First year girls' dorm (tag Diana and Scarlett)
by Joella Curtis
On first hearing of the event, Joella had been filled with excitement. However, as the year progressed the Midsummer Ball had been pushed to the back of her mind. Having been so focussed on her Quidditch after the midterm break, the young Pecari had only been prompted to remember the ball when Virginia Bellrose brought it to her attention in the last dance club session.
Her original thought had been that she would be able to get a date by the time it came around but those plans had been short-lived. A brief conversation with her elder sister Rolene around Christmas had confirmed these doubts. Apparently it wasn't actually that common for first years to go as dates but more as friendship groups. Boys seemed to be a minority at Sonora and the few that Joella had found herself interacting with on more than one occasion didn't really seem like the sort to get caught up in the whole Midsummer Ball excitement.
And so the young Pecari had resolved several times to ask her roommates. Walking down to the ball alone wasn't something she really wanted to do. What happened once she got there wasn't the part she worried about. There were bound to be lots of other students like her who were just out to have a fun night with plenty of chatting and dancing.
Joella made sure to catch her roommates one morning before breakfast so she could make the proposition of going down to the ball together, provided they had not already made other arrangements. She dressed in her school robes and then spoke as she dragged a brush through the tangles in her dirty blonde hair. "So have either of you made plans for the ball?" she asked the question casually, opening the subject up and saving herself the embarrassment of jumping right in and suggesting something that just wasn't going to happen. Neither Diana nor Scarlett had mentioned such a thing to her but then again why should they? Joella herself never usually spoke of it and she didn't feel that they were particularly close and therefore sharing gossip was not an occurrence the eleven year old could picture ever happening.
