Ginger had been experiancing video game withdrawl all over again. She had even got to use the internet when she was at home for midterm. She had been back in school for a while, and everything had been going rather slow. No one had talked to her, and she had not been able to find any of her little amount of friends that she had made over the first half of the term. She was afraid to approach Adam because he looked scared all the time. After the little attack he had in Care Of Magical Creatures, it made her feel bad about herself. She was afraid that it was her fault.
It was in the evening, and she didn't feel like being in the dorm room just to read her comic books. She sat in the corner of Cascade hall, with a comic book on her lap, and a plate of cookies next to her on a coffee table, and a glass of milk. She felt like she didn't fit in very well here. It could have been that she had not been very sociable. She curled up in the chair, and started reading her X men comic. Just then she heard someone sit down next to her. She didn't know what to say or do, so she looked up from her comic book, and gave the person a nervous smile. She knew that she would probably start stuttering again if she tried to talk.

"If you hadn't decided to hide my shoe, I would've had a proper dinner." Mia lightly scolded her cat as she entered Cascade Hall for a quick bite of something to eat. The school always seemed to have something around when you wanted it. Cascade Hall had a whole different feel when it wasn't completely crowded with students. It wasn't necessarily a better feel, it was just different. It was much quieter which actually felt kind of eerie. Silk trotted just behind Mia as she went over to the Pecari table to grab something and then go back to her room. She was actually kind of tired. Trying to catch Silk in the Labyrinth Gardens was harder work than one might think. Silk knew her way around the school better than Mia did and she knew the little turns and twists that Mia didn't even know existed.
Mia took a bowl and filled it with some grapes. She figured she could bring back the bowl the next morning or one of those little helper elves would take it back for her. She never asked them to do anything for her. They just kind of did it anyway when no one was looking. She turned to leave when she saw a girl in the corner by herself. Mia knew the girl was in Pecari. She had seen her about on a few occasions. Mia wasn't sure if she wanted to be alone or not, but she didn’t think it would hurt to just say hi. The girl was in her house after all and as far as Mia could tell with the X-men comic, the girl was a muggleborn like her. Unless people in the magic community read comic books too. Mia wasn’t sure. It didn’t seem that way though.
Mia held in a yawn and walked over to the girl slipping into the seat next to her, putting her bowl of grapes down. All she got from the girl was a little smile. Mia, knowing that she had been pretty shy in her first year which led to her not having many friends here at all (boy that made her feel kind of pathetic), could empathize. She relied on her best friends from home and she couldn’t even tell them she was a witch. Mia smiled back and snapped her fingers three times toward the Pecari table. Silk, who had been eyeing the food around the tables, looked over and came running. She jumped up on Mia's lap and Mia looked back at the girl.
"Hey, I'm Mia Kerova.” She introduced herself “I'm pretty sure I've seen you around the common room.” Silk swiped a paw at Mia’s bowl of grapes and Mia bopped her paw lightly “And this is Silk. You may have seen her running around like she owns the place.” Mia shrugged with a grin. “And you are?”
Mia popped a grape in her mouth as she waited for an introduction from the girl who seemed into comics. The only reason that made her a bit sick to her stomach was because of the small fact that her dad used to collect comics. Just something of a hobby of his but anything that reminded her of that man made her feel a little ill.\n\n
Ginger did remember seeing the girl around the common room a couple of times before. Ginger wasn't in the common room very often unless there weren't very many people in it. If there were a lot of people in the common room, she would go to her dormitory. If there were a lot of people in both she would go somewhere. She was afraid to be around so many people, because she was afraid that they would make fun of her for her hair, or the fact that she always read comic books. She was also trying to get used to the place.
She gave the girl that called herself Mia another nervous smile. She was happy that someone had talked to her. No one had talked to her in a while, it didn't depress her, but it made her feel a little lonely. She couldn't find Celia around.
Today Ginger wore a black short sleeve shirt with a character from final fantasy 7 on it. The character's name was Yuffie, and she had short brown hair with a green ninja headband. She girl also wore brown shorts and a green tank top. Her shirt said "A little of this. A little of that." She wore her usual pair of frayed blue jeans. She didn't spray her hair different colors as usual, instead she had her blond chin length hair in small little pigtails.
Ginger looked over at the cat when Mia acknowleged it. She did remember seeing the cat around the common room before. "Y-yeah I-I h-have a cat t-too," she mentally slapped herself in the head for stuttering. Ginger, "it's a small kitten named Cr-Cream." Cream did run around the common room every now and then when she wasn't sleeping.
