Quidditch Sign-Ups by Captain Jose Hernandez

The very first thing Jose did upon arrival at Sonora was find Professor McKindy to get the password into the Commons, and the very second thing he did was run to the Pecari Bulletin Board to put up the notice he'd spent several days working on that summer. This was the twenty-eighth draft. Every word was spelled right - he'd had more than one of his most literate relatives double check that - he'd had Saul made sure he hadn't left anything out, and he'd had some of the California Pierce's best artists teach him how to draw Snitches, goal posts, brooms, Quaffles, and Bludgers and then show him how to make them move about on the page.

It was, in Jose's very humble opinion, a work of art.

He might be the youngest Captain by several years but, by George, he was going to have the best dang Sign-up sheet and team in the school.

Hey, Pecari! Welcome to a new year of Quidditch! We've got some open spots this year, so everyone is encouraged to try out. Returning team members will get preference, but their spots are not guaranteed, so everyone has to try out. Date and time will be announced in a few days, so watch the board for further information. Starbuck had come back to the Commons, saw the sign up sheet for Quidditch, and grinned. She had thought about not returning to the team because of who was named Assistant Captain but she then deided that she loved Quidditch too much to let it bug her for too long. When she read the sign up sheet she frowned. Returning team members will get preference, but their spots are not guaranteed

Would some first year be able to knock her out of her spot because they were able to stop a few balls more then she? Ugg she disliked the idea of being replaced by someone younger but she would just have to deal with it for the time being. Taking out a quill she quickly wrote

Taking my time to write my name by Demelza Eagle

It totally slipped Demelza's ind that she actually had to sign up for Quidditch. She was pretty positive that she would get the same spot, but she still had to sign up! Demelza skipped down to the Pecari common room after she dumped her belongings on her bed (and Delilah, Stabuck, and Nina ought to be happy that she was kind enough to dump her mess on her bed), changed into her pj's, and put her long, chocolate brown hair in pig tails. She hummed happily to herself a random melody, and stopped abuptly when she saw the coolest notice ever.

She walked up to it and realized it was the Quidditch sign-up sheet. She grinned at Jose's work: He had really out done himself. She actually said out loud, "Oooooh!" when she first saw it. Heck, even if it wasn't Quidditch sign-ups she would sign up for it, because if the sign was that cool, the thing she signed up for must be that cool too!

Demelza snatched a quill that was laying on a random table (people were doing homework already?)and wrote her name on the sheet, in her very messy handwriting.

The sign-up sheet for Quidditch had been the first thing that Tristan stalked out once the Head of House guy (whatever his name had been, since Tristan suffered from name-recall issues) gave the first years a tour. He felt he’d found the Holy Grail once the sheet caught his eye. It was actually quite attention-getting, which only helped to make spotting it that much easier on him.

He took out a quill he’d been carrying around with him since he started his sign-up sheet search and put it to the fresh line below a girl named Starbuck’s sign-up. This was it – all the bragging he’d done, all the practice and obsessing since he first felt a broom, it was all coming together. This year he’d show everyone just how talented Tristan Volkmann was.

He didn’t hesitate a moment to write:

Tristan Volkmann… 1…. Chaser

He took a step back and admired his loopy scrawl. He couldn’t wait until try-outs now he was officially up for a position. But until then, he’d just have to stick with practicing on the pitch and making some of his moves really stand out. But first, he had to find out where that darned professor had said the pitch was…

When Caspia got up that morning, she didn't bother changing out of her pajamas or tending to her hair. Her pajamas were black pants, which were decorated with red stripes (very comfy) and a large blue shirt that swallowed her, so no worries there. And her hair was messy anyway, so she didn't have to worry too much about it. Besides, she wanted to make sure she signed the Quidditch sign up sheet first. It was a personal goal of hers, she often made stupid little goals to complete at the end of the day.

In any case, when she ran down the stairs into the commons, she reached the bulletin board and was disappointed to find that she was indeed not the first person to sign. Her shoulders slumped a little, her lips turning from a grin to a frown, but her saddened state didn't last for long. She shrugged. Whatever, it's not like she could complete every little goal. And she didn't get too upset about them either. With a grin, she signed her name In bold letters. She liked to make an impression. Whether it was good or bad didn't matter to her, so long as it was made.

Caspia grinned. She really did hope to get the position. Well, she had a lot of practicing to do. Her stepmother had been rather determined to get her away from quidditch, and do something 'proper' for a change. Cassy snorted. The snob of a woman was an idiot, everyone loved quidditch, pureblood or not. She just wanted her to fit in with her devious stepsisters. Caspia shuddered at the thought of tea and frilly dresses. No thank you.

Well, she thought amused, noticing the odd looks she was getting from the others, she should probably change before going to the pitch. She couldn't very well practice in her pajamas! Well, she could, but she loved them too much get them all muddy. Leisurely Cassy returned to the girls dorms, a chipper smile on her face.

Dorian Talsky had been eyeing the Quidditch Sign up sheet for some time. Every day he passed it at least a dozen times, and every time the Pecari lost his nerve. It wasn’t that he didn’t think he wouldn’t be a good player he just didn’t want to hear what Dmitry would say. His older, half-brother Dmitry was the bane of his existence. Dmitry was always picking on him about everything and he was the king of the Quidditch Pitch, at least in his mind. Finally Dorian decided that he wasn’t going to hold back just because what Dmitry would say. He was going to join the team and he wouldn’t have to tell anyone until he had made the team and if he made then he would tell everyone.

He walked up to the Quidditch Sign Up sheet quill in one hand and inkwell in another. Glad that no one was around the first year quickly signed his name.

Dorian Talsky – first year – seeker.

He smiled at it and quickly went back to his books before he regretted signing his name.

Neal Padrig, 1, It’ll be a surprise to the both of us

Neal stepped back and checked over the list, thoroughly surprised that more people weren’t already signed up for the try-outs. He anticipated hoards of names to be hogging up all the poster space by the time he remembered to jot his own name down. Did the Pecari team suck or something and no one wanted to be a part of it? Regardless, he was still signed up, so he’d give it his all. Or as much of his all as he could manage.

Despite how good he was at sports and how he appreciated watching Quidditch very much, Neal couldn’t really picture himself on the field. His mind was always wandering; focusing for long stretches of time on one game could very well be the death of him. He was more into art and the like anyways, picking to solve riddles and sketch over playing tag with the other muggles in his old school.

Too late to strike his name off now, he was in it for the long haul. If anything maybe this sport could teach him some much-needed patience and focus methods. Merlin only knew how badly he needed to acquire those sometime in his life.
