From her seat in the commons, Anabel eyed the staircase wearily, trying to determine whether or not one (or potentially more) of her roommates was upstairs. It had been some time since she had seen Laurie or, and here she rolled her eyes, Renaye or Alexis. She had been biding her time for nearly an hour, her bag situated at her feet, before she finally moved to her feet, grabbed her bag and moved to the staircase.
Her feet slowly ascended the staircase until she reached the landing to her room, her hand pausing on the doorknob for a moment before she turned it slowly and pushed it open. She stood on the threshold of the door for only a moment before she sighed with relief. It was empty. Thank Merlin.
In a flash, she had skipped into the room, shut the door quickly behind her, thrown her bag at the foot of the bed and jumped onto the bed. She remained still on the bed, staring at the ceiling, a large grin fixed on her face.
The peace and quiet was glorious. She sighed once again, shifting on her bed as she tried to become more comfortable. Her audition had gone well, if she did say so herself. Her hands rose flitting back and forth as she hummed quietly to herself. Her mind drifted away from classes, horrid roommates, that stupid Quidditch match and plans to destroy Flatt.
Closing her eyes, she failed to notice when someone else entered the room until she practically jumped out of her skin when she heard them drop something nearby. Sitting up straight, she practically choked on her tongue before her face fell back into its normally superior facade.
"Hey," she stated after a moment of silence. So much for peace and quiet.

Cecily was in possession of some good news. It was heard through the grapevine, but that was good enough for her, and she wanted to share her good news. She would particularly love to share it with Holly or Chelsea, but it had been a long day and she didn't especially want to go traipsing around the school in search of the girls. Instead she hoped to find Anabel, or Amelia at the very least, in the Crotalus commons.
Not spying anyone of particular interest in the commons main, cecily headed up to her own room and slipped in through the door. Anabel was there; excellent. A smile spread across Cecily's face as she dropped her bag a little more heavily than usual to get Anabel's attention.
"I have some good news," she said, sitting on her own bed and facing her friend. Cecily wasted no time in sharing what she knew. "You know that Flatt's relative of some sort has been taking the class for a sort while? Daddy thinks that the Cabinet can be persuaded to ensure Henry Flatt stays on as the permament teacher while grumpy, bigoted Flatt is relegated to long-term suspension following harrassment of pupils!" Cecily's eyes were gleaming as she finished. She didn't know how much of this was strictly true, and it was all delivered in gossip format, nor how likely it was that they would never have to be taught by that cretin again, but the chance was there and that was enough to keep her cheerful.
(OOC: Seeing as we're already in a thread together I was going to let someone else reply but I waited long enough...*grins*)

OOC: Sorry for the delay. Was out of town for the weekend and then had to pull two long days at work but I'm off today and yep. Here it goes. BIC:
As her eyes landed on the intruder, Anabel sighed with relief. "Oh thank Merlin it's you," she said with a smile. She had been so afraid that she would be faced with Renaye or Laurie and have another one of those terribly awkward conversations where each person tries to put up a friendly front.
As Cecily moved to her bed, Anabel shifted into a more comfortable position. Leaning her chin on her palm, Anabel listened intently to Cecily's exciting news regarding Flatt. "Really?" Anabel exclaimed. "No more Flatt? Or well, no more evil Flatt, that is. Are you sure?"
A life without Flatt was the first step to getting what the Ladies wanted. Of course, gossip was gossip was gossip was gossip and nothing would ever change that fact. But Cecily had mentioned her Dad and the Cabinet and it seemed to only create positive thoughts. If they got rid of Flatt then it seemed that Fox could be the next to follow. Without a pro-feminist Quidditch Coach, perhaps people like Alexis would be forbidden from playing. Oh the joy!
Was she sure? Not really, no. "I'm not sure sure," Cecily said, making herself comfortable on her own bed, next to Anabel's. "Nobody ever really tells me anything," she complained a little for good measure, "but that's what I've heard. I've been telling Daddy for ages that he's useless as a teacher, not to mention a terrible influence on the students and so mean to poor Holly."
Cecily's whining and complaining did tend to get her her own way, in the end. It was a shame they'd had to suffer the tyrany of Flatt for almost two years, but if they were coming to an end then Cecily could only be happy. The new, younger Flatt was a bit spineless, but that was not a problem in Cecily's books; in fact, all professors should aim to be a little more spineless if they could help it. That way she was likely to get her way more often.
"Besides, we might be learning something of use from now on, rather than pointless arguments about Muggleborns," she rolled her eyes. Not that Cecily genuinely cared what they learned in school - it would all be useless in the long run - but anything that strengthened her argument against Flatt was a bonus.
"Anyway, that's quite enough about that idiot," she decided firmly. Then she smiled properly at her friend. "How are you today? Do you have anything exciting planned for the summer?"
Anabel nodded as Cecily replied. She hadn't expected Cecily to have been one hundred percent sure but it was nice to hear that an adult might have heard that Professor Flatt might finally meet his end.
Her head continued to bob up and down as she continued to agree with Cecily. "I know," Anabel stated. "Every single class discussion seems to always been about how we have wronged the Muggles or how we wizards have breeched some sort of pact and injured the Muggles in some nameless way. It's so boring. Did nothing else important happen here? I mean, if anything we could learn about European History of Magic."
Shrugging, Anabel mentally tossed aside the topic as Cecily asked her about her summer plans. A smile lit up her face as she began to respond, "I'm doing good. I'm so glad the room is empty for once. I'm so glad it's you who came in because I don't know if I could have taken any more about those stupid Quidditch matches." Anabel rolled her eyes in a knowing manner. "As for my summer plans..." At this she trailed off in thought. "...I know I'm going to my aunt and uncle's for a week to spend some time with my cousins and I think I'm getting to go to the beach with my cousin Leslie and her husband for a while; they usually spend most of the summer there." Her brow pinched for a moment as she tried to remember if her parents had said anything about their travel plans, "We might have to go to Europe again for a few weeks but I don't think it's going to be as long as last summer." She shrugged again. "Not really positive as of yet. What about you? What are you going to do?"
She was just about to let Cecily respond when she gasped. "Oh my goodness, I just remembered something I had to tell you. You will not believe who I saw Holly talking to in the Cascade the other day!"
Ug, Quidditch. Between History of Magic and their roommates, Cecily wasn't completely sure how she and Anabel had managed to stay so sane. "Yes," Cecily agreed heavily, "it is nice to discover there are occasionally some people in this room worth spending time with." She smiled at Anabel, knowing that their friendship was probably the only thing that gave either of them comfort sometimes.
Anabel's summer sounded quite pleasant and relaxing. Cecily hoped her own summer would play out with similar delights. She was just going to tell Anabel that her parents were taking her and Amelia to lie on the beach in the Mediterraean, when her friend excitedly began talking again. "Oh my goodness, I just remembered something I had to tell you. You will not believe who I saw Holly talking to in the Cascade the other day!" Anabel said.
"Oh no, who?" Cecily said, delighted, as always, to have any sort of gossip.
