushroom cannelloni.
