After the screaming and excitement had worn off, Liliana and Joella went to the MARS room to create a sign. They still had a little bit of time before curfew and Liliana wanted to get the sign up that night so that in the morning it would be the first thing all the Pecaris saw. And Merlin she wanted the sign to be so obnoxious they had no choice but to see it and decide that they wanted to join the team. When she expressed this desire to Joella, the younger girl grinned in delight and suggested they add a lot of glitter and charm the header to flash or move.
The result was a wide banner that, in glaring, glittery gold letters, read:
We want YOU to support Pecari this year!
Underneath it, they had written in black ink so it was easy to read:
If you have a competitive spirit, like flying, or just want to be a part of a team sign up for Pecari Quidditch today! Open try-outs will be this Saturday at seven am, please write your name, year, and preferred position(s) below. Walk ons welcome, please find Captain Liliana Bannister or Assistant Captain Joella Curtis if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Go Percai, beat Aladren!
In addition to the glittery gold letters on top, Liliana suggested they draw some doodles of the various Quidditch balls and charm them so they flew around the page. So, a tiny golden snitch made loops around beginning of the “We want” and a set of Keeper’s hoops at the end of “this year!” had a miniature quaffle flying in and out of them while two bludgers flew haphazardly throughout the length of the sentence.
Below that they had put a sign-up paper where they had already written their names and positions:
Once the sign-up sheet and banner were pinned to the Pecari announcement boards, Joella stepped back and smiled at Liliana. “I think we make a pretty good team,” she remarked, pleased with their handiwork.
Liliana nodded and returned Joella’s smile. “Do you have time this week to meet and go over what we should have them do at try-outs?”

When Ben came down from his first night at Sonora, he couldn't have possibly missed the Quidditch sign-up sheet even if he hadn't gone to the bulletin board specifically to look for it. It certainly didn't take long to find. Letting out a little cheer that it was already available, Ben found a quill and added his name beneath the captain's and assistant captain's names.
Benjamin Pierce, 1st year,
He hesitated before adding his position, not quite sure what to put. He hadn't ever actually played Quidditch before. He'd watched it loads of times, and could recite the stats for every member of the Boston team, but his practical experience was limited to flying his broom and playing muggle team sports. There was some overlap, he supposed. He'd played baseball which would lend itself to Beater, and basketball which wouldn't be too far off Chaser, and of course soccer gave him some practice with Keeper. He wasn't quite sure what the muggle equivalent of Seeker was, but he'd probably played that, too.
That didn't narrow his choices down any.
Well, he supposed since the captain was Keeper, he could leave that one out. The assistant was a Chaser, but there was still room for two more Chasers on the team. Unfortunately, Professor Olivers hadn't mentioned which spots - if any - were open last night, and he hadn't thought to ask at the time. He wasn't going to wait to sign up to find that out either. For one thing, he'd already written his name. For another, that didn't show the appropriate level of enthusiasm.
His dad and uncle had both been Beaters, so he was inclined to pick that, but his aunt has been a Seeker, and Gramelia had been a Chaser. Though, that meant Keeper was the only position someone in his branch of the family hadn't played, so he kind of wanted to just to collect the whole set.
In the end, he took the easy route and decided he'd say he'd play anything. However, when he saw it written out, it looked more like a cop-out. And he was sure Dad be proud if he followed in the Derries footsteps. His quill wrote again and, in the end, his line finished off with:
Any position, but preferably Beater

Last year, playing Quidditch had been a super fun time! She was really glad that she had decided to give it a whack (pun intended--wait, was that a pun or just a bad joke?), so when she saw the sign-ups go up again this year, she was all over that sheet (that was a pun!) And though she was probably gonna miss having Captain Adam--or Captadam, as she liked to condense in her mind--she was pretty psyched to see the team this year was gonna be led with girl power. Liliana was cool, and Joella totally deserved to be Assistant Captain.
For a brief second, she wondered if that could ever be her. She had to get really good first, probably. Sammy liked being good at things, though, and she was a hard worker, so it was definitely a possibility. As long as she never gave up, anything was possible! That was what her moms told her, anyway, and she had it on pretty good authority that her moms knew basically everything. In nuclear households, the singular mom seemed to know everything, but Sammy had two, so that meant her moms knew, like, double everything!
She did notice that she wasn’t the first person, barring the leadership figures, to sign up; a firstie named Ben had beaten her to it. He wanted to be a Beater too. Adam was a Chaser, so that was what was really open, and she imagined Ben would probably get that, but just seeing someone else looking for her or Atlas’s spot filled her with determination.
Sammy Meeks, third year, I wanna hit stuff (AKA Beater), she wrote, grinning at her own cheekiness. This season was gonna rock!