Ginger reached for her glass of milk and took a small sip of it. Perhaps it would make her stutter a bit less. "I'm Ginger," she said, happy that she didn't stutter this time. \n\n
Mia deciphered the girl's sentence through her stuttering. Mia had to wonder what she was so nervous about. She didn't think she was all that threatening and neither was her cat. Mia just kept a casual smile and the girl seemed to relax. Silk perked up at the mention of another cat. Silk spent her time roaming the school and never came across another cat. She suddenly felt like she had to find this cat. Silk jumped down from Mia's lap and trotted out of Cascade Hall. Mia raised an eyebrow at her cat's retreating black and white back before shrugging and turning back to Ginger.
“Nice to meet you Ginger. You have a cat too? Well that ought to make Silk pretty happy. Cream is a nice name for a cat.” Mia remembered when Silk was a kitten. She was so skittish around everyone except Mia. Mia thought that was the coolest thing in the world when she was younger.
Mia noticed Ginger’s shirt. Mia was in her own casual attire of a black tee shirt and jeans. Her shirt had some scattered rhinestones and glitter to look like shooting stars. Ginger’s shirt had a character on it that was vaguely familiar. The character looked like a character from a video game her brother had played once.
“So you’re a cat lover, a comic lover, and a gamer? You and my brother would probably get along if he wasn’t such a jerk.” Mia laughed. “She’s from one of those Final Fantasy games right?” Mia indicated to Ginger’s shirt. “I play videogames sometimes, but I’ve never played those. Isaiah probably played them all. Isaiah is one of my brothers.” Mia took a few more grapes.
“Do you have any siblings you can beat in video games too…even though I rarely beat my brother.” Mia laughed again, popping another grape in her mouth.\n\n
Ginger was starting to feel more comfortable around Mia. She was really nice to her. Ginger nodded when Mia asked her if she had a cat too. "You'll n-notice her," she said starting to stutter a little less than she was before. "She's probably the s-smallest cat around the common room," she blinked her green eyes, and took a chocolate chip cookie from the plate of cookies on the coffee table. She gave Mia another nervous smile when she said that Cream awas a good name for a cat. "Y-yeah when you see her, it's kind of obvious why I named her that," which it was, Cream's coat was a perfect little Cream color.
She broke the cookie apart in her hand, and dunked half of it in the milk. She placed the small bit inside of her mouth, it pretty much disolved. She loved cookies. If she was comfortable enough around Mia, she would have licked the little amount of chocolate off of her fingers. Instead, she wiped off the chocolate with a napkin. Her comic book was laid across her lap.
She cracked another small amile that didn't look very nervous when Mia said "“So you’re a cat lover, a comic lover, and a gamer?" It was true, she loved cats, comics, and she deffinatly was a gamer. She nodded sweetly, her eyes were a little wide. This girl had to be muggle born just like her! It was wonderful that she had found such common ground with someone. Finally, a Pecari that didn't intimidate her. Celia or Saul didn't intimidate her very much, but they didn't talk to her very often either.
Ginger's eyes widened even more when Mia recognized her shirt. It was nuts! That was a very old final fantasy game as well. "Yeah," she said, "Final Fantasy 7! Yuffie! She's also in Kingdom hearts." Her smile widened, this was great. "Yeah I've played most of them too," she said after Mia told Ginger about her brother, and video games.
"Well my little brother plays Mario with me and stuff, but he's eight years old," she shrugged."However, me and my cousin Mendelson are evenly matched. He's pretty good, he's a wizard too, but he's going to Salem next year."

Mia was glad to see Ginger lighten up. This little chat actually reminded her of when she would sit with Megan and just talk sometimes. She didn't have that leisure as mcuh anymore since she was away at school. Mia thought about it a moment when Ginger said Cream was probably the smallest cat in the common. As far as Mia could tell, Cream was the smallest cat around the common room since she was the only other cat Mia knew was there besides for Silk and Silk was no longer a kitten. She was a fair sized cat.
Ginger seemed really excited that Mia knew who that character, Yuffie, was.
"Yeah, I thought I knew her. I never played Final Fanstasy, but I've played Kingdom Hearts. I never got a chace to finish though. The game kept freezing before I could finish. I saw my brother finish it though. Cruddy game worked for him but not me." Mia grumbled jokingly. "Nah, but it was a good game."
