The morning before midterm officially began, on the noticeboard of each and every house, there appeared a formal notice with a neat collection of forms attached to the bottom. The form itself said in large letters 'School Fair'.
Under the title there was more information.
Do you want to have a stall at the school fair? There are 12 stall openings for student efforts - at least three students must be associated with the stall, and no student can be associated with the running of more than one stall. Application forms are attached to the bottom of this notice, and must be filled in and returned to your Head of House by no later than the first week back after midterm.
Successful applicants will be notified within the following week, so as preparations that may be needed before the Fair itself (which, for new students and those who need reminding, is at the end of the school year) will have plenty of time to be completed. Staff decisions about which stalls will go ahead and be run are final and any unauthorised stalls will result in severe punishment.
The Fair is also a chance to win points for the house points competition. The stall voted most popular on the day by attendance will win twenty house points. Attendance will be measured by token earnings on the day. PLEASE NOTE: Any stall that is not in some way offering items or services in exchange for the Fair tokens will NOT be eligible for this prize.
Underneath the notice, the application forms were waiting for interested Students to claim them.
Renaye didn't understand why Crotali didn't generally get along with the Pecaris. The ones Renaye had met were all very nice. Meeting Elly Eriksson seemed to reinforce her opinion. The cheerful red-headed girl had approached her with a small request to help her out with the fair. Renaye agreed and changed her direction (she wasn't necessarily walking anywhere) to the Crotalus Common Room. As she entered the commons, Renaye made her way to the notice board, her eyes skimming over the parchment she was about to tack up. It read:
CALLING ALL BRITS
Elly Eriksson is planning a heritage stall for the fair, with traditional food, music, dress and games from the British Isles! So if you're from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or Eire, join in and help out!
A meeting will be held the first day back after midterm for anyone interested in running the stall with me. First years are especially welcome. See the redhead Pecari, Elly Eriksson, for more details.
Renaye turned back towards her dorm, hoping to catch up with Laurie, maybe set up a visit over midterm. Laurie lived in Florida. It was her responsibility as her friend to introduce her to a Michigan snowstorm. As she entered the dorm room and crashed on her bed, Renaye found herself having the weird desire to develop a British accent...
