Irene made her way towards Professor K's office, a slight bounce in her step. She felt so light now that things were resolved. After she had actually finished reading the letter it had stated that there was now a restraining order against her father. She was finally safe!
Irene felt she had to thank Professor K for all of her help and concern. She hadn't been in class recently, but Irene thought she'd check... Irene really thought that everything was thanks to her. She had talked to Bulla and that had led to those, admittedly awkward, interviews. But all those things led up to her, she liked to call it 'freedom'.
Irene reached the office and knocked on the door, calling out, "Professor K? Big news! Are you in there?"

Kiva's sunburn was seriously bothering her. She felt like her skin was on fire. Everything she wore was uncomfortable. She was constantly putting aloe on her burn to make it feel better, but having to do all the work she does for her animals, she usually just made it worse.
Her body was still angry with her for all the de-gnoming she had done not that long before, but there was no turning back time. It wasn't as easy as she thought it would be coming back to work. She thought that she could just slip back in as though she hadn't missed three months. Sadly, that wasn't the case. She had missed quite a bit.
The knock on her door surprised her a bit. She knew most of the students were going to hear she had returned, but she didn't think she would have so many visitors so quickly. The voice on the otherside of the door was familiar. This was one of the students Kiva had spent days worrying about before the loss of the father.
With a wave of her wand, her door opened. "Yes Irene? What's the news?"
The door opened to reveal Professor K inside the office. Irene supposed that was an invitation to come in, so she stepped inside. It was great to have her back! She definitely liked her more than the sub. Not that she was horrible or anything, just not nearly as good. Prof. K had a red color spreading across her skin.
"Get some sun?" She said smiling at her.
"Yes Irene? What's the news?"
Irene grinned at her and dove into her story. "Well, this guy from the Wizarding Council came here and interviewed me on what's happening at home and all that. I think that he interviewed Uncle Mike and Dad too," Irene said excitedly.
"So recently I got a letter on how everything went..." She paused for dramatic effect. "I get to stay with my Uncle! And, even better, they put a restraining order on Damon! I don't have to worry about him anymore! Everything can be normal now!"
Irene looked to her feet, shifting a little. She looked back up at Professor K. "I just wanted to say, thanks for everything. You started all of this and its most definitely one of the best things that has ever happened to me!"
Irene continued to grin at her. "I would hug you, but that sunburn looks pretty painful," she said, gesturing to her skin.
"I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything."
Irene hoped she expressed herself clearly. She had certainly talked for a while. But Professor K had just changed her life! Gratitude didn't seem to express what she felt well enough. She just wished she could find the word...
Kiva watched as Irene stepped into her office. The girl, despite all of her worries and past history, still could smile just as brightly as if her world had never been darkened before. It was very admirable. She wished more students had this girl's attitude towards life.
"Oh, just a bit." Kiva responded with a sheepish grin. She hoped the students all didn't think she had gone off on some vacation when the truth was, she had gotten the sunburn while de-gnoming the Labyrinth Gardens. She didn't need any rumors going around about her lack of work or anything. She had certainly been away for a long time, but it wasn't for a vacation.
Kiva listened quietly as Irene told her what had happened during midterms. It was strange how something that clearly would have made anyone uncomfortable or ashamed, made Irene so happy. Kiva smiled when Irene finished.
"I'm so glad everything worked out for you." Kiva said quietly. Kiva moved so that she was closer to Irene, "I'm sorry we had to put you through all that, but we had to take the necessary steps in order to be sure that you were safe." Kiva apologized to Irene. She wasn't quite sure why the young girl was thanking her for what had happened, but at least it all worked out for the best.
Irene listened as Professor K spoke. She apologized for the interviews, but Irene shook her head.
"No, no. Don't apologize. It all worked out for the best," Irene said with a smile. "Really, without you everything would have stayed as it was for a whole lot longer. The people in the suits would never have been contacted. I'm glad that push was given. I think we needed it," Irene said.
Irene decided that this situation definitely called for a hug. It seemed like something out of a movie and Irene was getting caught up in it. Irene hugged the Professor around the waist, at the same time saying, "I'm sorry about the sunburn!" Irene let go quickly, not wanting to bother the irritated skin.
Irene headed towards the door, waving as she walked backwards.
"Thanks for everything! Aloe vera for that sunburn!" Irene said grinning. With a last wave, Irene closed the door softly behind her.
