Morgana stared around her new common room in awe. The walk up had scared her slightly; how would she ever get anywhere in this place? Then, of course, Gunther had freaked her out just a bit as well, but she knew she would eventually get used to the portrait. Now, though, as Professor Skies finished her speech, Morgana began to get scared for an entirely different reason.
She knew that once Professor finished her speech everyone would be free to socialize or go up to their dorms. The prospect of socialization frightened her beyond belief. No one had so much as glanced at her during dinner, and now she would have to go up to her new room and meet the person she would be sharing a room with. She nervously tucked a stray raven curl behind her ear with her hazel eyes flicked nervously from person to person in an attempt to find a friendly face.
Morgana quickly found the girl that had been sorted not long after her and had seemed less than happy about something. She wanted to talk to her but was rather afraid of being shut down. It wasn't that she had no confidence in herself, but she didn't want to spend the entire year alone. If she was honest with herself, she didn't really care who she talked to as long as she had someone to talk to.
Taking a deep breath, Morgana began to mentally prepare herself in order to quickly begin talking to someone as soon as the speech was over. She heard Professor Skies ask for any questions and opened her eyes to the room. As soon as Professor dismissed them, she turned to the person nearest to her. "H-hi!" she said in a breathy, shaky voice and a nervous smile. "I'm Morgana Bennet from California."

It was his second year at Sonora and despite his doing well in school last year, especially in DADA and Transfiguration, his parents still wouldn't let him play Quidditch, though they had encouraged him to keep up with the Fencing Club if it was held again this year. Tristan had enjoyed it well enough, but he really didn't understand why that activity was okay but not Quidditch. Why didn't his parents want him to play when they allowed him to go after Arabella with a sharp pointy sword, even if she did seem to beat him every time.
It could not possibly be for safety reasons. Fencing was dangerous too and he was in far more danger from the sixth year than she was from him given her higher level of experience. Or maybe it was those with less experience that were more dangerous because they didn't know what they were doing. Either way, he couldn't see how Quidditch was any worse, especially now that that infamous group of Aladrens had graduated.
This was probably why Tristan had gotten Most Logical in the yearbook. He could obviously see the holes in any possible reason his parents could have had for not allowing him to play. He played with his cousins on his dad's side and nobody had an issue with that. Yet, he wasn't allowed at school when he could only be an asset to the Crotalus team.
He was going to sit down and have a nice talk with his parents and point out to them why they were wrong. It was highly unlikely that he'd get in trouble for such a thing. His parents had never done anything but treat him like a prince, more apt to yell at Kira than him. Not that they yelled at her a lot, just more than they did at him. At worst, he was gently reminded to be nice to people who had had a harder time than he did and told that just because he was an heir did not mean he was going to be treated special at places like school, where there were probably other heirs as well. Even if some cousin of his was going to be the next Headmaster. They told him that there were certain things one had to do to be a great wizard and Tristan accepted that. Accepting not playing Quidditch, the thing in life that he had the most passion for, was a harder thing for him. It was something he'd always dreamed of doing, at least at school. When he was an adult, he'd probably have to do something boring, so why couldn't he have fun now?
"H-hi, I'm Morgana Bennet from California."
Tristan blinked when one of the first year girls approached him out of the blue, taking him out of his thoughts. "Tristan Spaulding, of the Colorado Spauldings." Unlike her voice, which was shaking, his was self-assured and confident. He couldn't imagine why she was so nervous, unless she found him attractive. Which was most likely, as he was."Pleasure to meet you, Miss Bennet." Weren't the Bennetts in California? She had to be one of them."Are you any relation to Paul Bennett?"

Ariel sighed in relative relief when she and the other first years were called to follow their HOH to their new home. She hadn't really minded being insulted by the other girl who she had sat beside during dinner. She was used to the insults. She had just rolled her eyes and only half listened. It made surviving six older sisters that much easier. She basically just ignored most of her family. Ariel glanced around curiously as she and the other first year crotali followed the HOH towards their new prison. Ariel couldn't speak for the others, she definitely felt as though she were being punished for something.
Ariel glanced around as the group came to a halt in front of a hideously grotesque painting. Ariel gazed at the painting uncertainly as their HOH explained how "he" was apparently supposed to be treated. She's kidding, right? Ariel wondered to herself as she continued to stare at the unnerving portrait. She was glad when the portrait moved and allowed them to enter the room beyond. She stepped inside and audibly let out a surprised gasp. The room reminded the girl of her grandparents living room back in England. "Wow," she said softly as she looked around. It was hard for her to admit that she actually liked this room. For a prison cell...it was awful nice. She glanced around and was surprised she didn't see her new "friend" right away. She shrugged and moved from her spot to get a better look around. She stopped to glance at a portrait that was up on the wall behind on of her other housemates. She glanced over to see one of the other new Crotalus girls walking towards where Ariel was standing. Ariel was about to say something to her when she began talking to the older boy near her. Ariel half listened to them introduce themselves to eachother. She found herself a little intrigued to learn that the girl was from California.
Ariel waited for the boy to introduce himself before she spoke. She missed what he had said after his name due to being a little lost in her own thoughts at the time. She piped in with her own name and asked Morgana a question of her own. "Hi," she greeted them. "Sorry if I'm intruding...it's just that I heard you say that you're from California," she addressed Morgana. "I was curious what part of California you are from." She offered the two of them an awkward smile of sorts. "Its a pleasure to meet you both. I'm Ariel. I believe you and I are roommates," she told Morgana.

Morgana held her breath as the boy she had spoken to blinked in surprise at her random introduction. She was half prepared to walk away with a self-loathing mantra beginning in her head when she heard him reply with his name and where he was from.
Morgana froze as a thousand thoughts swarmed her head at once. The part that spoke like her mother was eagerly trying to place the name “Spaulding” in a mental list of rich and/or influential families, the part that spoke like her father was encouraging her to smile and look like “the pretty little girl” she was, and part of her was tempted to run for her dorm without another word. Still, there was a tiny part of her left that registered the fact that Tristan had also asked her a question.
She quickly ran through her list of cousins (it was rather lengthy on her mother’s side after all), but then she realized that for her to share a last name with this Paul it would have to be a relative of her dad’s; she mentally slapped herself for being so slow. Now, though, she faced the question of how to answer. She knew that being related to pureblood families was very important, but she refused to lie; she was who she was, and that was the end of it.
She had just opened her mouth to reply, when another person joined the conversation. The girl introduced herself with an awkward smile as Ariel and Morgana’s roommate. Well, at least she had met her roommate, and she seemed willing to be friendly; Morgana had been quite worried about that part. Ariel had asked her a question as well, and now Morgana’s nerves had quieted somewhat. With two people talking to her, she felt that there wasn’t near as much hinging on each response. Besides, not all of her mother’s training had gone to waste, and her practiced manners were beginning to surface. She turned so that she was facing both Tristan and Ariel before addressing Tristan first.
“It’s very nice to meet you, Tristan, and no I’m not related to Paul. I don’t have that many cousins on my dad’s side, so it’s easier to keep track.”
She then turned to Ariel with a much more relaxed smile than hers. “It’s nice to meet you, Ariel! You’re not intruding at all, we were just introducing ourselves. I’m from San Diego. We live in a nice house by the beach. Are you from California too, and by the way Tristan, why do you ask?”
