Clara sat on one of the big poofy chairs that rested in the common room downstairs from the dorms. She didn't see much of her roommate which wasn't unusual since Clara wasn't entirely sure who had been assigned the bed next to hers in the first place. She made a mental note to ask someone about that. As she tucked her legs up under her butt she pulled out a sheet of parchment from her bag and a quill pen. She had intended to spend the morning writing a letter to her father about her "adventures" so far here at Sonora. As she put the words in her head to paper she found herself suddenly very homesick, but shook it off. She liked her school so far and was determined not to bum herself out over not being home. She had already decided she would tell her dad everything which wasn't at all unusual for her. She always told him everything, even the unpleasant stuff.
Dear Dad, her letter began. Sonora so far is unreal. I've made a few friends already (sort-of) and am really excited about my classes although some of them worry me a little. You understand why. Remember the last time I wrote to you we had just finished our first potion in Potions class and I managed to complete it without blowing anything or anyone up. I even managed not to turn myself or my partner Angel any funky colors. Yay me! Angel is really cool, but also really quiet. Remember how I told you about his being really pale and stuff? Well, Andri told me that he's apparently an Albino and thats why he looks the way he does. Whatever makes him that way I would still like to call him my friend if he'll let me. Andri also says that he can draw really well and that he once drew a picture of her. Sounds pretty neat huh?
I think I've already told you about Cepheus and Thad. They were the two boys I helped blow bubbles for our first transfig class. I mananged to make fire inside my bubble a little bit. It was pretty cool. I would like for them to be friends too, but I get the feeling that they may not like me much...I don't know. I think they're still trying to figure out if I'm a "pure-blood" or not. To be honest neither of them had ever asked and I wasn't entirely sure what to tell them. I know that mom was something called a "squib", but I don't know what that would make me. Does that make me a "half-blood" like my cousins claim to be or what? Guess I'm more curious than anything else. You know me. Lets' see...I've already told you about my flying disasters during flying class so there's no need to revisit that issue. Although I think I might have mentioned Solomon in my last letter and how I was trying to help him with his broom even though I can't seem to owrk my own. Glutton for punishment I guess.
She chuckled at that last comment and continued writing. Lets see I also think I told you about Waverly and her Baking Club. We learned how to make chocolate chip cookies (my arch nemesis) and I was partenered up with a girl named Kitty. She is really cool. I like her a lot. I like Waverly too. She's really nice and she really seems happy to see me sometimes. She is friends with Brielle as well. She sat with me at the Quidditch games we've had soo far. We lost our game which kinda sucked. At least Arista's house won. I'm not soo sure I like Quidditch much. It seems soo violent. I know I hurt myself from time to time which I'm not trying to do on purpose, but these people are doing it to eachother on purpose. That scares me a little dad, I won't lie. It seems like it could be exciting, but I'm not soo sure about that yet.
I don't know yet if the letter has gone home, but we're having a concert on the 27th of July. Brielle and I have teamed up with Waverly to do a musical piece. I've got some really good ideas about how to set the stage up. I'm just hoping that everything goes well and I'm not my usual spastic self. I was hoping you would be able to make it. I would really like to see you there. Also we're doing a new charm for Charms class. I haven't tried it yet, but this should be interesting. Well, I'm heading off to bed soon dad, but I just wanted to let you know whats been going on. Wish me luck with this new charm. Lets hope I don't flub this one up as well. I miss you daddy. Love you always, Clara.
Clara blew on the ink for a moment to make sure that it had dried all the way before she carefully folded up the letter and placed it into its envelope. She had already addressed the envelope and sealed it. She reminded herself that she needed to take the letter to the owlery before class the next day. She carried the letter up to her room with her and carefully placed it on the table beside her bed next to her mother's picture. Before turning out the light she said goodnight to her mom. She turned off her light, laid her head on her pillow and went to sleep. In the morning after getting dressed, she rushed through breakfast and hurried to the owlery with the letter for her dad. once it was sent she made her way to her charms class feeling better about not being at home. Now to just find out what Charms had instore for her today. She could hardly wait.
