Emer clung to her tote bag, feeling the comforting presence of her favorite book bouncing heavily against her thigh with every step. This place was so... she couldn’t even think of a way to describe it! It was beyond anything she could have hoped to have written in a story; it was... “Brilliant,” she whispered, glancing upward at a row of glimmering crystal chandeliers. She spent a few moments contemplating whether those sparkling lights were just white, enchanted flames, or fairies. Fairies, she decided.
Somewhere ahead, her name was called in a sharp tone. Emer knew that tone far too well; it meant she’d been called several times before, and hadn’t responded. It happened quite often, so she knew that she’d better hurry and answer before the owner of the voice became angry.
“Here!” she said, squeezing through the crowd of students who all seemed to be quite a bit taller than her. No surprise there, either. She was handed a small vial and told to drink. She looked up anxiously, met a look of exasperated authority, and quickly downed it. For a long moment, she hesitated, holding her breath. She didn’t feel any different. At least, she wasn’t in pain.
Of course, you idiot, she thought to herself. Why would a teacher poison you?
She stepped away so the next student could drink their vial, secure in the knowledge that everything was all right... until she caught sight of her hands, of course.
Rob walked over and looked around at everyone in the Cascade Hall. It looked like all the new Teppenpaw's, the ones covered in yellow, were all girls. 'Just great,' he thought. 'On the bright side though, girls are fun to be with too.' Rob thought fondly of his cousin, who was his age. She and Rob had always been close, but now she was in Miami, and he at Sonora.
It looked like Rob would have to make some new friends then. He had already been sorted, and turned bright yellow. He had wandered through the hall, and introduced himself to a couple of people. He wasn't sure if his voice was working properly though. He was still nervous. He saw someone who had just left the sorting and were currently staring incredulously at their yellow hands. Rob walked over to her hesitantly.
"Hi. I'm Rob. Looks like we're both yellow huh?"\n\n
She started, surprised at being addressed. A boy of her own age stood in front of her—and he was just as yellow as she was! She blinked and looked around at the rest of the students gathered in the magnificent hall; most of the older ones still looked human, but the rest of them had seemingly been transformed into human crayons.
“Oh. This was supposed to happen,” she mused aloud.
Only then did she remember the boy standing in front of her. Blushing profusely, she held out one of her daffodil-yellow hands. She hated daffodils. They made her sneeze. This couldn’t be a good omen! “Er. Hi. I’m Emer. I guess... well, yes, we’re both yellow, aren’t we?” She hesitated. “What exactly does that mean, again? I kind of... well... wasn’t paying attention.”

Rob smiled at the girl in front of him, Emer. He brushed his hair out of his eyes again, annoyed that it always chose to settle there, then sat down at the table next to him. He looked up at Emer, and then remembered hearing her ask a question.
“What exactly does that mean, again? I kind of... well... wasn’t paying attention,” Emer had said. Rob laughed.
"It's a lot to take in. The only reason I was paying atteention at all is because I'm muggleborn, so it's like being in a new world. Umm. From what the headmaster said, it was umm, what was it- Oh yeah. Red for Crotalus, Blue for Aladren, Brown for Pecari, and Yellow for Teppenpaw. So it looks like we're Teppenpaws then I guess. Although I look more like Bart Simpson..." Rob mused. "So what do you think of the place? It looks like this should be fun, huh?"

