Deciding to take the longer route to the Aladren Common Room so that she could show the students where some of the classrooms were to prevent them from getting lost on their way to class, Diana soon realized that now they might get lost trying to find Cascade Hall in the morning. She shook her head to herself, making a note not to do the speech like this next year. While she was at it though, she might as well do the whole school, so she took them by the MARS room, explaining its many uses as well as past the entrance to the Labyrinth Gardens.
“And now to the Library,” she announced, leading them towards the common room. Once they arrived, she pointed out various bookshelves and decorations that could aid in a quicker return to the common room. “Don’t worry if you forget the way though,” Diana said as they reached the entrance. “All you have to do is find Birds of Prey . It is via this book that you will enter the common room.” She reached up and pulled on the book letting it reveal the entrance.
She stepped aside, ushering the younger students in, doing a quick head count to make sure she hadn’t lost any on the winding walk through the school, and slipped in behind them. “This is the place you will call home. The curfew is 10pm, but if you wish to stay up later than for studying or socializing purposes, this common room is well-equipped for that.” She gave the first years a friendly smile as she nodded towards the couches and bookshelves. “Just please keep in mind that others may wish to sleep or are studying and to keep the noise level to a minimum.”
“Because you will be here for the next seven years and it is a relatively small school, I advise you to try your best to get along with your housemates. You do not have to like them but at least displaying civility will make things a lot easier. If you do find yourself having any problems- social or otherwise there are various people you can come to for help. Of course, as your Head of House I will be more than willing to give anyone a helping hand if I am able. However, I will not always be available. If such is the case you may go to your house prefects, Lucian D’Alesandro, Anthony Carey, and Francesca Wolseithcrafte, or the Head Boy, James Carey.”
As she finished, Diana stepped aside to reveal the notice board. “Here students will post things like Quidditch sign-ups. The Aladren Quidditch Captain is also Mr. Carey, and you can expect those to go up soon. Anyone is welcome to try out regardless of age or skill so I encourage you all to give it a try even if you aren’t the best at Quidditch. It’s always good to try out new things and it could be a fun way to get to know your housemates.”
“Now, the last thing before I turn you loose,” said Diana, changing her friendly voice to a stern one to make sure the students knew what she was about to say was important. “Do not, I repeat, do not reveal the location nor the way of access of the Aladren common room to any other students.” She smiled once more. She was a generally friendly teacher, but when explaining the rules she was firm and no-nonsense. “Now then, are there any questions?”
OOC – Welcome to your new house! If you have questions, feel free to reply to Professor Yu, otherwise settle in, meet your room-mates or do as you please. As stated in Cascade Hall, you are now free to post on any board besides the common rooms of other houses. Have fun, I hope you enjoy your time at Sonora!
