Tag Students of all Years! The Newspaper needs Quotes! by Laurie Cider

Laurie had allowed her quill a second chance to prove that second-rate did not always have to be a bad thing, but the titled Kwik-Kwill Note-Taker was most definitely a terrible knock-off. She was lucky if even half her words were matched verbatim; most of the time, the quill invented a story of its own, normally something of a sleazy nature. The quill had found its final home in the bottom of a waste basket back in her common room. She would have to rely on her own abilities for this task.

She had promised to write an article- hopefully, a short one- about the upcoming cultural fair. It was supposed to be a fun piece, mostly quote based, and needed to only include a little back-history. Echo's article was to carry the bulk of the background, a task that she hoped was made easier by the unnecessarily indepth history she had dug up from the library and from hounding (extremely) distant relatives with multiple letters (and the occasional culinary bribe). She had decided on the Cascade Hall as the best place to scrounge up varied interviewees. She wanted quotes from upper and lower classmen; she had to prove her journalistic stripes, after all, and Flatt was no easy man to impress.

Laurie dressed a touch more carefully than necessary for a Saturday morning. She braided back her sandy hair, straightened her collar, and ran a quick lint-removing charm over her corduroy pants. She hoped she didn't look intimidated; the idea of approaching her less familiar contemporaries, let alone older students was a bit daunting. Thankfully, she had the title of staff writer to hide behind, so she hoped today's task would be a simple one.

She walked into the Hall, timing her entrance for when lunch was in its full thrall. Approaching the first packed table, she withdrew her quill, a pad of easily flipped parchment (already titled with Name, Year, and House), and threw on a (hopefully) assured smile. "Hi," she greeted. "I'm doing a story for the new school paper, The Aronos, and I need some feedback on the upcoming cultural fair at the end of the year. Is it okay if I ask you a few questions?"

She directed her question to the table in full, which looked to be fairly mixed in terms of age and house. Hopefully, it would prove good fodder for quotes, otherwise, she would be called on to find some other kind of meat for the article. Her questions, while few, allowed for full responses.

Saul looked up as his lunch (largely untouched due to the fact that he'd been using his mouth for talking rather than eating, as often happened in his experience) to find himself looking at a younger year who he was pretty sure he'd seen before but not often enough for him to have picked up her name. When she introduced herself as an Aronos writer instead of giving her name, he still didn't know what to call her, but he immediately associated her with Talitha, who had already interviewed him earlier in the year. As Saul liked Talitha, and liked getting interviewed, he grinned brightly at the girl and immediately began volunteering answers to her questions.

To make sure he was credited correctly, he prefaced himself initially with his name, house, and year. "I'm Saul Pierce, fifth year Pecari, prefect and assistant Quidditch captain of the same."

1: Are you looking forward to the cultural fair?

"Oh, totally. This is going to be awesome. I've got like a billion ideas for a stall, but can't decide on just one. Echo'll prolly need help with his noveling fury one, or Brett with his soccering one, or the prefects are supposed to help out with refreshments, I think, and the family's coming up - we're totally all over fairs; everyone's coming this time, not just the Nowhere Men and Uncle Harvey - or I could do something with Briony, maybe, but I don't know what. Maybe interprettive drawing or ice skating or I dunno, something. But whatever happens, this is going to be the coolest thing ever because I don't even have to dress up for it." He paused and reconsidered. "Well, I might wear a costume depending on what I decide on doing. But that's completely different from dressing up like for the ball."

"Gotta be Simon. I mean. Seriously. He's my cousin, right? As funny as it would be to see Professor," Saul stopped, looked lost in thought for a moment, then shook his head, "No, nevermind, that's just scary. Let's stick with Simon, all right?"

3: What sort of booths are you looking forward to seeing?

"Oh, all of them. That's the best thing about a fair like this. You get to see loads of different things."

4: Do you plan to present a booth? If so, what kind?

"Uh, I think I covered that earlier. But the short answer is totally definitely and absolutely yes. I will have a booth. I just don't know what one yet."

5: How do you like the Midsummer Festivities so far?

"They're totally awesome."

6: If a kissing booth was allowed, who would you most like to see in it?

"Well, uh, I'd like to kiss Briony. Or maybe Pepper. But y'know, I wouldn't like them kissing everyone, right? So, I dunno."

7: What sort of act would you like to see the staff present at next year's Entertainment Showcase?

"No idea. Simon's a professional actor, musician, and stage magician, so I'm sure whatever they do, they'll do great. Y'know, I'd kinda like to see their rehearsals. Will Simon be bossing around the Headmaster, d'you think? I mean, he's the one who knows how to put on a show. I bet they'd do a mean Wizard of Oz skit, especially with all the elves around to play munchkins."