Briony saw a couple of yellow-colored, similiar to herself, students talking. She decided to introduce herself. Never to early to try and make friends. Especially, considering these would be her House mates for the next seven years.
She reached them in time to hear the boy asking that the place looks like fun. She pushed the crimson red hair out of her eyes, so she could see better.
"I think it'll be fun. Hi! Sorry, to interrupt, but wanted to introduce myself since we're in the same House. I'm Briony O'Leary," she said cheerfully.\n\n
Rob waited to hear Emer's thoughts about Sonora, but turned when he heard someone else's voice. It belonged to a redhead, who was also looking a bit yellowish too. Another Teppenpaw. Another girl Teppenpaw, Rob thought with a laugh. Rob was glad he wasn't uncomfortable with girls like his friend from elementary. Rob swore he still said girls had "cooties." He glanced at the redhead and listened to what she had to say.
"I think it'll be fun. Hi! Sorry, to interrupt, but wanted to introduce myself since we're in the same House. I'm Briony O'Leary," she said cheerfully.
Rob smiled and held his hand out to her.
"I hope so, and don't worry about interrupting, it's ok. At least, I think so," he said, shooting a glance at Emer. Rob returned to his plate and gathered food onto it.
"Have a seat if you'd like. Us Teppenpaws should stick together. I'm Rob, Rob Stone," Rob replied, grinning. It looked like making friends here wouldn't be as hard as he originally thought. He patted the seat next to him.
She smiled gratefully at the boy who spoke. Briony slid into the seat next to him. The smell of his food made her realize how starved she was. She took some fried wings, her favorite food before replying.
"Well, what would you like to know?" Then, before she gave him a chance to reply, she put in a mouthful, "I come from a small family, just my dad and me. We weren't sure where I would be attending school until recently, because of his job. Oh, and I love flying and the color green. And I'm looking forward to classes. What about you?"\n\n
Rob stifled a laugh as Briony grabbed some food and slid into the seat next to him.
"Well, what would you like to know?" she asked. Rob opened his mouth to answer but Briony beat him to it.
"I come from a small family, just my dad and me. We weren't sure where I would be attending school until recently, because of his job. Oh, and I love flying and the color green. And I'm looking forward to classes. What about you?" Rob raised an eyebrow.
"Well, I was with my mom and dad, only child, you know how it is. Muggleborn of course. So I only found out about all of this," Rob waved his hand around the hall, "recently. I read about what I could and my parents were happy for me. We went shopping and everything. Got my wand at Allivan's too. Nice guy. I got a letter asking if I wanted to come here and everything was explained. And now here I am. And let's see, the color blue is awesome, although I think I'll be liking yellow now too. And, I used to play soccer, so I'm not really sure about Quidditch. Sounds great. I've heard of it but I've never actually played it. I wasn't good at baseball so I wouldn't want to be a beater. Maybe seeker or chaser. Or even keeper. I've never been on a broom though. You'll have to teach me sometime. I'm a little excited about being here, if you can tell."
Rob smiled sheepishly, realizing he had been talking for awhile, and returned to his food, not really noticing what he was eating. Half the time it didn't even make it to his mouth. He was too busy staring around the Hall, looking at the beautiful waterfalls, the shiny white floors, and the crystal chandeliers, which seemed to match his eyes. He brushed some hair out of his eyes and then remembered something he wanted to ask.
"I'm not sure of all the classes that we have to take. I know there is Defense Against the Dark Arts. My dad said I had to take it even if it was optional. I think he's just worried that no one will be in his classes," she said with a roll of the eyes.
"I want to take as many classes as possible though. I want to learn, as much as I can," she told him. "This place is amazing, isn't it? I wonder what the dorms will look like? I wonder what other Houses look like?"\n\n
Rob stared at Briony. the phrase "no one will be in his classes" stood out.
"Your dad teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts? Wow. I'm not sure if I feel jealous or if I feel bad for you. Well I'm guessing are classes will be all together huh?" Rob ended hopefully. He didn't want to be separated from his new friends already. Today, Rob decided with a grin, was a good day.\n\n
"Yeah, that's why we had to wait and see where his job was going to be. New schools always make him a bit nervous, which I now understand," she said wistfully.
Suddenly, she placed her hand over her mouth at the realization of what she was supposed to do.
"I suggest you cover your ears," she told her new friend.
Then, she gave an ear piercing whistle, not really caring if everyone stopped to look at them. She had promised Pepper that she would whistle once she found their table in the midst of the crowded hall.
She then turned back to Rob, letting him know he could uncover his ears.
"Sorry, about that. I had to let Pepper know where I was. She's in Tepp too," she said apologetically. "If we have our classes together, then she'll be in them too."\n\n
"Yeah, that's why we had to wait and see where his job was going to be. New schools always make him a bit nervous, which I now understand," Briony had said. Rob nodded along, agreeing with what she had said. He opened his mouth to say so, but Briony beat him to it once again.
"I suggest you cover your ears," she said.
Rob, looking at her strangely, did so nonetheless, and was thankful he did, because Briony let out a high pitched whistle that still hurt Rob's ears, even though they were covered. She let him know he could uncover his ears, and Rob did so, wincing when the sound was raised back up from the hall.
"Sorry, about that. I had to let Pepper know where I was. She's in Tepp too," she said apologetically. "If we have our classes together, then she'll be in them too." Rob smiled, knowing his new friend would probably be in his class, and then turned to Briony.
"No problem, thanks for warning me though, my ears are still ringing even thoguh they were covered," Rob said with a laugh. He looked up and saw someone walking in there direction. "I guess that's her huh? Pepper's new to Sonora too then or-?\n\n
Pepper was a little surprised by Briony's sudden departure. She wasn't sure what kind of signal she was meant to make if she found the table first, and would honestly have preferred a longer search, but being safe in the company of at least one other Teppenpaw, especially as the tell tale colours were now fading from people's skin. Given that she couldn't whistle very loudly, and she doubted that her cries of 'Hey Briony' would make it over the hall, she followed the direction her friend had taken as closely as she could.
She was still nearby when Briony whistled, and made her way over to the table properly in time to hear the end of Rob's question.
"Pepper's new to Sonora too," she nodded, "And to magic being real," she added, as she sat down, so that Rob had a red head either side of him.
'And to being away from her family,' she thought to herself, a little sadly. She supposed Briony's life should give her some perspective, and make her glad that her family were all alive and well, even if they were far away.
"I guess you must be a Teppenpaw and this must be the Teppenpaw table then?" she asked the boy, having missed his and Briony's introductions.
OOC please try to avoid getting involved in simultaneous threads. I know you found a way to fix it, but if you look at Pepper's first post, I said she was seated at the Teppenpaw table. The ways of patching threads like this together tend to be a bit convoluted - I found my first paragraph really hard to write, because the actions I had to have Pepper do didn't seem to make much sense. Sorry if it sounds like I'm having a go at you, I'm just trying to help those who are new to RPing.\n\n
"I know. I thought it had to be a joke at first. But then there was just so much... No one in my family has time to execute all that! Well, maybe Demetrius," she thought out loud.
"And..." said Pepper, considering his question. She stared around the Hall, gesturing vaguely with a hand. All of it... There was so much to suddenly take in, just in this room alone, so many new experiences. How could she possibly sum them up in a few little words of English? All the adjectives she could think of seemed liked understatement. Eventually shrugged, "It's amazing, isn't it?" she tried. Rob was new to this too. She was sure she couldn't be the only one so awed - and made unsure - by it all.
"I'm sure we'll get used to it eventually though," she said, more used to phrasing things as comforts to others than as her own doubts.
"Where are you guys from anyway?" she asked, a change of topic seeming in order. It was always good to distract whoever was anxious from what they were anxious about. Even if the person you were doing it to comfort was yourself. \n\n