Ginger went on about her own brother and her cousin. So she had family that were wizards? Lucky. Mia would love to have someone else to tell. Only her immediate family knew, but they weren't wizards.
"Well I'm not so bad at videogames, but I'm not obsessed like my brother is. I can beat him sometimes, but there's no doubt that he's a lot better than me. If only we could play here, but apparently magic interferes with electronics. If my brother was a wizard, he'd probably stay at regular school just so he wouldn't have to spend a year away from his precious videogames. Is your cousin the only one in your family with magic besides you?"
Silk trotted back in to Cascade Hall with an envelope in her mouth as Mia spoke to Ginger. Silk jumped onto Mia's lap and curled up. Apparently even Silk had her limit to activity for one day. Mia instinctively started petting her, not taking notice of the envelope. \n\n

Ginger took another bite of her chocolate chip cookie after she dunked it in milk again. She was happy that she had stopped stuttering, but it was hard for her to stutter when the conversation was about video games. Ginger would stop stuttering with a complete stranger on the street if the person started talking to her about video games. Even though Mia was a bit of a stranger, Ginger had a feeling that Mia wouldn't stay that way much longer.
Ginger frowned when Mia explained the irony of the Kingdom hearts game. "Man that must have been terrible," she said. "Kingdom hearts is a really really good game. I just don't like what they did to a couple of the final fantasy characters. Like Cid, he's the owner of the shop in Traverstown, and you know how he has the thing of wheat in his mouth? He's supposed to have a cigarette. I hated that, disney changed that. " She frowned, "it has a sad ending doesn't it? I think my mom and dad are getting me kingdom hearts 2 for my present for enduring a year here." She smiled again, and took a sip of milk.
When Mia said "I'm not obsessed like my brother is," Ginger giggled. "I'm pretty obsessed with video games. I just about threw a fit when I found out my P.S.P, or any of my gameboys wouldn't work. I wish electronics would work too, I'd be able to watch adult swim." She said happily, "Do you watch that?"
When Mia told her about her brother, and how he would stay at muggle- school just for his video games. "I just stuck it out," she said. "It was really hard though, but I wanted to start anew anyway. I got made fun of at my old school." Then Mia asked her about her cousin. "Well my aunt's a witch, and we don't know if my little brother is a wizard. He's only 8."
Mia stroked her cat and listened to Ginger. She was upset about the changes on some of the characters in Kingdom Hearts. Mia never noticed since she had hadn't seen the characters in their respective games.
"Well of course they weren't going to give that guy a cigarette. It's mostly a kid's game. I know what you mean though. I hate when things are changed from the original if they don't have to be." Mia ate another one of her grapes. "My brother is probably getting Kingdom Hearts 2 for his birthday which is all the way in October, unless he pays for it himself. I don't know if he will though. He's more into those army games or the spy games. Those are his favorites. He'd pay for those."
Mia laughed when Ginger went on about how she was obsessed with videogames. Mia shook her head when she was asked if she watched Adult Swim.
"I don't really watch TV so much. I'm usually either reading, on the computer with my friends, at my friends' houses, or playing videogames with or without my brother. I watch TV sometimes though, but I guess Adult Swim isn't on when I'm watching."
"Well you're made of tougher stuff than my brother." Mia laughed again when Ginger said she'd stick out a year without electronics. "I wasn't exactly miss popular at my old school either. Most of the kids ignored me and my friends. We weren't like, nerds or anything. We just kept to ourselves because no one else said anything to us. If people were nice to us, we were nice to them, but we were mostly ignored which was cool with us. As long as no one was rude to any of us. Then Megan and Jill and the boys would give them problems." Mia smiled as she recollected over times with her best friends where it didn't seem funny at the time but thinking back on it, it was actually hilarious.
Silk moved on Mia's lap making the corner of the envelope dig into Mia's wrist painfully under her silver charm bracelet.
"Ouch Silk." Mia pulled her arm away thinking it was one of her cat's claws. Mia looked down and noticed the envelope. She picked it up and saw the to and from that was typical of the person who wrote it.
To: Mia From: Mom
"Finally!" Mia exclaimed to herself and then looked back up at Ginger. "I have to go answer my mom's letter. It was nice to meet you. I'll see you around." Mia put Silk on the ground and stood. She waved to Ginger before starting out of Cascade Hall, ripping open the letter quickly and reading it to herself. Silk followed sleepily behind her.\n\n
