Daniel was in the closet of the Sixth Year Boy's dorm. Though most of the time, he walked around the school wearing the uniform robes, he did have a wide array of clothing available to him. He hadn't done a full inventory of his roommate's belongings, but he thought it was at least possible that his wardrobe was larger than all of theirs put together. Though it was dwarfed by the size of Holly's, Daniel was of the opinion that this was like saying the Earth was dwarfed by Jupiter.
Earth was still pretty big. Using the same scale, he estimated Quentin, Juri, and James Anthony between them might have Mars. Possibly the Moon or Pluto. Maybe, if any of them had significantly more than what Daniel understood was normal for an average teenaged guy, they might collectively have Venus or another Earth.
In the back of his closet, where the expanding charms had quadrupled its size from a normal closet to a walk-in variety, was where he kept the never worn clothes that his dad or Barry seemed to think every boy needed. Most similar articles of clothing had eventually been given to Goodwill unworn, but they remained either blind or optimistic (Daniel wasn't entirely sure the cause of this delusion) that maybe this was the year Daniel would decide he wanted to wear jeans that some factory worker attacked with a dull knife (not an entirely unfounded response, in Daniel's opinion) and t-shirts.
He took out one of each, frowned at them and suppressed a shudder at the idea of wearing them where people would see. This was not the kind of impression he wanted to make. But he was resolved. He took off first his school robe. Then he took off his tie.
Then he decided that was enough of a first step for today. He went back out into the dorm wearing only his black trousers and a button down blue shirt. And the hideous green flip-flops he'd transfigured in the MARS room earlier. Depending on how badly his roommates reacted, he would consider wearing the same down to dinner tonight.
Little steps first. He'd work down to the jeans and t-shirt.