Rob thought about what Pepper said. It would take a lot to get used to. Sometimes, Rob thought he would wake up and realize it was all a dream, that none of this was real. It was all he could do to stop himself from pinching his arm to see if this was a dream come true, or just a dream. Rob had followed Pepper's hand, and just gazed at the magnificence of the hall. It was the most beautiful thing Rob had ever seen. Rob was shaken out of his reverie by Pepper.
"Where are you guys from anyway?" she asked. Rob looked up and thought about that for all of a second.
"Texas," he said with a proud smile. "It's great, but this place is just well, breathtaking. It's tough to compare them. To each their own right?"
Rob went back to imagining himself actually using magic. Magic! The thought alone was enough to excite Rob, even if he was sadder than the sky on a rainy day.

"I'm from Colorado," Pepper replied. "So not so far away, I guess..." she said, with a sort of smile. "Tough to compare, yeah," she agreed. For all that, geographically, she wasn't as far from home as finding a magic school could have taken her, it felt like a million miles. She and her family were now worlds apart, and it felt a little like - even if they lived next door - she wouldn't be able to see them. There would be a force field between the two. She'd always been an integral part of her family, and now she felt like she'd been stigmatised and seperated from it. She was different to them, and away from them.
"Do you miss your family at all?" she asked, her voice wavering slightly. Her steering away from the topic that made her sad wasn't exactly working. She guessed nothing would, because she could probably find a connection between most things and one of her siblings, especially when they were weighing so much on her mind.
She helped herself to some chicken with peppers and broccoli while they spoke. J.J always refused to eat his brocolli, which, of course, meant G.J wouldn't either. She bit her lip. Missing them was one thing, and fair enough, but missing the struggles she had with them was absolutely stupid. But she still did. Glad as she should have been to be getting a break, it didn't help right at that moment. \n\n

Rob just sat at the table, already having finished eating, and had already watched as students from the other houses left to their common rooms. He just sat in a daze, listening to Pepper and Briony. Pepper had just said she was from Colorado. Rob had always wanted to got Colorado.
"Does it snow in Colorado?" He wondered aloud. He immeadiately knew it was a stupid question the second it left his lips. "a lot?" he added, in hopes to regain some dignity. Rob was struck hard by her question though.
"Do you miss your family at all?" Pepper asked.
Rob thought long and hard about her question.
"Not yet, but I think I will soon enough. I really miss my cousin though, Malea. She moved to Florida, so I haven't gotten to see her for awhile. We're only two weeks apart, and we would always be together. I'm an only child so, it's just me. I'll miss my parents soon enough I expect. Probably in one or two days I imagine. It just hasn't really hit home yet you know?" \n\n
