After signing up for another year on the Quidditch team, Saul went to the middle of the Common Room and stood on a sturdy looking coffee table. It wasn't so much that he wasn't taller than the first years (Saul was slightly taller than average for a fifteen year old boy, so that wasn't really a concern) but to draw attention. People, after all, especially ones wearing a Prefect Badge (Saul was still trying to get over that), didn't often stand on tables during the normal course of a day.

"Could I have first years come to me, please?" Then, realizing he might look a little too official with the badge, he added, "This is optional, so you don't have to come, but I'm directing a tour to the Cascade Hall for breakfast. Tour Group to the Cascade Hall, gather here please. Maps to your classes will be provided as well. First Years, optional tour to the Cascade Hall, gather around me."

His backpack, which might have originally been his cousin Neil's but it was the one he'd grabbed when packing, had about ten copies (all slightly different since he'd done them each separately by hand and he frequently changed his mind about the best way to get places and sometimes forgot to include some of his less travelled corridors) of school maps in it. It was the first time he'd done this, but he figured, with this being his first year as a Prefect, he ought to do something special for his Tour.

Mark was pacing through the common room with a basketball in hand practicing some dribble techniques. He wasn’t paying attention to much besides the Quidditch sign-ups. ‘Man I wish I could do it this year.’ Mark thought. Mark wanted to play sports so bad and the idea of a wizarding sport was so tempting, but first years couldn’t do it. Mark just sighed and went on with dribbling.

Mark thought of several things that he might do next year when it came to quidditch. He was hoping to be a chaser or beater, but seeker would be nice as well. Mark always had great eyesight. ‘Oh well,’ Mark thought, ‘I’ll be the best next year.’

As he was about to finish his exercise he heard Aul call out about a tour, and Mark thought this was an opportunity not to get lost and to talk to Aul more about quidditch and what he could do since he was not able to be on the team this year. Mark picked up his basketball and walked over to Aul. “Hey I’ll take the tour,” Mark said brightly and continued, “And I would also like to know that even though I can’t try out yet I would like to watch the tryouts and maybe a couple practices of you guys playing quidditch. I need to know everything I can so I can play next year. If it would be possible of course.”

Mark couldn’t get quidditch out of his head ever since Aul told him what it was. Mark wanted to play so bad, but he knew he needed to learn how to fly first, And he couldn’t wait for that either.\n

Kyler looked around at the sound of a voice nearby, calling them for a tour. Tour? Sounded kind of boring... Nevertheless, he looked for the speaker and saw Saul standing there. Kyler's interest immediately jumped. Cool! He had been thinking it would be some sort of Professor led tour to the classrooms with boring lectures about "No running in the halls, no chewing gum, be to class on time... Blah blah blah..." Kyler would end up tuning it out anyway. He looked over towards the group and saw Ark, his roommate, standing with Saul. Kyler bounded over to stand next to the kid, grinning over at him.

"What's up, Saul?" He said as he joined the group. "Are you the official tourguide or something?" He asked with a grin, that way it might imply he was joking, but it could also imply... well, just a smile.

Kyler turned to Ark. "Dude, I hope our Professors aren't Rule Freaks... We're in a magic school! How could we not be expected to take advantage of this? If I was a professor, I would be disappointed in my students for not causing a little trouble."

Saul Pierce

Saul grinned as he saw that he'd at least attracted the two first years he'd eaten at the feast with, Kyler and Ark. Ark arrived first with a basketball in hand (Saul had never played real basketball himself, but he'd seen a few games on TV, and had thrown a ball at a basket a time or two, so he could recognize the orange ball on sight as easily as he could a Quaffle). Saul made a mental note to himself to remember to ask Simon about a court for the kids.

When Ark brought up Quidditch, Saul nodded along with him and agreed, "Yeah, I'm sure the Cravens wouldn't mind you coming to practices. They even encouraged it on the sign-up sheet," Saul waved back toward the notice on the bulletin board that he'd just signed. "They'll probably even let you join in." Saul grinned conspiratorially, "The Cravens aren't exactly known for following rules."

By the time Saul had finished imparting these jewels of wisdom, Kyler had joined them, and Saul turned his grin on the new as he asked the question nearest to Saul's heart on this first day of classes. Sounding very pleased and proud of himself, Saul told them both, "I have been guiding first years down from the common room since my second year." Then he confided in a lower tone, as if his next words were a secret, "I think that's why they made me prefect. Pepper, in Teppenpaw, does the same thing, and she got made prefect, too. So that's what you do if you want to be prefect: Give tours."

Then he straighted up again, standing much taller than the two eleven year olds because he had not only his natural advantage of being four years older than them, but he was still standing on the table. "First years!" he called again, as a few more of the new kids trickled into the room. "The guided tour will be leaving for the Cascade Hall in five minutes. Please gather here!"

Turning back to the two first years he did have, he addressed Kyler's second topic. "Some teachers let you get away with more than others. Brett got an extra assignment for passing notes in History of Magic. Professor Taylor in Charms makes you sign this sheet of rules at the beginning of the first class. Professor Connell's pretty good as long as you don't blow anything up. Professor K in Comec - that's Care of Magical Creatures, but everyone here," by which Saul actually meant himself and Jae, and anyone else who'd picked it up from them, "just calls it Comec, like the initials. Anyway, Professor K is really awesome, though I heard she exploded at one class when too many of them weren't doing the work."

"And then there's Professor O'Leary in Dayda. That's Defense against the Dark Arts, but we just call it by the initials again, so Dayda - because that doesn't sound as babyish as Da-Da." Again, to Saul's knowledge, he'd only convinced Jae this was the proper pronunciation of the class name, but that didn't stop him from stating this as universal fact. "Professor O'Leary seems kind of scary at first - and he kinda is scary," that could just be because Saul was maybe dating his daughter though, "but he's not really a vampire, I swear."
