Chrissy walked into the common room chuckling to herself. She had just left Tally, who had gotten herself lost again and Chrissy had to help her. That girl would lose her head if it wasn't bolted on. Chrissy thought with a smile.
Her day had been packed full with interesting people and wicked classes. She was actually looking forward to classes tomorrow.
She looked around the common room for Jenna, but didn't find her. Instead she spotted three pure-bloods much like herself in a corner of the room. She frowned as she watched them. Arixios she had met that morning. She didn't really remember him from the pure-blood parties, but then, she hardly ever paid much attention to anything during those. She recognized T.J. immediately, though she wasn't sure he would recognize her in return. Across from him sat Danielle. T.J. and Danielle's families were the top of the top of pureblood families. Chrissy's families was close to the top of the list as well, but they never cared much for it.
Her Grandparents would have wanted her to walk over there and converse with them, but she knew she never would. She didn't care about blood, she knew the O'Rileys' did, she wasn't sure about the other two. Besides, who was to say they would remember a girl like her. Short curly blonde hair, brown-eyes, with a too developed chest for an eleven year old, Chrissy had remained isolated at the parties, if she went at all. She doubted they would remember her.
She checked once more to see if Jenna was in the room, before heading to a table at the opposite side of the common room to write a letter to her parents.\n\n
cleaning, cleaning, just keep cleaning...
by Scurry
Scurry was being inconspicuous. Having swept out the fireplace and then replaced the firewood and restarted the fire, he had begun gathering up all the loose papers that were scattered around the room. Papers, Scurry remembered having been told, were not good: they made 'A Mess' and were 'Untidy'.
He found wrappers from muggle and wizarding sweets, some scrunched up papers covered in much scrawled handwriting - Scurry looked at these with a shortlived curiousity, wondering what the young master or mistress had been doing, but never quite understanding (probably die to his inability to read) - another piece that looked like it had been ripped from a book, one that was stuck to a boy's shoe (it took quite an effort to get that one, because he was fairly sure that the boy hadn't noticed that he was trying to retrieve it and never got around to helpfully lifting his foot) and then Scurry spotted the prize.
There was a table. One of the young mistresses was there, but no matter. On the table there was paper - quite a pile of paper. Scurry went there directly and started to pick it up for disposal.\n\n

Chrissy, who had just finished writing a lengthy letter to her mother, had leaned back in her chair to stretched and closed her eyes.
It had been a somewhat long day and she wasn't totally looking forward to having a conversation with the others in the room. When she opened her eyes once again, she noticed an odd looking hand grabbing at her letter. Her brown eyes widened and her blonde curls seemed to electrify. With a loud scream of panic and confusion, Chrissy demanded to the elf,
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" She stood and looked down at the elf as she made a grab for her papers. She normally wasn't rude to other creatures, but these were her personal, private things and she couldn't let anyone but her mother see them. "THESE ARE MINE!"\n\n
His long fingers recoiled as though they had been hit (although not as though they had literally been hit - a good elf did not shy away from just punishment) and it was astounding that he didn't end up rolled up into a ball under the table whimpering to himself after the young Mistress yelled.
"Ooohhh," he wailed piteously, thus ruining any chance of being a proper - inconpicuous - elf. "Scurry is sorry, Mistress! Scurry is only tidying the papers - cleaning the mess. Scurry is not realising that you is needing them still - he is thinking that they are papers and a mess and should be cleared up."
He cowered at her feet and looked up, his entire bearing screaming 'woebegone', but had not started to punish himself yet - her volume was already accomplishing that for him, especially in his shorter, less protected ear.\n\n

Chrissy took a deep breath to control herself. She knew better than to yell out like that. She knew better than to lose complete control over her emotions. That was never proper for a young lady to do.
She watched the elf in front of her, feeling guilty for having yelled. Obviously the elf was only doing his job and hadn't realized that these were her things. She crouched down to his level so that she could look him straight in the face. With a polite smile, Chrissy apologized,
"Oh, I'm sorry for yelling. You just caught me off guard that's all. It's alright, though. No harm done." She paused and lightly patted the elf's back, hoping to show him that she wasn't upset with him. "What is your name? Mine's Chrissy."\n\n
Scurry is being very very sorry, young miss

Scurry looked at the young mistress, a little confused. Why was she petting him? He was an Elf, not a pet. And petting was only for good creatures, wasn't it? He had been bad. He knew he had been bad, because she had yelled, and the masters and mistresses only yelled when elves were bad.
"Miss Chrissy?" he said, trying the name out. This was a great honour, to have one of the mistresses actually introduce herself to him! "Miss Chrissy is not angry at bad Scurry anymore?" he asked, seeking confirmation.
He looked at her - a much easier task now that she was crouched down at his height. There was an odd smile on her face (much as some of the masters and mistresses used on occasion, although never before to him) but there was something else. Perhaps she was still angry, but didn't want him to realise it... for... some.... reason...
That didn't make sense.
Scurry managed to look even more confused - quite a feat - and his expression somehow made his face look more lopsided that usual. His ears twitched, and he looked nervously around. He should be working - a good elf got the job done - and here he was distracting good miss Chrissy from her no doubt very important work.
"I is sorry, Miss Chrissy," he apologised again, as he backed up awkwardly in an effort to not bump into her and cause even more offence. There were still things that needed tidying. He glanced around trying to spot something obviously in need of doing.
Slowly, looking around carefully to check if anyone was going to start screaming at him again, Scurry clicked a small broom and a dustpan into his hands, and started gathering up the dustbunnies that were clustering in the corners.\r\n\r\n\r\n
