It was so hot the most obvious place to go was the MARS water room. At least there he'd get some privacy when he went swimming. Thank Merlin there was some kind of water around. Cepheus enjoyed wearing shorts under his robes rather than those awful trousers. They were stifling. Summer was finally arriving, and he wished to be in England where he knew what the heat was like. He hated this unearthly dry heat. It felt, well, like a desert.
Ceph had received a letter from his father a week ago telling him no uncertain terms not to go to the fair. There was a reminder that fairs were filthy and were muggle inventions: exactly the sort of thing he was supposed to avoid here.
Annoyed but unable to do anything, Ceph entered the room. His hair was getting awfully long now too. If he raised a tuft of thick blonde hair with his fingers, it was practically an inch and a half high. Cepheus knew his mum would take him to the barber's to get it cut. Another reason to go home.
Anyhow, he wasn't here to think about all that. If his peers got to go to a fair, he would spend his last days before summer at Sonora in comfort, relaxing.
He removed his robes, shirt, his undershirt, and stepped out of his shorts. Instead of drawers, he had worn his swimming trunks underneath. His skin was tanner than usual, and he blamed the Arizona sun and classes held outside. If he'd been in England, he would have been inside for most of winter.
Cepheus, who didn't know how to dive, jumped into the lake and poked his head out of the water, proceeding to swim around like a dog. There was a rock protruding out of the bottom, and he stood on it to catch his breath when he had gone at least a foot in. He wished his friends were here: Gareth, Alicia, Thad, Shiloh, even Teresa, but he assumed that they were all at the fair. Thinking back over the year, he had met some respectable peers and he actually liked them. He thought about the friends his mates back at home were making and felt it even. He hoped meeting them again would be the same.
He swam around a bit more and turned immediately at the sound of someone entering. He was slightly surprised at being disturbed, though not terribly surprised. This was, after all, a school, and it was a hot day.
"Hullo there," he called, wanting to make sure they knew he was present. If he'd kept his mouth shut, maybe he could have pretended to be a sea monster or something.
