For the most part, Adam was thrilled to be leaving Sonora. He'd never fit in and he assumed most people hated him. Plus, there were certain people he just plain never wanted to see again as long as he lived.
Not that Adam thought college would be any better. People like him just weren't liked, for the most part. It didn't matter that he had Kaylie and Marshall there. In fact, that was the problem. If he hung around them too much, people wouldn't like him. Adam had to show that he didn't need to always be around them. Kaylie understood, and she was busy with Ian anyway.
On the other hand, he had his doubts that Marshall did.(In fact, Adam was a bit worried about his cousin's capacity to understand much of anything) Marshall already seemed to think he and Adam were going to hang out and Adam didn't want to hurt his feelings. It wasn't that he didn't like Marshall-though the drinking was a bit exasperating-it was just that Adam didn't want others to think he was needy or clingy or a baby like they did at Sonora. He did not want to be ostracized again.
There was still one person here that mattered very much to Adam though and that was Talitha. The wagons would be here later and Adam absolutely couldn't leave without saying goodbye to her. The fact that most people didn't like him and she did anyway made her all the more special. Just that quality about her, that she gave chances to people that others didn't was attractive to Adam and he was sad to be leaving her.
Scanning the common room for the last time-once Adam graduated, he was never setting foot in Sonora again, unless he was under the Imperius Curse-he spotted his girlfriend. Adam walked up to her and gave her a hug. "I'll miss you." He said. "But I'll write, all the time." Adam wanted to.
