It was a tradition now. A sacred duty, even. So it was that for the first day of classes for the first years, Saul was down in the common room early. "First Years!" he called out as he had every year since his second. Only now, he was sixteen and wearing a Prefect's badge, so it almost looked official instead of just something that Saul did for fun. "Gather here for the guided tour to your first class. First Years! Guided Tour to the Charms class begins here!"
When he felt he had a decent turn out (he wasn't sure of the exact count of new Pecaris, but if he didn't start soon, they'd be late), Saul began, "I'm Saul Pierce, the sixth year Prefect for Pecari. If you need anything, I'm here to help and I'm a lot less scary than Professor O'Leary. Okay, here, everyone take one," Saul passed around a stack of maps. "These show you where all the classroom are." And unlike last year, he'd checked, and these actually had the rooms and hallways where they actually were instead of where Saul vaguely recalled they might be. That had been a little embarrassing.
"I'll show you the path through the Gardens back to the main building now, and then to the Charms room. If you have trouble after that, just ask an older student or a painting. Most of them are pretty helpful, but painting can't keep secrets, so . . ." Saul trailed off to imply that any observed foolishness would soon be known to every painting in the school, "yeah. But first, does anyone have any questions or anything?"
Once nobody else had any more question, Saul led them out of the common room, reminding them all of the current password, said hi to the suit of armor that guarded their entrance, and started leading the way back to the school. As he did, he told them a story about the suit of armor's origins (how it had belonged to a Crusader that had been an ancestor to one of Sonora's founders and how his widow had animated the armor after he died so it could keep her company) which he made up on the spot and which had no historical truth to it at all. Though in all honesty, Saul had no idea where the suit of armor came from so it was possible he was giving accurate information by happenstance if not by intent.
Once they entered the school, he pointed out which way they would go if they wanted to reach other important places in the school - like the Cascade Hall, the Library, or the Hospital Wing. Finally, they reached the Charms classroom about one minute before it was due to start (giving him less than that to get to his own first class, but he accepted tardiness as an acceptable cost for being the Guide). "Here you are, your Charms class. Professor Taylor is strict, but she knows her stuff. It's a good class, and widely regarded as one of the best. Have fun and good luck."
OOC: If you have questions, feel free to post them, and we'll pretend through fuzzy time that they got answered in between when I asked for questions and when I lead you out. Just wanted to get this up so anyone that wants to get guided to their charms class knows what happened.
